00:00Or with Miles Garrett, just on the front end of this, he is the biggest fish that may be
00:05available.
00:06And I still stress may, because I think players like that don't easily get moved and they
00:10typically require multiple firsts.
00:13We have to know who we're dealing with.
00:14I don't know that Brad is giving up two first, but John at one in five, Cleveland is maybe
00:20the only team in football that can't say next year is going to be better.
00:23Everybody else in the NFL will convince themselves.
00:26We can move on from guys.
00:27We can sign guys.
00:28We can trade guys because Cleveland has the anchor of Deshaun Watson.
00:31They will be playing with one hand tied behind their back this season, next season and the
00:35season after that.
00:36There's no way that he can move him.
00:39And he takes up such a high percentage of their cap that they're the team that's the
00:42can't say, Hey, we can turn this around in an off season.
00:45Their timeline is several years removed from competing for a championship.
00:49You mentioned the cap.
00:50So it invites the conversation.
00:52I also don't know what the dead cap hit would be for Cleveland.
00:55He may be a guy that they would want to trade, but they can't.
00:58Well, that's why you have to pay.
00:59Right.
01:00Yes.
01:01And that's, that's what gets into this.
01:02So all along, I said, if you can get Max Crosby, great.
01:04I don't think it's likely I would love miles Garrett.
01:07I don't think it's likely, maybe slightly more likely now that they've admitted and
01:10they've started fire sailing, maybe miles Garrett would be available when I give up
01:14two firsts.
01:15Yes, I would give up two firsts.
01:17They're likely picks 30, 31 or 32 for the next two seasons while you chase the Super
01:22Bowl.
01:23And I stress if you're worried about, well, longevity, how about the longevity of next
01:27season?
01:28Having miles Garrett and Aiden Hutchinson.
01:29How about that for a Super Bowl window that very much still stays open?
01:34That would be a dream.
01:36Yeah.
01:37Does it remain a dream?
01:38Because yeah, you're paying miles Garrett.
01:41You're paying Amon Ross, St. Brown, Jared Goff, Penny Sewell, now a Lee McNeil.
01:46You're also going to have to pay Aiden Hutchinson.
01:49What you're probably going to do.
01:50And I think Brad Holmes is incredibly sharp.
01:52Yeah.
01:53They're going to know what you're going to pay.
01:54And what I'm saying, what Brad would probably do after securing Aiden is maneuver these
01:58other deals and shift around and add years and slide money.
02:01No, I don't mean there's any hesitation in paying Aiden Hutchinson, but Brad's sharp
02:06and he's already staggered some of these deals.
02:08He would have to move bonus money around to try to keep everybody.
02:12But John, in the NFL, you really don't have a 10 year window unless you have Patrick Mahomes.
02:17You're really operating in two and three year segments.
02:20And I think miles Garrett fits the three year segment that this football team would be chasing
02:23a Super Bowl.
02:25He's got a better timeline, better for the Lions than he does the Browns.
02:26And it's why I would absolutely inquire.
02:28I'd absolutely give up the two first.
02:30I don't think they will.
02:32And I don't think they have to to win the Super Bowl.
02:35Clearly, you'd feel better if they did.
02:37Miles Garrett's out there to four, eight, five, three, nine, 97, 97.
02:40Do you think he is actually available?
02:42And would you pay the freight to bring in a player like that?
02:45I certainly would.
02:46Two first for miles Garrett.
02:47Absolutely.
02:48Because they will.
02:49What you said, 30, 31, 32.
02:50Those are the picks.
02:51Yeah, it's.
02:53First round picks.
02:54First round value.
02:55You get that fifth year option, but it's, you're not talking about a top five or top
02:5910 pick.
03:00And here's the other thing.
03:02When you pay like the Lions have, young stars, you have the benefit from the franchise of
03:10knowing that you can extend them with voidable years, with other, you know, other years.
03:15And you can, you can move money around and you know that because they are young, they're
03:21not going to age out by the time for what you're doing with their contracts.
03:25From a player's perspective, it's always whenever they come to you and say, we would like to
03:29restructure your deal, unless you're an old player that they're asking for money back.
03:35The answer is always, yes, please restructure my deal because it will include more guaranteed
03:40money.
03:41It will probably include more money.
03:42It's always a benefit to the player as a young player, especially if you're in a big contract
03:47for them to come to you and say, would you, we'd be interested in restructuring your deal
03:50because we want to sign this other guy.
03:52Yes, please give me more money.
03:54So for a guy like Sewell, who you think is at the start of a very, very long career,
03:58yes.
03:59St. Brown is at the start of a very long and productive.
04:01These guys, you could go and say, let's smooth the money over an extra year and free up a
04:06little more wiggle room.
04:07I'm not worried about the cap when it comes to trading for a player like Myles Garrett.
04:11I think the cost would be scary.
04:13We heard Dan Campbell yesterday say, you got to give up the farm to get certain guys.
04:17It feels like they're the type of team that should be considering giving up the farm to
04:20win a Super Bowl.
04:21I mean, they are in the elite group of teams in the NFL, especially if they had a Myles
04:26Garrett to replace Aiden Hutchinson.
04:28But here's the thing about Myles Garrett.
04:30I think two firsts and maybe some other late round picks would get it done.
04:36If you're talking about Max Crosby, you're probably talking three firsts, which I think
04:42as far out as you can go in terms of trading draft picks, there are rules regarding how
04:46many drafts you can go down the road of trading your picks.
04:51But to me, that's selling the farm.
04:54Some ticket text coming in that says, the question is not whether or not we should get
04:57Myles Garrett or these other guys, it's whether the GM likes these guys and think they are
05:02a fit.
05:03Well, Myles Garrett fits on anybody's team that's trying to win a Super Bowl, right?
05:06Yeah.
05:07I don't think that's a question.
05:08The number one pass rusher to this point of the season is Aiden Hutchinson.
05:12Number two?
05:13Myles Garrett.
05:14Right.
05:16I think the guy most equipped to replace Aiden's production so far this season is Myles Garrett,
05:19who always flirts with the defensive player of the year conversation.
05:22Texture says, didn't Valenti say this on Monday?
05:24Yeah, I think he did bring up Myles Garrett on Monday.
05:27He also where we differ is he feels like if you don't add miles, you can't win the Super
05:31Bowl.
05:32Right.
05:33We all want Myles Garrett.
05:34Like we could take a straw poll of Detroit.
05:35Do you think Myles Garrett's a good football player?
05:36One hundred percent of people would say yes.
05:38Yes.
05:39You want to add him.
05:40The question is, do you guys think Brad Holmes will pay the freight or are they going to
05:43go more of a role-player complementary piece?
