00:3813 mining companies were awarded the 2023 Presidential Mineral Industry Environmental Award
00:45in Malacanang this morning.
00:47President R. Marcos, Jr. said that mining companies were responsible and safe
00:52in the field of nature, health, and communities.
00:57These awardees have shown commendable support for our vision for the mining sector.
01:03You continue to invest in environmental technologies and adopt best practices
01:08that go even beyond compliance, from pioneering reforestation efforts
01:13to utilizing more sustainable extraction techniques.
01:17And, of course, your meaningful contributions to the host and neighboring communities
01:22through education, health care, and livelihood programs are truly inspiring.
01:28The government values responsible mining in the face of rising demand for clean energy
01:35and the promotion of the use of electronic vehicles.
01:38In 2023, mining production in tin, copper, and nickel reached Php 160 billion.
01:47The contribution of the industry to gross domestic product reached 0.5%.
01:54In addition, President R. Marcos pushed the rationalization of the mining fiscal regime
02:00or the demand for higher taxes from mining industries
02:05and the promotion of more responsible mining.
02:09Environment Department Secretary Toni Yulo-Loyzaga assured
02:13that the country's mining industries will be strictly monitored.
02:17When was the last time the two mining industries, Camarines Norte and Cagayan,
02:23were shut down by the DNR?
02:25When was the last time their mining permit was violated
02:28and Chinese foreign workers admitted that the agency was responsible for it?
02:34It's certainly a concern.
02:36And so we work very closely with our other partners,
02:39not just, I would say, the local authorities,
02:46but certainly with our partners in the Department of Defense.
02:51And of course, DTI and DOLE, we'd like to have closer cooperation
02:57to see whether there's really a document that is correct.
03:04The agency is using satellites to monitor mining industries
03:08and is closely coordinating with other government agencies.
03:12The case against them is being prepared.
03:15Secretary Yulo-Loyzaga also announced
03:17that the payment of the Loss and Damage Fund will be completed.
03:22It was made by the United Nations Climate Change Conference
03:26which is far from the fund and will provide financial assistance
03:30to countries affected by climate change.
03:34It was led by 26 countries,
03:37and the Philippines was chosen as the host of the Loss and Damage Fund Board.
03:42In December, the guidelines are expected to be completed
03:45and it is its priority to give funds to countries
03:49that are considered vulnerable to climate change.
03:52That's the latest from Malacanang.
03:54Back to you, Aljo.
