The Women, Family and Community Development Minister shared about the incident which was related to her by one of her officers involving a friend, who faced physical harassment.

00:00Please welcome the representative of Malaya University, Saiful Jaya.
00:09When I first became the minister,
00:15I saw the statistics at the time,
00:19which were obtained by the police,
00:22out of a few hundred,
00:25more than 400,
00:27we only had more than 100 men.
00:30But the figure was static,
00:32it was static, it didn't grow.
00:34When we held an education like this,
00:38when we held an education like this,
00:41we could see our counter,
00:44our PSSS counter,
00:46the local social support centre,
00:50where we placed counsellors.
00:53There, we could see the increase.
00:57It was only men,
00:59up to hundreds,
01:01who came forward.
01:02Maybe it was because he was a man,
01:05he was shy.
01:06Awareness for the future.
01:09Maybe he wasn't macho.
01:11This is not a compliment,
01:13this is an opportunity for us to talk,
01:15and we got a new idea,
01:18how this counsellor helped us.
01:21Other than that,
01:23we need to involve men,
01:25so that they can talk to their friends,
01:28to their family, to their friends.
01:31I want to talk about my employee.
01:35Coincidentally, that day,
01:37I was actively talking about this matter,
01:40and I heard in the news,
01:42there was a man who went shopping,
01:47and he wanted to go fitting.
01:51He went to a fitting room,
01:53in a shopping complex.
01:58He went there,
02:00and there was a salesperson following him,
02:04following him to the fitting room.
02:08He was good at hitting his partner.
02:10Both men.
02:11He didn't know.
02:12You have no right to do that.
02:14He didn't know.
02:15The man contacted my employee,
02:18and he said,
02:19I just got hit.
02:21He didn't do anything.
02:23He just hit his back,
02:25or his buttocks.
02:27I don't know.
02:28But this is something that is already happening.
02:31I don't know how he dared to do that
02:35to a potential customer.
02:39This happened to a man.
02:42If we could,
02:44we would ask men to join our program,
02:48Squad Wajah.
02:49We have an NGO called Squad Wajah,
02:51which focuses on issues like this.
02:56They are provided with knowledge
03:00on how to help.
03:02But mostly,
03:04there are thousands of women.
03:06Men may think they are not needed
03:10in an NGO like this.
03:13I don't blame anyone.
03:15Maybe we, as the ministry,
03:18especially the Women's Welfare Department,
03:20need more people to offer.
03:25They can join us in Squad Wajah.
03:28That's one.
03:29We also encourage their involvement
03:32in a program like this.
03:34Maybe we want to hear what men have to say.
03:37Because women are often the victims.
03:40Or children.
03:41Children, especially men and women, are the same.
03:44They are usually the victims.
03:46The same goes for our parents.
03:48We want men to speak to their parents.
03:51Because sometimes,
03:52we hear women's voices too often.
03:55But it's time for them to also listen to the men's voice.
03:58And also, we ask them to help
04:01in social media.
04:03Let's use social media
04:05with more impact
04:07or be more aggressive
04:09for more people to know
04:12what we can do.
