00:00Okay, let's talk about the Apple Watch Series 7.
00:02So this year's Apple Watch is probably most interesting for people coming from like a much older Apple Watch,
00:08like a Series 0, like the OG one, up to a Series 3, or for people that have never owned an Apple Watch before
00:12and they're interested in trying it out this year.
00:14So the two big features are the screen, it's a bigger screen, about 20% bigger than the previous generation,
00:20and the faster charging.
00:21There's a few other tweaks and updates to the device, but those are the two main ones.
00:25So let's start with the screen.
00:26This display on the Series 7 is noticeably bigger than the display on the Series 4, 5, and 6,
00:31but the biggest difference is when you compare it to one of the older ones,
00:34like the Series 7 screen versus the Series 0 through 3, that's like a 50% bump up in screen size,
00:40and for people that own one of the older devices, that's a nice draw.
00:43Now, bigger screen sizes is always nice, as long as you can maintain the same kind of form factor, right?
00:48And that's what they've done here, it's fractionally bigger, like a millimeter taller than the previous generation,
00:52but it's, for all intents and purposes, the same shape and size as we've known Apple Watches to be,
00:57and with the bigger screen size, everything's just a little bit bigger.
01:00And in some cases, they've retooled the UI elements so that it's easier to tap
01:04and the buttons are a little bit larger.
01:05Everything's just better with a bigger screen.
01:07However, I will say that the benefits aren't massive.
01:11Like, in some cases, like some apps, like if you're looking at the map or you're looking at photos on your phone,
01:16then yeah, a bigger screen is better.
01:18But, for the way that I use my watch, it doesn't feel like a significantly better experience.
01:22Like, I felt that when the screen size increased from Series 3 to Series 4,
01:26that was more substantial, like that felt like a practical and more usable increase in screen size.
01:32This, it's nice, but not as clutch to me.
01:35There are two new watch faces, though, and one of them, the Modular Duo, I really like.
01:41So, this face is a little bit different.
01:44Now, there is a second exclusive face to Series 7.
01:47It's called Contour.
01:48It's the one that you see in a lot of the marketing material.
01:51And it's a little bit different.
01:52It's a little bit smaller.
01:53It's a little bit bigger.
01:54It's a little bit smaller.
01:55It's a little bit bigger.
01:56It's a little bit bigger.
01:57It's a little bit bigger.
01:58It's a little bit bigger.
01:59It's a little bit bigger.
02:00It's a little bit bigger.
02:01It's a little bit bigger.
02:02It's a little bit bigger.
02:03It's a little bit bigger.
02:04It's a little bit bigger.
02:05It's a little bit bigger.
02:06It's a little bit bigger.
02:07It's a little bit bigger.
02:08It's a little bit bigger.
02:09It's a little bit bigger.
02:10It's a little bit bigger.
02:11It's a little bit bigger.
02:12It's a little bit bigger.
02:13It's a little bit bigger.
02:14It's a little bit bigger.
02:15It's a little bit bigger.
02:16It's a little bit bigger.
02:17It's a little bit bigger.
02:18It's a little bit bigger.
02:19It's a little bit bigger.
02:20It's a little bit bigger.
02:21It's a little bit bigger.
02:22It's a little bit bigger.
02:23It's a little bit bigger.
02:24It's a little bit bigger.
02:25It's a little bit bigger.
02:26It's a little bit bigger.
02:27It's a little bit bigger.
02:28It's a little bit bigger.
02:29It's a little bit bigger.
02:30It's a little bit bigger.
02:31It's a little bit bigger.
02:32It's a little bit bigger.
02:33It's a little bit bigger.
02:34It's a little bit bigger.
02:35It's a little bit bigger.
02:36It's a little bit bigger.
02:37It's a little bit bigger.
02:38It's a little bit bigger.
02:39It's a little bit bigger.
02:40It's a little bit bigger.
02:41It's a little bit bigger.
02:42It's a little bit bigger.
02:43It's a little bit bigger.
02:44It's a little bit bigger.
02:45It's a little bit bigger.
02:46It's a little bit bigger.
02:47It's a little bit bigger.
02:48It's a little bit bigger.
02:49It's a little bit bigger.
02:50It's a little bit bigger.
02:51It's a little bit bigger.
02:52It's a little bit bigger.
02:53It's a little bit bigger.
02:54It's a little bit bigger.
02:55It's a little bit bigger.
02:56It's a little bit bigger.
02:57It's a little bit bigger.
02:59thing about the screen is that with Series 7, again, it's an exclusive feature, you get
03:03access to a QWERTY keyboard.
03:05So if you're typing a text message, if you're inputting text on your watch, you can type
03:10on a full QWERTY keyboard.
03:11And it supports quick paths.
03:12You can swipe around to input text a little bit quicker and also has predictive text.
03:16But I did find some issues with it.
03:18Like I understand that this is not like the only way to input text, right?
03:21If you're trying to respond to a message, you can use your dictation or you can use
03:24the canned messages.
03:25But if you do choose this and you want to use the QWERTY keyboard, I found it cumbersome.
03:31Like you're very dependent on the predictive text to get your message across.
03:35Like your fingertip is big, right?
03:36Compared to the size of that screen.
03:38And if you're swiping around or poking around, it's just not an accurate tool for that size
03:42of display.
03:43So you're leaning very heavily on the predictive text.
03:46And if you ever make a mistake and hit that backspace button, it's really close to the
03:49send button.
03:50I feel like Apple should lower that in the UI a little bit, just so it's not as easy
03:53to mispress.
03:54But you do have access to a QWERTY keyboard if you do need it in a pinch.
03:57Okay.
03:58So when it comes to the screen, I feel like it's a nice addition if you're coming from
04:01something that's really old or you're brand new to Apple watches.
04:04The nice big screen is always a nice addition, but I don't think it's a, it's a powerful
04:08enough incentive for people to come over from like a recent Apple watch to this one.
04:12But there is a feature on the Series 7 that I think is awesome and it's the charging.
04:17So it charges, I believe 30% faster than the previous generation.
04:22You have to use the included charger.
04:24So if you have one of the older, like a, like a, you know, we've had an older device that's
04:29made by third party and it was designed to charge Apple watches, having Series 7 on one
04:34of those devices, it won't charge fast.
04:37It'll charge at the original speed, but with the new charger and I'm assuming with new
04:41devices that are going to come out for charging at a quicker rate, this thing charges, it
04:47charges at a speed that I feel changes the way that I view this device.
04:51It changes how I use the watch.
04:52So normally when it comes to my personal use, I was never able to go through the day, get
04:57some kind of workout in or some kind of like fitness tracking in while also doing a sleep
05:01tracking off of one charge.
05:03It would always kind of die or be really low in the morning so that it would just be unusable
05:07the next day.
05:08So I feel like this faster charge rate makes it so that I can do the full day off of one
05:14faster charge.
05:15And it sounds so weird that just a little bit of increase in charge speed changes how
05:19I even view this entire product from Apple, but it does.
05:22And I feel like if you've ever been the person who's looked at Apple watches and like, I
05:26hate charging it frequently or I hate charging a watch.
05:29That's why I don't want it.
05:30I do feel like it's a significant update from older models, but that's not for everyone.
05:34That's just for people like myself who are just bad at charging electronic devices.
05:38Okay.
05:39In terms of fitness.
05:40So for the past year, because I've been on Android devices, I actually haven't used my
05:44Apple watch very much.
05:45Like I just don't, I don't care both phones frequently.
05:47So oftentimes I just didn't use my Apple watch and because I was sent this review unit
05:53and I was testing it out, it is a strangely powerful motivator to turn this thing on and
05:59like go into the fitness app and see your friends, right?
06:02You see like Marquez one day puts in, you know, 9 million calories on a workout.
06:06It's like, God damn, like I'm sitting here eating chips.
06:09I should be doing something.
06:10It actually, I feel like that gamification of this thing is amazing.
06:16And just over the past, I don't know, five, six days, I've worked at every single day
06:19just because I'm seeing rings across friends, colleagues have just, everyone's filling up
06:23rings.
06:24It's like, I got to do the same.
06:25I feel like I'm, I feel like I'm being lazy if I don't now in terms of sleep tracking,
06:30this is just like a personal anecdotal story.
06:33I don't sleep very much.
06:34I sleep like four to five hours a night.
06:35I know I don't sleep enough.
06:36My wife tells me I don't sleep enough.
06:38My kids tell me I don't sleep enough.
06:39I don't sleep enough, but having a watch tell me like another device, tell me that like,
06:44you know, sleep more.
06:45It's time to sleep.
06:46It's like, I find it just more anxiety provoking.
06:48I just did not like it.
06:49I was like, okay, I know I should sleep, but I can't.
06:51I got stuff to do.
06:52I got work to deal with.
06:54I just, it didn't help me over the past like year that I've tried to use this device to
07:00improve my sleep habits.
07:02It didn't do anything.
07:04Just putting it out there for the people that are curious.
07:06Okay.
07:07So I'm just going to wrap up this conversation with one last thought.
07:09So there were rumors of the Apple Watch Series 7 to have a complete redesign.
07:15There were several sources, reputable sources, including Gurman from Bloomberg and John Prosser
07:19from FrontPageTech and Ming-Chi Kuo.
07:20They all thought that there would be a refresh, like a redesign for Apple Watch Series 7.
07:26And obviously it didn't come right.
07:28That flat face design never came around.
07:30It was just the standard curved edge Apple Watch that we've seen for several years now.
07:35So when it, when it first came out that this was going to be Apple Watch Series 7, I think
07:40a lot of people kind of laughed at the rumors like, you know, why do we even look at rumors?
07:44Why do we listen to them?
07:45Because clearly that's not what Apple Watch Series 7 was supposed to be.
07:47But this year's Apple Watch did not get an updated CPU, like the S7 chip.
07:53It's got some updated elements to it, right?
07:55Like there's a new driver for the display.
07:57I'm sure there's other features in it that, you know, they've updated the package, but
08:02the actual processor uses the same CPU as last year's.
08:07And that's a first for an Apple Watch.
08:09Now, there's a part of me that feels like those leaks and rumors were actually somewhat
08:15true.
08:16Like I do feel like that flat edge design thing is going to come out at some point.
08:21I just, it just doesn't feel, something feels off.
08:25Something felt like the iterative changes that were on this year's Apple Watch, as nice
08:29as they are for like older generation users, it just felt too slight to be like a proper
08:36update.
08:37And I feel like maybe next year, that's the flat edge thing that we're going to be seeing.
08:41Just a theory.
08:42Okay.
08:43So that's my thoughts on Apple Watch Series 7.
08:45I'm going to be wearing this one because I switched to the iPhone this year.
08:49This is, I mean, those rings, I got to feel those rings.
08:52Okay.
08:53Hope you guys enjoyed this video.
08:54Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
08:55See you guys next time.
