00:00This is the new iPad Pro 11-inch with the M4, and this is the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra,
00:09which obviously is way bigger for starters. It's 14.6 inches, although that is the same as last year.
00:15What's changed? Well, I think the headline change is this new anti-reflective coating.
00:20You can see how it diffuses my little studio light there.
00:23So this massive Android tablet is the brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra.
00:29They finally refreshed their flagship tablets. We've got a new S10 Plus and an Ultra,
00:34although no change to the S9. That will remain on sale.
00:37So going forward now from October 4th when these go on sale,
00:40you've got the Tab S9, which they've carried over, the new Tab S10 Plus,
00:44and this big dog, the Tab S10 Ultra.
00:46And I would go as far as to say these are the best Android tablets you can buy.
00:51I say Android because obviously most people buy iPads, right? They're far more popular.
00:55But the problem with iPads is you have to be within their closed iPadOS ecosystem.
00:59Yes, it's very well optimized for tablet screens and the App Store is lovely,
01:02but if you want DeX, if you want Galaxy AI,
01:05and don't want to wait for Apple Intelligence when it eventually rolls out,
01:08and if you want some proper multitasking with three apps side by side and even a
01:13fourth one floating on top, arguably this is a much more productivity-driven device.
01:19And also I love the fact that we have this 16 by 10 aspect ratio for watching movies,
01:23for films, for having two apps side by side.
01:25This size, especially at 14.6 inches, and this aspect ratio,
01:29it really does offer something a bit different to a normal iPad.
01:32So what is new with these new Tab S10 tablets?
01:35Well, first thing you're going to notice is this anti-reflective coating,
01:39borrowed from the S24 Ultra, which I'm told reflects less than 2% of ambient light
01:44versus 4.5% than we had with last year's S9s.
01:48And combined with their Vision Booster tech, which intelligently boosts the brightness
01:51and contrast and tones depending on the environment,
01:53we have a 120Hz refresh rate and it supports HDR10+,
01:57although because it's Samsung, we don't get Dolby Vision.
02:00I mean, considering how fundamental the screen is, especially on a tablet this big,
02:04having this slightly mattified screen with this anti-reflective technology
02:08just makes all the difference for watching TVs and movies or playing games.
02:12So for me, that is the headline.
02:13But we also have a new chip.
02:15All Tab S10s come with the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+,
02:19which Samsung say offers an 18% faster processor, 28% faster graphics
02:24and a 14% faster neural engine versus the Snapdragon chip we got last year.
02:29Now, I know what you're thinking.
02:30MediaTek? What's going on there?
02:31Obviously, normally we have Snapdragon chips in Samsung devices
02:34and then sometimes outside the US and other regions globally,
02:38we have their own Exynos chips.
02:40But no, they've gone with the 9300+, as I almost dropped it there.
02:43And to give you a bit of an idea of performance,
02:45if I run Geekbench 6 and also the 3DMark Wildlife Extreme
02:49on both the S24 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3,
02:52they're actually very similar in terms of performance.
02:54So considering the previous Tab S9s use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2,
02:59effectively, in terms of performance, at least in those tests,
03:02we are now getting an 8 Gen 3 level of performance in these new guys.
03:06Now, I have actually only had a few days with this so far,
03:09so this is more of a first look video than a full in-depth review.
03:12But if the chip in the Vivo X100 Pro is anything to go by,
03:17the battery on that thing is nuts.
03:18It actually just won my battery rundown test.
03:21That's got the 9300. This has the 9300+.
03:24So I reckon this may actually have been quite a smart move by Samsung.
03:27Really good performance, 8 Gen 3 level,
03:30possibly even better battery life than we would have had with that chip as well.
03:33And not only that, but they've actually increased the size
03:35of the vapor chamber cooler that we have in here by around 50%.
03:39So with this new chip, with this improved cooling,
03:42we should get much better performance, particularly for games,
03:44and particularly sustained performance for those longer gaming sessions
03:48or if you're just running more demanding apps for long periods.
03:50And it's paired with 12 gigabytes of RAM,
03:52or if you go for the top spec SKU with a terabyte storage, then 16 gigs.
03:57On the outside, the overall design hasn't changed significantly.
04:00It's a tiny bit thinner than the Tab S9 series.
04:02And they've also improved their armor aluminum chassis,
04:05so it's about 10% stronger, they tell me.
04:07Aside from that, on the outside, not a whole lot has changed.
04:10We've still got this dual camera setup on the front,
04:12slightly juts into the screen, although it's not that big of a deal.
04:15And also we have a dual camera setup on the back,
04:17where you will also find your bundled S Pen.
04:20This does come in the box, which is great.
04:21Unlike Apple's iPads, where you have to pay extra for the Apple Pencil,
04:24we have quad speakers, Wi-Fi 7,
04:26and on the base you have the smart connector for connecting it to
04:29the book keyboards and the book covers, which I don't have with me here,
04:32but I would definitely recommend investing in either one of the keyboards.
04:35There's one with a trackpad, one without,
04:37and also a separate book cover with a kickstand.
04:40I mean, it's incredibly thin and light for the size,
04:42but it's still a bloody great laptop size screen
04:45that you have to walk around holding in your hand
04:47and you'll get a bit of cramp in your thumb.
04:48So I would definitely invest in one of the accessories that let you,
04:51you know, put it down.
04:53So, new anti-reflective screen.
04:54We have the new Dimensity 9300 Plus chip.
04:57We have the bigger, beefier vapor chamber cooler.
05:00It's a little bit thinner.
05:01They've made the chassis a touch stronger.
05:04Still IP68, by the way.
05:05And that's about it in terms of hardware changes.
05:08Everything else is software.
05:10This ships with Samsung's One UI 6.1.1,
05:13which comes with all the fancy Galaxy AI features.
05:17And I actually really appreciate there is this separate Galaxy AI
05:19little tab within the settings menu,
05:21but you're getting things like voice summary with AI.
05:23So within the Samsung Notes app, you can record voice notes
05:26and then it can transcribe and even summarize for you.
05:29So if you take it to a conference or a meeting
05:30or your lecture at university, you can record the whole thing
05:33have it transcribe and summarize it.
05:35And I wish I had this 10 years ago.
05:37They've also improved the Samsung Notes layout.
05:39You can have a split view now.
05:40We've got handwriting assist,
05:42which corrects and aligns your writing.
05:43They'll also be bringing out a math helper tool,
05:46very similar to what we've seen on the latest iPads,
05:48although that's coming in November.
05:49But I think the best bit is having the S Pen
05:51and the screen this big,
05:53and then taking advantage of some of the image generation tools.
05:56Sketch to Image is the new one with the latest software.
05:59So let's draw something.
06:00Let's just do this live.
06:01Let's draw a house.
06:03Why not?
06:04Everyone always draws a cat.
06:05Let's do a house.
06:08Let's make it 3D.
06:09Why not?
06:09Path coming out the front.
06:11Maybe a tree here.
06:13Let's go with a sketch first.
06:14Generate that.
06:15And then you have a actually kind of terrifying house,
06:18but that's not bad.
06:19It's got the little pathway, got my tree.
06:21Honestly, this works so much better than Co-Creator on Windows.
06:24You've got Galaxy AI with Sketch to Image.
06:25You can also use the pen and sketch on top of other photos
06:28and create Gen AI images on top of that.
06:30It's very similar to what we've seen with the Galaxy Fold 6,
06:33which introduced it,
06:34and then now that software is coming to the S24 series as well.
06:37You've also got Circle to Search.
06:39You just hold on the Home button bar at the bottom of the screen,
06:41and you can use the pen to highlight text,
06:43which allows you to copy and paste it,
06:44or even do live translations of it.
06:46And to be honest, just having a screen this big
06:48for using the S Pen and taking notes or doodling,
06:52it's very nice.
06:53And then when you're done,
06:54it magnetically attaches to the back,
06:56wirelessly charges,
06:57and it actually acts as a little bit of a stand,
06:59giving you a kind of nice,
07:01sort of slight angle to your tablet
07:03when you're using it on a flat surface.
07:05And of course, being part of the Samsung ecosystem,
07:06you've got App Continuity,
07:08so you can use the same app across different devices,
07:10Quick Share,
07:11and you've got Smart View,
07:12so you can mirror your tablet screen to your TV.
07:14Link to Windows,
07:15multi-control,
07:16second screen.
07:16You can use this as a second screen with your Galaxy Book laptop.
07:20And of course, also you've got Samsung DeX,
07:21and it gives you a bit more of a desktop interface
07:23for using your tablet.
07:26However, I don't know if I would buy this one.
07:29The Ultra.
07:29Because I think it might just be a bit too big.
07:3214.6 inches.
07:33Because you've also got the Tab S10+,
07:35which is actually very similar.
07:37The only differences are a slightly smaller,
07:39but still very big 12.4-inch screen,
07:41slightly smaller battery capacity,
07:43and you only have a single camera up here.
07:44You lose the main lens,
07:46you just keep the Ultra Wide.
07:47That's about it.
07:48Otherwise, same screen,
07:50same chip,
07:51same performance and cooling,
07:52and it's £200 cheaper.
07:54Now, in terms of pricing,
07:55these are very much going up against Apple's latest iPad Pros.
07:59The Tab S10 Plus will start at £999,
08:01with the Ultra here starting at £1199,
08:04so £200 more for this.
08:05And exclusively to the Ultra,
08:07a 1TB storage option,
08:09which also comes with 16GB of RAM.
08:11And both versions come with a 5G option as well,
08:13although that will cost you an extra £150.
08:15It is kind of surprising they didn't update the S9.
08:18That is still on sale side-by-side
08:19with these new Tab S10 Plus and Ultra options.
08:23So right now, at least,
08:23there's no change to the more affordable tablet options from Samsung.
08:26But if you want a super-duper high-end,
08:29beautiful-looking,
08:30and actually surprisingly powerful with the new chip,
08:33Android tablet,
08:34then, yeah,
08:34the new S10 Plus and Ultra are definitely worth considering
08:38if you've got deep pockets,
08:39because they're not cheap.
08:40But what do you reckon?
08:41Would you be tempted to go for one of these over an iPad?
08:43Any questions?
08:44Drop a comment below.
08:45I'll do my best to answer.
08:46If you enjoyed the video,
08:47a thumbs up and a subscribe would be fantastic.
08:49As my screen goes off,
08:50clearly it's time for me to end the video.
08:52Thank you so much for watching, guys.
08:53I'll see you next time right here on The Tech Chat.
08:56Bye.
