00:00No amendment shall be made to the constitutions without the concurrence of the Yang di-Pertuan
00:08Negeri of Sabah or Sarawak, or each of the states of Sabah and Sarawak concerned, and
00:14it is an obligation.
00:16Semporna MP Shafiee Abdal has questioned whether consent has been obtained from Sabah and Sarawak
00:22leaders for the proposed constitutional amendments on citizenship.
00:27Shafiee said this consent is required under Article 161e sub 2 of the federal constitution.
00:34In Malaysia, the supreme is the constitution, bukannya kabinet, bukannya eksekutif yang ada.
00:43On July 19th, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Conference of Rulers had consented
00:49to the constitutional amendments to the citizenship law.
00:53However, the amendments have faced criticism from various groups who said the removal of
00:58automatic citizenship for children born to Malaysian permanent residents would worsen
01:02matters for stateless people.
