00:00Long live the king.
00:17Welcome to MsMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the top 20 terrifying deaths
00:22in Disney movies.
00:44For this list we'll be looking at the most horrifying deaths from Disney and Pixar movies
00:49that freaked children out and left parents asking, what was this rated again?
00:54As for this video, we're rating it S for spoilers and emotional scarring.
00:59Which Disney death terrified you the most?
01:01Let us know in the comments.
01:04Number 20.
01:05The Horned King – The Black Cauldron
01:08Speaking of ratings, The Black Cauldron marked the first animated Disney film to venture
01:12into PG territory.
01:14That might not sound like a big deal now, but since this dark fantasy came out in the
01:1980s, a PG rating could get away with some pretty graphic imagery.
01:23While the film was apparently toned down to avoid an even more adult-oriented rating,
01:27the Horned King's death is still pure nightmare fuel.
01:31With his skeletal body and terrifying red eyes, the villain already has a creepy design,
01:36but he's only made more grotesque as the cauldron consumes him, stripping the flesh
01:40from his bones.
01:55In retrospect, he was surprisingly easy for Taron to defeat, but this doesn't take away
01:59from the shock factor.
02:05Number 19.
02:06King Agnarr and Queen Aduna – Frozen
02:10Sometimes the most horrifying deaths are the most realistic.
02:13For all the magic in Frozen, King Agnarr and Queen Aduna meet a very grounded demise.
02:19After bidding farewell to their loved ones, the King and Queen of Arendelle set out for
02:23what they believe will be a two-week voyage.
02:26Sadly, Agnarr and Aduna never return.
02:29Their ship is engulfed by dangerous waters on a stormy night.
02:38Anna and Elsa are forced to relive the trauma in the sequel when they discover the wreckage
02:42of their parents' lost ship.
02:44Although there are no bodies on board, Elsa uses the water to summon the painful memory
02:48of her father and mother's final moments.
02:51Embracing each other, Agnarr and Aduna accept fate as the Dark Sea claims their lives.
03:06Number 18.
03:07Shan-Yu – Mulan Shan-Yu is a human wrecking ball, punching
03:11through doors and slicing pillars like they're made of butter.
03:14While the Hun leader has brute strength on his side, Mulan has strategy.
03:26With a fan, a sword, one big skyrocket, and a little bit of help from her friends, she
03:31ends Shan-Yu's campaign of terror.
03:34Finned down, the helpless villain is sent flying into a tower of fireworks, blowing
03:39to smithereens.
03:49Although Shan-Yu's demise seems cartoony on the surface, that's only because we're
03:54spared from seeing his crispy remains.
03:56Considering how dangerous fireworks are, it's safe to assume that Shan-Yu suffered and the
04:01aftermath was not a pretty sight.
04:03For anyone with an active imagination, however, it's hard not to envision the grisly details.
04:15Number 17.
04:16Sykes – Oliver & Company Although Oliver & Company has some breathtaking
04:23New York backdrops, it also authentically captures the city's grittier side.
04:28Nowhere is this more apparent than in the final chase, when Sykes meets his maker.
04:33This lone shark is scum, kidnapping a little girl and endangering animals in the process.
04:39As satisfying as Sykes' demise is, that doesn't make it less disturbing.
04:43Taking the pursuit onto the subway rails, our heroes dodge the oncoming train.
04:48Sykes isn't so lucky.
04:49The scene is especially terrifying when you watch it in slow motion, allowing the audience
04:54to really see the fear in Sykes' eyes as he stares down the headlights before the train
04:58obliterates his vehicle.
05:10And that, kids, is why you don't play on the subway tracks.
05:13Number 16.
05:14Professor Rattigan – The Great Mouse Detective
05:24As much as Rattigan attempts to present himself as a refined elitist, he's really nothing
05:29more than a filthy rat.
05:30Don't tell him that, though, or else you might meet the same fate as Bartholomew.
05:44When Rattigan's schemes fall apart, he lets the beast inside run rampant as he pursues
05:48Basil and little Olivia inside Big Ben.
05:52The use of sound and building music adds to the tension as Rattigan hones in on her heroes,
05:56practically ripping Basil to shreds with his claws.
06:08But as the clock bell tolls, Rattigan's time on Earth officially runs out, plunging him
06:13to an appropriate fate for a rat.
06:22Number 15.
06:23Hopper – A Bug's Life On paper, this death might not sound especially
06:27macabre.
06:28We mean, birds feed bugs to their young every day.
06:32Seeing the carnage from the bug's point of view, however, we're given a first-hand look
06:35at just how grim the food chain can be.
06:38Lured to a bird's nest, Hopper assumes that this is another fake that the ants have cooked
06:43up.
06:47It dawns on Hopper too late that this bird of prey is the real deal.
06:51By this point, his fate is sealed.
06:53Dangling from the bird's beak, Hopper is lowered into the nest where three hatchlings
06:57need to feed.
06:58The chicks look fairly realistic for a late 90s CGI, which adds to the horror as we zoom
07:04into one's mouth as Hopper is consumed.
07:15Number 14.
07:16Commander Rourke – Atlantis, The Lost Empire This may be the most creative death on our
07:21list, petrifying audiences young and old in a new and creative way.
07:27Even as his escape plan blows up in his face, Commander Rourke is determined to go down
07:32swinging.
07:33He nearly gives Milo the axe, but our hero compensates for his lack of brawn with brains.
07:38He cuts Rourke with a crystal shard, which seemingly only leaves a minor injury.
07:42The scratch rapidly envelops Rourke's entire body though, crystallizing him into a phenomenally
07:48demented creature.
07:57He looks like the Human Torch, the Invisible Woman, and the Thing all rolled into one.
08:02Still refusing to give up, Rourke hits the fan and is shattered into countless pieces.
08:07And this time, it was personal.
08:18Number 13.
08:19Scrooge – Treasure Planet A lot of Disney villains die falling from
08:23great heights.
08:24Scrooge's demise is the exact opposite.
08:27This scene is like something out of Alien, and while not quite as chilling as that film,
08:31it comes close enough.
08:32As Scrooge attempts to snap Jim Hawkins into pieces, Ben fidgets with the artificial gravity,
08:38sending the two spiraling towards the crow's nest.
08:41Although Scrooge appears to have the upper hand, or the upper claw in this case, the
08:45agile Jim bests Scrooge, ensnaring him in a black flag.
09:01As Scrooge spirals to a dire fate beyond the stars, we try not to think about the ensuing
09:05asphyxiation or decompression he probably endured.
09:09But hey, maybe he ran into Mr. Arrow out there… too soon?
09:18Number 12.
09:19Judge Doom – Who Framed Roger Rabbit Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one Disney film
09:24that was arguably made more for adult animation fans than kids.
09:28As such, the filmmakers were able to take the creep factor a step beyond.
09:32And in the 80s, that's saying a lot.
09:34The scariest moment is saved for the climax when Judge Doom reveals himself as the Toon
09:38who did in Eddie's brother.
09:52Doom is destroyed by his own concoction as he's hosed down with Dip.
09:56Channeling the Wicked Witch of the West, Doom dissolves into a puddle, wailing in
10:00agony.
10:08Unlike the Wicked Witch, however, Doom leaves a big mess behind.
10:12And we thought getting run over by a steamroller was a dark way to go.
10:16Number 11.
10:17Oogie Boogie – The Nightmare Before Christmas During his early days at Disney, Tim Burton's
10:22gothic imagination was met with some resistance.
10:25After Burton found success with films like Batman, Disney gave his team the freedom to
10:29produce this passion project, despite it being darker than their usual fare.
10:34Director Henry Selick didn't hold back with the demise of Oogie Boogie.
10:37Oogie Boogie is the stuff that nightmares are made of, figuratively speaking.
10:42Literally speaking, he's made of bugs.
10:44And thanks to a loose string, it only takes one fell swoop for Jack to unravel Oogie's
10:48dastardly plan.
10:55Stripped of his burlap sack, which was essentially his skin, Oogie's reduced to a pile of bugs.
11:07The insects that don't fall into the scorching cauldron below get stepped on by old Saint
11:12Nick.
11:13Number 10.
11:14Maleficent – Sleeping Beauty
11:25You'd be hard-pressed to find a Disney movie with a bigger, more exciting final showdown
11:29than Sleeping Beauty.
11:34In the film's climax, the wicked Maleficent decides to bring her A-game to the table by
11:38calling on the powers of hell and taking on the form of a fire-breathing dragon in a garden
11:43of thorns.
11:44Thanks to the three fairies' magic, though, Prince Philip strikes Maleficent in her black
11:48heart with his virtuous sword.
11:50Thus, a ghastly villain meets her gruesome end, notably shedding some fairly graphic
11:54blood for a Disney movie.
12:10Number 9.
12:11Gaston – Beauty and the Beast
12:16After an intense battle atop the Beast's castle, it looks like Gaston and the Beast
12:20might part ways without spilling any blood.
12:25Since the phrase, live and let live, is foreign to the egotistical hunter, though, Gaston
12:29literally stabs his prey in the back.
12:32This proves to be Gaston's undoing as he loses his balance and plummets to his death.
12:40If you think Gaston could have miraculously survived the fall somehow, the animators ruled
12:45out this possibility by adding a skull and crossbones to his pupils.
12:49How subliminally horrifying.
12:52Number 8.
12:53The Evil Queen – Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
12:56The Evil Queen might have succeeded in poisoning Snow White, but she soon learns that even
13:01monarchs can't get away with their crimes.
13:10As the Seven Dwarves race back to the cottage, the Queen absconds up a nearby mountain and
13:16attempts to crush her pursuers with a giant boulder.
13:19When a lightning bolt strikes the cliff, though, the Queen becomes the first of many Disney
13:22baddies to fall to their death.
13:30Even if the fall didn't kill her, the boulder most certainly did, providing dinner for some
13:34lingering hungry vultures.
13:43Number 7.
13:44Syndrome – The Incredibles
13:47Syndrome meets perhaps the most darkly humorous demise on this list, but it's still a terrifying
13:51way to go.
13:52Edna Mode gave several examples of why capes aren't the smartest superhero accessory.
14:04And yet, we didn't really pay much attention to Syndrome's wardrobe.
14:08That is, until the final showdown.
14:10Syndrome's undoing was hanging over his shoulders this whole time.
14:13While Syndrome avoids the car that Mr. Incredible chucks at him, his fate is sealed by a jet
14:18engine in which his cape gets caught.
14:31As clever as this resolution is, all we're thinking about now is what a turbine does
14:35to the human body.
14:37Sorry buddy, you will not be back for the sequel.
14:46Number 6.
14:47Frollo – The Hunchback of Notre Dame
14:49Frollo has deluded himself into thinking that he's a righteous man and soldier of God when,
14:54in reality, he's committed every deadly sin in the book.
15:04Frollo's lifetime of sinning and hypocrisy finally catch up to him atop Notre Dame.
15:15Before he can do Quasimodo and Esmeralda in, Frollo finds himself standing under a crumbling
15:20gargoyle.
15:21Staring a devil in the face, Frollo drops to his final resting place in a sea of hellfire
15:25and molten copper.
15:27Talk about an ironic way to go out.
15:38Number 5.
15:39Mother Gothel – Tangled
15:41For centuries, Gothel used the sundrop flower to remain healthy and youthful.
15:46When Rapunzel inherited the flower's properties, Gothel spent another 18 years feeding off
15:50the magic.
16:04Her age finally catches up to her when Eugene cuts Rapunzel's hair.
16:08As the hair loses its magical essence, it also loses its effect on Gothel.
16:13In a flash, Gothel transforms into a decrepit old woman.
16:17Not paying attention to where she's going, Gothel overlooks Pascal and trips out the
16:22window.
16:35By the time she hits the ground, only dust remains.
16:38It's an unsettling demise, although we have to admit it's kind of funny that Pascal finished
16:42her off.
16:43Never underestimate a frog, chameleon.
16:48Number 4.
16:49Dr. Facilier – The Princess and the Frog
16:51Where Frollo only figuratively fell into hell, Dr. Facilier is literally dragged there in
16:56this scene from The Princess and the Frog.
16:59Facilier believes that he has the upper hand with demonic powers on his side, but he underestimates
17:03Tiana and her sticky tongue.
17:14With his voodoo charm destroyed, Facilier's friends from the other side appear to collect
17:18their debt.
17:19In Mardi Gras fashion, an army of masks, dolls, and shrunken heads take Facilier to their world,
17:25whether he's ready or not.
17:32The moral of the story, don't screw with voodoo.
17:49Number 3.
17:50Scar – The Lion King
17:52Scar may usurp the throne from Mufasa, but he gets his comeuppance in the end.
18:09Being something of a Shakespearean villain, it's only appropriate that Scar is given
18:12a proper Shakespearean send-off.
18:24Unlike Gaston, Scar survives his fall after fighting the film's hero.
18:28It's what's waiting at the bottom of Pride Rock that leads to his ultimate demise.
18:32Turns out that Scar's hyena lackeys don't appreciate being thrown under the bus.
18:44As fire engulfs the area, the hyenas surround their former boss, maul him to death and likely
18:49devour his carcass as the camera pans up from the massacre.
19:04Ah well, circle of life.
19:06Number 2.
19:07Ursula – The Little Mermaid
19:09Ursula is already a pretty terrifying presence on her own.
19:12How can you make her any more intimidating?
19:14How about by having her grow like a hundred feet, giving her an all-powerful triton and
19:19bathing her in a whirlpool of chaos?
19:32The only thing more frightening than Ursula herself is how she perishes as Prince Eric
19:37impales her with a ship, sending the sea witch to a watery grave.
19:46No matter how old you are, this is total scary overdrive.
19:50And it was all brought to you by the dark magic of Disney.
19:57Before we unveil our number one pick, here are some honorable mentions.
20:01Charles Muntz – Up!
20:03What goes up, must come down.
20:11Stegosaurus – Fantasia
20:13An uncompromising depiction of prehistoric animal nature and nature in general.
20:28Tarzan's Parents – Tarzan
20:30The bloody paw prints would have been enough.
20:46The Oysters – Alice in Wonderland
20:48They were just kids.
21:02Mr. Whiskers – Frankenweenie
21:03Oh look at that, I've been impaled.

21:29Clayton – Tarzan
21:31This death seems more like something out of a Final Destination movie than a Disney animated
21:36feature.
21:37Sure, there's no gore, but there might as well be.
21:44In the midst of a jungle brawl with Tarzan, Clayton finds himself tangled in a cluster
21:48of vines.
21:49Unaware of the vine wrapped around his neck, Clayton gets reckless with his machete and
21:54hangs his head in defeat.
22:06The only glimpse the audience gets of the body is via its shadow, which is almost as
22:11haunting as seeing the actual carnage.
22:14Do you agree with our picks?
