00:00Louis Tomlinson is mourning the loss of his former One Direction bandmate.
00:06Following the tragic passing of Liam Payne, who was found dead after falling from a hotel
00:11balcony in Buenos Aires on Oct. 16, Louis took to social media to pay tribute to the
00:18late musician.
00:19QUOTE,
00:20"'I am beyond devastated to be writing this, but yesterday I lost a brother.
00:24Liam was somebody I looked up to every day, such a positive, funny, and kind soul."
00:30Louis penned, noting that he believed Liam was QUOTE,
00:33"'the most vital part of One Direction'."
00:35QUOTE,
00:36"'His experience from a young age, his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing,
00:42the list goes on.
00:43Thank you for shaping us, Liam,' he added."
00:48Louis continued his heartbreaking message by directing it to Liam, writing QUOTE,
00:52"'I feel beyond lucky to have had you in my life, but I'm really struggling with the
00:57idea of saying goodbye.
00:58I'm so grateful that we got even closer since the band.
01:02Speaking on the phone for hours, reminiscing about all the thousands of amazing memories
01:06we've had together is a luxury I thought I'd have with you for life.
01:11I would have loved to share the stage with you again, but it wasn't to be,' he wrote."
01:15Ending QUOTE,
01:16"'I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me, I will be the uncle he needs in his life
01:21and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was.'"
01:25Louis ended his tribute by telling Liam that he loves him and to QUOTE,
01:28"'sleep well.'"
01:30Liam is survived by his son Bear Gray Payne, who was born in 2017.
01:35Back in 2020, Liam opened up with AXS Hollywood about how fatherhood was going for him, and
01:40he talked about sharing that experience with Louis.
01:43Me and Louis speak about it quite a lot.
01:45I mean, from our perspective, actually, for me and my ex, when we first had Bear and like
01:51after a few weeks, I don't know what Cheryl did at the time, but she got him in this beautiful
01:54sleeping pattern, he was sleeping, and I was like, I don't know what the fuss is all about.
01:58Like, what are you guys talking about?
02:00And people used to come to our house and they'd be like, how on earth have you done that?
02:04Like, how have you made it work?
02:06Because people were like, he's just so, we were very blessed and lucky with having Bear
02:10because he's so calm, there's no volume involved.
02:13He throws his toys out the pram every so often, like a little bit.
02:15Of course, kids do, but he's been a blessing so far.
02:18So for me, it was quite easy at the start, in a sense.
02:23Louis just phones me up every so often.
02:25It's comforting hearing from another dad, who's obviously outside the situation and
02:28has to visit and go in and out of it, and hearing the dynamic of the things going on
02:32with them and what happens in that way.
02:34And his son's a tiny little bit older than mine, so I kind of get a lot of the different
02:38lessons and different things off him in a lot of ways, yeah.
02:41Do your kids actually listen to any of your old music that you had?
02:47He hasn't heard Midnight, but does he like any of your stuff?
02:51He hasn't heard Midnight yet, but I'm going to send a text to his mom and make sure she
02:54plays it to him.
02:55But he used to be like my decider of whether the song was going to sink or swim, because
02:59when Familiar and Different Things came out, he was doing the full-on baby rave in the
03:02house and whatever.
03:03I was like, it's really cute, actually.
03:05And I went over one time about a couple of months ago now, and I was babysitting because
03:13she'd gone out somewhere to somebody's party.
03:15And he was like, put music on.
03:17And I was like, OK, we'll put some music on.
03:18So I went over and started turning the music on.
03:20I put a song on, and it was one I thought was one of his favorites.
03:23He was like, oh no, this is not daddy's music.
03:25And I was like, what do you mean?
03:26He was like, it's not daddy's music.
03:28And I was like, he's like, play daddy's music.
03:29And as soon as I started playing Stack It Up, whatever, he's dancing around the house.
03:33And I thought, this is just the best thing ever.
