00:00Alright guys, I got another request, the S23 Ultra versus the S20 FE, and honestly guys,
00:07I don't really think you need to upgrade your S20 FE right now.
00:12It could be a pretty good upgrade, maybe a year or two from now, but if you do decide
00:17to go ahead and upgrade, let's go over the pros and cons, because the S20 FE, considering
00:22the price it is right now, $200 to $150, you can find it for, it's still an extremely good
00:29phone.
00:30So let's go ahead and dive into it.
00:32So let's start off with the build quality.
00:34Now this is a pretty nice upgrade here.
00:37The build quality is just much better on the S23 Ultra.
00:41It's a full glass and metal device.
00:43The S20 FE is a plastic back and then has metal rails, so it doesn't feel super cheap,
00:49but you can definitely feel the difference from a full glass and metal phone.
00:54So it does feel a little bit more premium.
00:58Now the S20 FE is definitely way more comfortable to hold as well.
01:02The S23 Ultra has these really sharp boxy edges, the S20 does not.
01:08And then you just have an updated design, of course, that looks a little bit more modern.
01:13Now both of these phones actually have IP68 dust and water resistant, so that is very
01:18nice.
01:19And what's pretty cool about the hardware with the S20 FE is that you actually do have
01:24SD card support, which the S23 Ultra does not.
01:28So to me that's going to be a major downgrade for some people, not having that expandable
01:33storage.
01:34So it is something to definitely think about.
01:36The only thing you could possibly do is, you know, you would have to pay more to get a
01:40bigger storage.
01:41Like this is 512 gigabytes, but you're going to have to pay extra because the base on the
01:45S23 Ultra is like, I believe it's 128 still.
01:49Now you are getting an S Pen now.
01:52So it depends on if you find the S Pen useful.
01:56Like I use it for like grocery lists.
01:59If you're a digital artist, it's extremely accurate.
02:01I've seen people on YouTube do amazing artwork with this phone, so that's definitely something
02:07to consider if you find yourself using it.
02:09Or if you really just want to use it as just a normal, you know, stylus to just navigate
02:15with.
02:16And Samsung has a ton of software that I think you would like, but it really depends.
02:20Some people who buy this phone don't use the S Pen at all, so I think it's pretty handy
02:25for the most part.
02:26Especially if you're a content creator, you take the S Pen out, you can be at a distance,
02:31click record with the button right here, or you know, record a video or something.
02:35So I think it is useful.
02:36All right, so let's talk about the display.
02:39So the S20 does have the Super AMOLED 120Hz HDR10+.
02:44It's 6.5 inches, so it's a little bit smaller.
02:47And then you also have a 1080p resolution, 407 for the PPI.
02:51The S23 does have the Dynamic AMOLED display, it's 120Hz HDR10+, it gets a max brightness
02:57of 1750 nits, 6.8 inches, and it's 1440p 500 for the PPI.
03:05So you can see here, basically, you can see slimmer bezels on the S23 Ultra, it's pretty
03:10apparent there.
03:11They both have the same punch hole.
03:14To me, color-wise, they look almost exactly the same, honestly.
03:17And they're both 120Hz as well, too.
03:19So I think the main upgrade here is the slightly brighter display outdoors, in direct sunlight.
03:27But other than that, both displays look awesome.
03:30Like I said, even though the S23 is 1440p, unless you're going to be looking at a lot
03:35of 1440p content, it's not going to really make too much of a big deal.
03:39And just looking at them straight on, they just both look pretty much identical, very
03:44sharp.
03:45Now, if you do come up close, the S23 does look a little bit sharper, but you would have
03:52to really come up close.
03:55But other than that, guys, the displays on both these phones are still great.
03:59So let's talk about the specs a little bit more here.
04:01So S20 FE, Android 13, Snapdragon 865 chip on here, and then the base is 128 gigs.
04:09Internal storage, 6 gigs of RAM.
04:11The S23 also has the Snapdragon 8Gen 2 processor, and then we also have the 512 gigabyte version
04:20here and 12 gigs of RAM.
04:22All right, so basically, you don't really need to upgrade for speed, in my opinion,
04:26especially for the average person.
04:28It would be pretty useless.
04:30The S20 FE is extremely fast, still, in 2023.
04:35So you can see it's pretty much on par with the S23.
04:39It's just very fast phone.
04:41So if you're a gamer, a casual gamer or something like that, I really wouldn't upgrade, honestly.
04:48It would have to be somebody who is actually a hardcore gamer to get the most out of the
04:52GPU here.
04:54Otherwise, I just don't see it.
04:56Yeah, it'll load up applications slightly faster.
05:01Maybe like, let's open PUBG, like PUBG, it might open this up a little bit quicker.
05:09But as far as like just playing games, the S20 FE does an amazing job.
05:14I have a full gaming test if you guys want to check that out.
05:17But yeah, I'm just, as far as, you know, you guys got to remember, these old flagship phones
05:22are meant to last a very long time.
05:24So that's basically what you're seeing here is that it still can keep up.
05:28You can see S23 Ultra got in there extremely quick.
05:32All right, so when we're in PUBG, you can see the S20 FE is still able to do a fantastic
05:38job playing at HDR extreme 60 frames and it's a very smooth experience.
05:44That's why I said you don't really need to upgrade this phone if you're looking for just
05:48a good gaming experience because it's still fairly fast and also it's still pretty efficient
05:54as far as not getting hot.
05:56I think the A65 is extremely efficient chip and you can see, you know, basically same
06:00settings on the S23, very fast, able to keep 60 frames, super cool device.
06:08The only thing I would say here as far as the gaming experience goes, like if you play
06:12a lot of games, the battery life is definitely much better on the S23.
06:17But other than that, you know, I just don't see the reason to upgrade there.
06:22Let's check out these speakers, max volume.
06:52So, overall, you do have a louder and more clear sound on the S23 and the S20 does sound
07:09pretty good but you can definitely tell the difference there.
07:13Just overall, improved speaker and much louder.
07:17Also, both these phones have, of course, NFC and they both have wireless charging as well
07:23too and reverse wireless charging.
07:26That's why I said they have a lot of the same features still.
07:29The fingerprint scanners on both of these are very fast, so no issue there.
07:34You can also use face unlock on both of these as well too, so no big difference there.
07:39Alright, so this is probably one of the bigger upgrades here that I think is a deciding factor
07:44and it really comes down to the steels too as well.
07:48So, the S20 FE has a 12 megapixel standard and it also has a 8 megapixel telephoto lens
07:55that does 3x optical zoom and it does all the way up to 30x digital.
08:00And then you also have a 12 megapixel ultrawide.
08:03It shoots in 4K60 and then the 32 megapixel selfie cam that shoots in 4K60 as well.
08:10It's a pretty big upgrade here, so I would say if you take a lot of pictures,
08:14but only if you take a lot of pictures, I would say it's kind of worth the upgrade,
08:18especially if you like the zooming capabilities of the S23 Ultra.
08:23The S23 has just a more beefier camera.
08:26It's 200 megapixels, so if you take pictures, you crop into it, you just see more detail.
08:3110 megapixel periscope telephoto does 10x and then you also have another 10 megapixel
08:37telephoto lens on here as well and that does 3x optical, 12 megapixel ultrawide.
08:43There's a macro mode.
08:44It shoots in 8K30 and then you also have a 12 megapixel selfie cam that also shoots in 4K60.
08:51So, check out the side-by-side steels.
08:53Let me know if you guys see an upgrade, you know, upgrade worthy as far as the photos go.
09:07So,
09:37here's the S23, 0.6, 3x,
10:01and 10x, super sharp.
10:15S20 FE, 0.5, 3x,
10:31and 10x.
10:33All right, so again, here's the biggest upgrade in my opinion.
10:38The S23 Ultra has some of the best battery life, you know, right now.
10:42It's just amazing battery life.
10:45So, this phone has a 5,000 milliamp battery, 45 watt fast charging can easily, easily get you
10:53two days of battery life for a light user.
10:55You will notice the battery difference pretty much instantly when you get this phone.
11:00It's just, it's a lot better than last year for sure.
11:05And then the S20 FE, while it doesn't have bad battery, it's got a 4,500 milliamp battery,
11:10slightly slower charging at 25 watts.
11:13Battery life is still pretty good.
11:15You can average around six hours of screen at one time out of this phone.
11:19So, not bad at all, but if you're looking for a significant, a battery is a top priority,
11:24this is a pretty, a pretty big upgrade this year.
11:28They really nailed the battery life.
11:29So, overall, I think that it's a good upgrade.
11:33You get more cameras, right, beefier specs, better battery life, better design,
11:39but is it a necessary upgrade?
11:40I don't think so because the S20 FE as we saw,
11:43it just performed really well in pretty much all these categories, right?
11:48Yeah, so what do you guys think?
11:49Be sure to let me know and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
