00:00A lack of time could be costing the average small business £4,000 every year.
00:06Energy bills are the top concern for SME owners in the region, with 48% identifying them as
00:12a major worry.
00:14The research commissioned by Smart Energy GB, who are working with Mowgli Street food
00:18founder and TV chef Nisha Katona to help small business owners navigate their way through
00:23their business expenditure.
00:25It's really hard.
00:26And that's what we find is, I know because I am one, but you know, small business owners,
00:31they feel as though there aren't enough hours in the day to keep on top of absolutely all
00:35of their outgoings.
00:36And there are so many outgoings and that's why it's a real triumph when you can take
00:41control of all of those bills and understand, you know, what's going out.
00:46A forget-to-cancel culture where a lack of time means regular subscriptions roll over
00:50without being reviewed was another reason why 24% felt they had higher outgoings.
00:56You come into this building of a business and there's a million outgoings and a million
01:01suppliers you're having to deal with, and all of this, you know, trying to manage your
01:05costs and thinking, how can I build this so that I'm not expensive, so that I'm still
01:09reasonably priced?
01:11And that is why I'm so passionate about, you know, small business owners not being afraid
01:17of building your businesses and actually treating it as though it's your own home.
01:21You know, things like the smart meter, for instance, just, you know, if you, if you do
01:25it in your own home, you do it in your business.
01:27If you care about switching lights off in your own home, you need to care about it in
01:30your business.
01:31In 2023, the North West was the English region with the largest increase of private sector
01:37businesses according to ONS figures.
01:40I think our spirit is phenomenal in this city.
01:43And do you know what is also great is that the way the city will support you if you start
01:47a business.
01:48Do you know what I mean?
01:49When I started Mowgli, the majority of my dishes, can you imagine, were meat-free?
01:53I mean, how was that even a thing at the time when people were doing the dirty burgers
01:56and Liverpool rallied around me?
