Police Interceptors S23E07 (14th October 2024)
Transcript
00:00This is Police Interceptors, and you're riding with the pride of Northamptonshire.
00:11Speed one two zero, ace pursuit drivers, with air support, and a crack dog unit.
00:28They bring down the bad guys, keep the streets safe, and battle 24-7 in the war on crime.
00:46Crash, crash.
00:48Here's what it is, isn't it? We find them, we lock them up.
00:54Coming off.
00:58A runaway driver.
01:02Runs into the sharp end of the law.
01:08A seven ton tea pack.
01:11Slow it down at the front, slow it down at the front.
01:13Sees a suspect totally bricking it.
01:18Police officer with a dog, open the port-a-loo now!
01:21And a grade A intercept.
01:25Leads to a haul of suspected class A's.
01:28Stop playing around right now, do you understand?
01:41It's the early hours of the late shift.
01:46Multiple units are hunting an Alfa Romeo that failed to stop for blue lights.
01:55After pinging an ANPR camera, interceptors soon have it in their sights.
02:00I believe it's seen us, and it's Joey, he's in a very bad way.
02:03But it's clear he's hell-bent on escaping the law.
02:12The Alfa male flies through reds and lets the trottle out.
02:17The Alfa Romeo.
02:19The Alfa Romeo.
02:21The Alfa Romeo.
02:23The Alfa Romeo.
02:25The Alfa Romeo.
02:27The Alfa Romeo.
02:29The Alfa Romeo.
02:31The Alfa Romeo.
02:33I'm going to get on my tire and bring that light, get on top of the Alfa Romeo.
02:38But the XC60 soon brings him in.
02:47This is the last left at the lights, I'm turning to the left road.
02:51The runaway is putting his own life and other drivers in severe danger.
02:58Only a last second swerve saved this bloke from serious injury.
03:04The suspect is increasing his speed.
03:08And becoming increasingly reckless.
03:25The nippy Italian number may be a match for the Volvo.
03:29But it's no match for German engineering.
03:34In the BMW 340i, Berti and Sandra have joined the party.
03:44Pushing his Beamer to twice the legal speed limit, he makes a beeline to the Alfa's location.
03:59Up ahead, the suspect is showing little sign of slowing down.
04:07Or giving up.
04:13The good news is that the Alfa's loops of the back streets have bought the Interceptor's time.
04:21And they're flying in.
04:2923-year veteran Berti is a big fan of Top Gun.
04:35And with a twitch of the afterburners, he can now see the lead car up ahead.
04:47His internal sat-nav has sent him down a shortcut.
04:59And he's betting that will get him ahead of the pursuit.
05:14Once in position,
05:18they don't have to wait long.
05:25The Beamer's now leading the hunt.
05:29And with 380 horses under the hood,
05:37Berti gallops after the Alfa, tracking it out of town towards a possible stinger site.
05:59Spikes are primed up ahead.
06:05They just need the Alfa driver to stick to this road.
06:22Playing a stinger is all about timing.
06:29Good lad.
06:32And this one is bang on schedule.
06:41Running on flats, the Alfa is quickly slowing down.
06:48But not quickly enough for Berti, who decides this chase has gone far enough.
06:59With his motor boxed in,
07:03Alfa male is out of the traps and away.
07:12It's now a foot race and the interceptors are hot on his heels.
07:17But this one's not going down without a fight.
07:21Officer Chaser, stop!
07:23Officer Chaser, stop!
07:29Stop!
07:33Stop!
07:41Interceptors are involved in a high speed pursuit of an Alfa Romeo driver.
07:50Slowed by a stinger.
07:54Good lad.
07:56He's been boxed in by a beamer.
08:02And has now done a runner.
08:06With more units closing in, the suspect nips down an alleyway.
08:13Officer Chaser, stop!
08:15Officer Chaser, stop!
08:16But then gets snagged while trying to scale some spiked railings.
08:21Please help me!
08:22I say look, you're under arrest.
08:26Oh, that's someone.
08:27Have you got him?
08:29I know where he is!
08:30He's there!
08:32OK, they're back on.
08:37Yeah, I'm being careful. Stop!
08:40I'm going back over.
08:41The officers have their man.
08:43But not for long.
08:46Careful, careful, careful.
08:51Yeah.
08:56The injured suspect legs it towards the back garden.
09:01But soon decides he's done with running for the night.
09:04Do not move.
09:05If you move, you'll be tasered.
09:08OK?
09:09Stay there!
09:10Don't move.
09:11Don't get up, stay there!
09:12Don't move.
09:14Stay there.
09:15Keep your hands up.
09:16Stay there.
09:17That's the legs.
09:19The cavalry rolls in.
09:25Pass.
09:26And slaps on the cuffs.
09:30I ain't numb now.
09:32Just stand by.
09:33A quick check of his vitals.
09:36Stay there for a minute.
09:38Reveals a puncture wound to the upper leg.
09:41OK, I'm going to get you up.
09:43Try and get your hospital mate.
09:44An inch to the right could have cost him more than a trip to A&E.
09:49Ready? Stand at one, two, three.
09:52My turn.
09:54The alpha male, skewered by two lots of spikes,
09:57pleaded guilty to dangerous driving,
09:59driving whilst disqualified,
10:01driving without insurance and failed to provide,
10:04was sent to prison for two years
10:06and was banned from driving for four years.
10:10And he wasn't the only one with battle scars from driving.
10:14In tonight's events...
10:16Towards the industrial estate, left, left.
10:18When boxing in the alpha...
10:23..the beamer took a bit of a beating.
10:27I'm just crossed that we've damaged the car.
10:32I reckon if I gave you an hour, you'd have that sorted right out.
10:35Buffed up.
10:45Across the UK, curtain siding is on the rise.
10:49There's parcels falling out of the back of the vehicle.
10:52And more and more thieves use disguised stolen vans...
10:56Stay there.
10:57..to carry out their heists.
10:59I've got one detained, one's run off.
11:03So the way that the criminals will disguise the vehicles
11:07will be to clone plates,
11:10so they will find a Mercedes Sprinter parked up somewhere,
11:15take the plates off of that vehicle
11:17and they will then stick on those plates to the Sprinter
11:21that they're going to use to commit their crime in.
11:24So it wouldn't give any officer a suspicion
11:28to perhaps stop it and see who's in it
11:31before they make their getaway.
11:40It's just gone midnight on Monday.
11:47Michael Holliwell has received news
11:49of a clone van hurtling down the M1.
11:53There's a vehicle that's come southbound
11:55from Derbyshire into Leicestershire
11:57and it's come as far south to the borders of Thames Valley
12:00from Northamptonshire.
12:04The cops suspect the van is carrying stolen goods.
12:10And multiple units from three counties
12:12are racing to intercept it.
12:21The units get in formation for a T-pack.
12:31But boxing in a seven-tonne motor travelling at over 50
12:34is no easy ask.
12:36The van man tries to outmanoeuvre the pursuing pack.
12:40But his heavy handling just makes space
12:42for another cop to nip in front and put the squeeze on.
13:07But the suspect...
13:11hasn't stopped.
13:15He's away on his toes in motorway traffic.
13:22Parked up behind the van, dog handler Sam
13:24and German shepherd Ollie take up the chase.
13:31Dicing with death, the drivers legged it
13:33across four lanes of oncoming vehicles.
13:38Sam knows she can't be as reckless.
13:45But she also knows that each passing car
13:47is costing her crucial time.
13:55After spotting a gap in the traffic, the hunt is on.
13:58Wait.
14:02I'm with him, mate. Wait.
14:05Where's he gone over?
14:07The driver has been clocked heading through trees
14:09towards a large housing estate.
14:12Where?
14:16Good lad, Ollie.
14:17The search area is widening.
14:20Come here.
14:21Come here.
14:27So air support are called in to help scout
14:29ahead of pursuing officers.
14:41As the suspect fled through the woods,
14:43he left scent trails.
14:51Ollie's nose has locked onto and led Sam
14:53to an area on the east side of the village.
15:07The nearby woods and houses offer both
15:09hiding places and escape routes.
15:13But Michael is racing in to tighten the net.
15:17We're going to be coming up to the village
15:19and hopefully we'll see some beneath us.
15:28On the ground, Ollie's nose has led Sam
15:30towards a cluster of houses.
15:33While up in the air...
15:38...eyes in the sky have spotted something
15:40in the same area.
15:50I can't quite work out what it is.
15:55Armed with a nose carrying 50 times more
15:57scent receptor cells than his handler,
15:59Ollie homes in on the heat source.
16:04This is Dog Handler. We've got you off camera.
16:06We're tracking ahead of you.
16:14Ollie can smell fear.
16:17And that's not all.
16:24Ollie seems sure he's got his man.
16:27But Sam needs a visual to be certain.
16:30Stay where you are now! Get on the floor!
16:32Get on the floor in front!
16:33Get on the floor now!
16:35Get on the ground!
16:36Stay where you are!
16:37Get your arms behind your back!
16:39Spit the fag out!
16:40Spit the fag out!
16:43A fag burn is the least of this lad's worries.
16:47At the moment, you're under arrest.
16:51Suspicion of dangerous drive.
16:54Failing to stop for police.
16:55Do you understand?
16:56After a quick sweep for any dropped evidence...
16:59Funny place to hide.
17:01On your feet on three. Ready?
17:02One, two, three. Up you get.
17:05Michael arrives a little late for the party.
17:08He was after that digger, wasn't he? That's what he was after.
17:11I don't know.
17:14But bang on time to help Harrison escort the runaway driver
17:17into his motor and then back to the station.
17:21Where he'll have plenty of time for another sit down
17:24and a think about his mad break for freedom.
17:29It's pitch black where he's jumped out.
17:31If he's not seen by the cars, he's going to be collected by one of them
17:34and it's going to be a disaster.
17:36But, I mean, it's a risk that they will take
17:40and, more often than not, it will pay off for them, but not today.
17:45The runner, flushed from a port-a-loo,
17:47was convicted of dangerous driving, no insurance, no licence
17:51and other unrelated offences.
17:53He got a 34-month driving ban and was sent down for 28 months.
17:58No action was taken for the cloned plates.
18:02Take care of yourself. All right, mate.
18:18It's Wednesday evening.
18:22Harrison Beverley has been called to assist Lloyd Mason,
18:25who's tailing a man wanted for a serious domestic assault.
18:37Knowing the suspect's form, Harrison wants to get him in custody
18:40as quickly and painlessly as possible.
18:44If he knows he's wanted, it doesn't potentially mean he fails to stop.
18:47So, hopefully, we can get to the area and get the vehicle stopped
18:50and get him locked up.
18:54Pushing his Volvo hard, Harrison soon has Lloyd in his sights.
19:03Lloyd, I'm behind, one behind you at the minute.
19:06With Harrison now behind, they could try to pull off a two-car box.
19:13One four of that just prepped itself.
19:15I'll take the front and you take the rear.
19:20But the Navara weighs two tonnes, so three cars would be ideal.
19:26Beware, he's got a tow bar on the back.
19:28If their man knows he's being tailed,
19:30then he's showing no signs of it.
19:33Just as they plan their move...
19:40..the Navara pulls into a petrol station.
19:43Speed increased to four zero now, four zero.
19:47Just as they plan their move...
19:49..the Navara pulls into a petrol station.
20:02Do you have one, mate? I've got one at this time.
20:04Fearing a de-camp...
20:06Stay there, stay there. Stay there.
20:08Put your hands behind your back.
20:10Put your hands behind your back.
20:12Harrison acts quickly to put him in cuffs.
20:16The minute you're under arrest for harvest domestic offences...
20:19You're under arrest, OK?
20:21That's 50 for domestic assault.
20:26Just confirmed, we've got... He's in custody, it's him.
20:30The guy's facing serious charges
20:32and potentially a long stint behind bars.
20:35Have you got anything sharp on you? No.
20:38Cameraman, get out of my face.
20:40I don't care, I don't want to film.
20:42You're in public.
20:45Just stay there. Just chill.
20:47Listen, listen.
20:49I don't want anything. I swear I'll smash that camera in his face.
20:53I will.
20:55With the camera-shy driver in a cop car, Lloyd turns to his passenger.
21:00I suspect you've been involved in a theft offence which has occurred.
21:04OK, so I'll print you, OK?
21:07So if you are telling me your details,
21:09if you'll give me a fake name, which I think you are,
21:12I'll find out, all right?
21:14So it's your last opportunity to tell me the truth, OK?
21:17What's your name?
21:19Lloyd was a BEAT officer around here for years.
21:22It's really simple. It's not a difficult question.
21:25What's your name? I'm Arnie.
21:28Arnie never forgets a face.
21:30I've worked in Corby my entire career.
21:32Can I give him a kiss?
21:35Harrison thinks evidence of the theft is in the Navara.
21:38Trouble is...
21:41That dog's passive!
21:43..there's a third passenger still inside.
21:47Is he friendly? No. No.
21:50He is friendly, but... To you? Yeah.
21:56This is a 70-pound carne corso puppy.
22:00And he doesn't seem happy about what's happened to Mum and Dad.
22:04He's got a big old bark on him, hasn't he?
22:07Harrison allows the suspect to call his family in
22:10to help calm the dog down.
22:12I'm at the BP garage with a truck. Do you need to come and get it?
22:16Pretty good result.
22:18Just need to start this massive dog out now in the car
22:20before you can search it, so we'll wait for them.
22:23Come and get the dog out of the car and then we'll go for it.
22:27An hour later, the family member arrives.
22:32Harrison hopes his familiar face will help lure the dog out.
22:40Maybe not.
22:42I might go and buy you some treats. It might be friendly.
22:48Animal lover Harrison has two pooches at home.
22:52A cockapoo and a golden retriever.
22:57And considers himself a bit of a dog whisperer.
23:00I got a treat.
23:02Let's see if the treat works.
23:06Here, what's this?
23:08Hello, darling.
23:14But this dog isn't one for whispering.
23:20Another treat.
23:22Another treat.
23:27Ah!
23:30The evidence and the passenger will have to wait
23:33until the specialist dog team arrives.
23:36There's probably 100, 200 quid's worth of stuff in the back.
23:39We tried to get it out of the vehicle and that's not worked, unfortunately.
23:42So we're going to have to get some specialist dog handlers here
23:45to take the dog out safely and we'll get the property out the back of it
23:48to return to the shop.
23:51The male was arrested for theft, as well as for several violent offences
23:55and he remains under investigation.
23:58The female was dealt with for theft of alcohol and recall to prison.
24:05Hello, darling.
24:07Oh!
24:09Don't shut that door.
24:11There you go.
24:13There you go.
24:21Coming up...
24:23The Op revive team.
24:25You've got a known drug dealer and I think he's making a deal.
24:29Dial M for mayhem.
24:31Get off your phone!
24:35And a birthday night out.
24:37Have you had anything to drink tonight?
24:39Doesn't end with cake and past the parcel.
24:41No, no, no. Stay back.
24:43Don't touch him!
25:01Calm down, calm down. We've got him, we've got him.
25:03Northamptonshire experiences around 2,000 drug crimes each year.
25:09We've recovered both bags of drugs.
25:13But those numbers are on the slide, thanks to Op revive.
25:17A team dedicated to weeding out violence, gang activity
25:21and drug dealing from the roots up.
25:24So it is starting to make a big impact, but it's a long game with this stuff.
25:28You've got to keep it going if we're doing it for multiple years at a time
25:31and keep arresting them and sending them back to prison.
25:34That's going to have a longer-term effect,
25:36and we're not going to be able to recruit the next groups into drug dealing
25:39and taking it on to the next generation.
25:48It's early Friday evening.
25:53People are winding down from the working week.
25:59Oh, God, why?
26:02That means things are about to ramp up for Connor Shorten and Brad Burgess.
26:07It's Friday evening.
26:09We're assuming that most of the drug dealing going on is going to be more recreational,
26:13things like cocaine and cannabis.
26:15So we're going to be targeting some of those dealers.
26:20Drug dealers are creatures of habit.
26:24This street here is where one of our big operations is focusing on.
26:28So Connor and another team make for known dealing hotspots.
26:32We're not very subtle when we go full kit,
26:35but the other guy that we've got in plainclothes,
26:38we can send him to the areas where we actually do want him to be going to,
26:42and then they can try and intercept him.
26:47Connor is a gym nut and a fan of Mai Tai,
26:50but he gets his real kicks from taking down drug dealers.
26:54And Brad spots the evening's first possible opponent.
26:58It's a Gulf.
27:00There he is.
27:03Oh, no, he's a delivery driver.
27:05We bought this guy four years ago.
27:08It's not the kind of package Connor was looking for.
27:13But across town, the other team have eyeballed a deal going down.
27:17Ah, roger. OK.
27:19What direction do you go?
27:21Connor dials up the rebs and makes for their location.
27:25You've got a known drug dealer
27:28that is in the passenger seat of a Seaflake Corsa.
27:32And he's just got out of the car and he's ran up to a drug user,
27:36so they think he's making a deal.
27:38The two teams plant a box in the car
27:41before they realise cops are on to them.
27:44We've just got to Doddington.
27:46You want us to wait here, we'll go to the traffic lights.
27:51Connor and Brad clock the Corsa coming straight for them.
27:55Yeah, it's here, mate.
27:57And they make their move.
28:04Hello, buddy. You all right?
28:06Engine off. Can you turn your engine off for a second?
28:09Right, at the minute, you are detained on section 23,
28:12the Misuse of Drugs Act, OK?
28:14We've had a car which we believe may have seen you make an exchange.
28:17OK. OK, so you are detained for a cert.
28:20Brad, get him to a locked door.
28:22A scan of the back seat comes up Trump's.
28:25Mate, there's a Class A in here, mate.
28:27At the minute, you're under arrest for possession of an intense supply
28:30of what I suspect is Class A drugs.
28:32He said you're nicked, and that means your phone's coming in too.
28:35Get off your phone. Get off your phone.
28:37Are you done? Get off your phone right now.
28:39What are you doing? Get off your phone.
28:41I'm not on the phone. Relax.
28:43Are you done? Relax. Are you done?
28:45Right, stand still. Move.
28:47Stop playing around right now.
28:49Do you understand? He's in cuffs.
28:51I'm already in cuffs, fam. What are you going to do, fam?
28:54Stop moving like that. You're under arrest, OK?
28:57Honestly, fam, I'm not going anywhere, fam.
28:59You're moving too much. We've got evidence all over the car.
29:02I don't care!
29:03The cops suspect the passengers are county lines dealers up from London.
29:07Right, so, obviously, this officer here has detained everyone.
29:10And then, well, he's not there at the minute,
29:12but the original officer's there.
29:14We've opened the door and we found Class A on the floor.
29:16So that's why you're under arrest for pee-weeks in a minute.
29:19With the driver and passengers in cuffs,
29:21Connor can inspect the evening's haul.
29:24Colleagues over in the back seat,
29:26and there's been a trouble for Class A in the back seat.
29:28So they've all been locked up straight away
29:30for possession with intent to supply Class A.
29:32The phone Connor wrestled from the passenger
29:34means he may also be able to track down others
29:37involved in the suspected deals.
29:40The one I was handcuffing, as soon as I opened her door,
29:44she went and got onto the phone and started trying to talk to someone.
29:47And for that, well, that gives them the opportunity
29:49to get rid of evidence if they start phoning people.
29:51Cos we're probably going to look to be doing Section 18s
29:54in people's addresses and limit any loss of evidence.
29:57I need them to not be on the phone because they've already been arrested.
30:01So that's why that bit of a tussle took place.
30:05Which they obviously weren't very happy about.
30:08Back at the nick, the suspects are booked.
30:11Just take a step back, mate, but still keep facing that way.
30:14And then arms out, of course.
30:16And the evidence bagged.
30:18So all the money was being kept in a cigarette pouch.
30:22I keep it in a wallet if I have any, like a normal person.
30:25The arrest has taken over £300 and more than 50 deals
30:29of suspected Class As off the streets.
30:32377 and 80p.
30:35It's a cracking start to the weekend for Connor and the team.
30:39Yeah, feeling really good. It's a nice result.
30:41We've got two people from London, not just us,
30:44plus a local guy who was driving around, so that's a good result.
30:47Normally we have to work a bit harder to try and find drugs searching a car,
30:50but it opened the door and it was right in front of us.
30:52We had a whole load of suspected crack cocaine.
30:54So it's worked really well.
31:00The crowd from the car full of suspect crack are currently under investigation
31:04for possession with intent to supply Class A.
31:08The lad in the driving seat is also under investigation
31:11for driving whilst disqualified and without insurance.
31:28Being a police officer is all about putting your faith
31:31in your colleagues and your equipment.
31:34Get on the floor!
31:36But the biggest thing you need to trust is your nose for the truth.
31:40I just want to warn you, if we do find out you've been messing us about,
31:43you'll be getting arrested for wasting police time.
31:45So tell me now, have you got a licence?
31:47No. OK, I thought so.
31:52It's quite funny when people start spinning you in your arm
31:59because you can just tell that the cogs are whirring a bit too much.
32:04We can see, basically, that they're just trying it on.
32:18It's the first breath of Sunday morning.
32:22Snooping around city streets is Scott Kimberley.
32:25Oh, here we go.
32:31Who's just clocked a Range Rover, giving it some beans.
32:36Very fruitful coming from the lights.
32:40See what the rest of his driving manners are like.
32:46Scott prefers working the evening shift,
32:49but on nights off, like today,
32:51but on nights off, like today,
32:58and his sixth sense tells him something's up with this driver.
33:07Hello, driver.
33:09The reason why I've asked you to stop is whatever happened at those traffic lights.
33:12You absolutely nailed it off those traffic lights then.
33:15Yes, you did.
33:16You put your foot down and you flew.
33:18Hello, are you OK?
33:20The car is carrying three people who've been out celebrating a birthday.
33:27Do you have your licence on you today?
33:29Oh, no.
33:31What's your name, please?
33:33Perfect. Is that how I spell your name?
33:36Yeah.
33:38I can't seem to find your driving licence at all.
33:41Scott's copper's nose is twitching and he can smell something isn't right.
33:47Have you had anything to drink tonight at all?
33:49I don't drink.
33:50You don't drink.
33:52Just because you have committed a moving traffic offence by driving in excess of the speed limit,
33:56I'm just going to require a sample of breath from you, OK?
34:00The driver says he's teetotal, so he should blow a big, fat zero.
34:05Big, deep breath. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth, good seal,
34:09and then blow until I tell you to stop, OK?
34:11OK, and blow. And blow.
34:14You need to... You're sucking. You're breathing in.
34:17You're going...
34:19Hopefully he wasn't the one blowing out the birthday candles tonight.
34:23And blow. And blow.
34:25You're breathing in. You're breathing in still.
34:27I should blow?
34:29You need to blow, yes.
34:31And then blow. Keep going, keep going, keep going. Thank you.
34:34Breathalysers are 95% accurate.
34:37Or 94% more accurate than this guy's story.
34:41You've blown a reading of 20, so you have had a drink tonight,
34:44so you are lying to me.
34:46Have I had a drink? You've had a drink tonight.
34:49Passed, which is fine. No, I'm a diabetic.
34:52But you've had alcohol tonight, so you've provided a reading of 20.
34:56Wine? Yeah, which is alcohol.
35:00So when I've said, have you had a drink tonight,
35:02you said, no, I don't drink.
35:04I'm not lying, because the drink I have, I don't think...
35:07I mean, most people don't drink, so it's his birthday.
35:10We were excited.
35:13Scott was right to go with his gut feeling.
35:15This driver's story is unravelling like a badly wrapped present.
35:19OK. Do you have your driving licence? Yeah, yeah.
35:22Why did it come from one of your friends at the back?
35:25After claiming to not have his licence, it magically appeared.
35:30And when Scott checks it against police databases,
35:33the birthday celebration's come to an end.
35:36OK.
35:38At this moment in time, you're under arrest for driving whilst disqualified
35:41and driving with no insurance, OK?
35:43It's all right. Yeah, because you can't have insurance if you're disqualified.
35:47So at this moment in time, you're under arrest for driving whilst disqualified
35:50and driving with no insurance.
35:52Driving whilst disqualified and with no insurance
35:55means the party wagon will be seized and the driver taken into custody.
35:59Do you have anything on you at all that may harm myself or anyone else?
36:05And his mates aren't too happy about it.
36:08If I can just ask you just to stay back for us, please.
36:13Sorry? No, you don't.
36:16Sorry?
36:18I don't need to tell you because he's an adult.
36:20I can't tell you because he's an adult, OK?
36:23If I can just ask you to take a step back for us...
36:27No, no.
36:31Stay back. Just stay back.
36:33No, you...
36:35You're approaching me. You're approaching me.
36:38You were. You were taking steps forward.
36:41This is what you caught in here.
36:43Calm down, calm down, calm down.
36:45Scott is single-crewed and soon has his hands full.
36:49We have no way of taking my brother.
36:51Take a step back. Take a step back.
36:53Take a step back.
36:55I can't tell you because he's an adult.
36:57If he wants to tell you, he can do.
36:59No, you can't.
37:01Because you're coming...
37:03You're coming... Stay back.
37:05Stay back. Stay back.
37:07Take a step back.
37:09Yes, ideally, yes.
37:11Are you going to the police station?
37:13You can go on to the other side of the road.
37:15I just want you to stay away from me.
37:17The two lads finally get the message and leave.
37:21And when his blue light taxi arrives...
37:24He's going to come this way for us.
37:26..the driver is off to the nick.
37:37And he may need another drink by the end of the evening.
37:41All right, this is interesting, then.
37:45Scott's discovered that the driver gave him his mate's licence
37:48and he isn't disqualified from driving at all.
37:52I'm not banned.
37:54No, you're not banned.
37:56If you're who you say you are now, you're not banned.
37:58You're a provisional licence holder.
38:00By failing to produce his provisional licence
38:03and using his mate's instead,
38:05he's now facing a more serious charge.
38:07Obstructing the police.
38:09Next time, if you are who you say you are now,
38:13just tell us that at the roadside
38:15so we can deal with that at the roadside.
38:17We don't have to come to custody.
38:19You've just made... You've made the process ten times worse
38:22through your own actions.
38:25As well as costing hours of Scott's time,
38:28the driver's porkies have cost him a dating court.
38:32From the moment he wound up in his window
38:34and I started speaking to him,
38:36I don't think he's really given me an honest answer to anything.
38:39I've lost track of the amount of lies that he's stated,
38:42but we now know who he is,
38:44and he'll have to explain to the magistrates
38:46why he couldn't tell us the truth.
38:48If he'd just told us the truth,
38:50it would have been so much easier for both him and me.
38:56The teetotal time waster pleaded guilty to driving without a licence
39:00or insurance and obstructing the police.
39:03He was ordered to pay £253 and got six points
39:07and missed the after party.
39:14Coming up, an overloaded motor...
39:17OK, so you've got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
39:20eight people in the car, yeah?
39:22..adds up to a whole lot of trouble for this driver.
39:24You're going to risk losing your licence, I'll be honest with you.
39:31HE SIGHS
39:42Carrying passengers safely is a simple equation.
39:46The number of seatbelts equals the number of people.
39:51But maths isn't a strong point for some road users,
39:54and every year, thousands are nicked
39:56for dangerously overloading their vehicles.
40:01I've had occasions where you'll get groups of young people
40:04who will just pile into a car,
40:06you'll have people in the boot, people lying across laps,
40:10and then when you open the car,
40:12it's like the old cartoons with the clown cars,
40:15with people just getting out,
40:17and you kind of stood there in amazement sometimes.
40:20You know, as a driver, you've got to make sure you're...
40:25..responsible for the safety of everybody in your car,
40:28so, yeah, things can go wrong quite quickly
40:31when you haven't got a seatbelt on, that's for sure.
40:48It's late morning on a Sunday.
40:52While stuck in traffic...
40:54There are people in that car.
40:56..Arison Beverley clocks a car packed with people.
41:02Putting his foot to the floor,
41:04he soon catches up with the Ford Focus.
41:11But even with the blues and twos on...
41:14What are you doing?
41:17..he's struggling to make his presence known to the driver.
41:20Turn your engine off.
41:22Sorry?
41:23Turn your engine off.
41:24Sorry?
41:25Turn your engine off.
41:27Several people are crammed in the back of the mid-sized motor.
41:31No preclaration.
41:33Are you actually being serious?
41:36What? Are you being serious?
41:38Look at that.
41:40No! No!
41:42No. Driver's licence, please.
41:44That is so... Do you know how dangerous that is?
41:47The driver's smiling, but this is no laughing matter.
41:50How many children have you got on there?
41:53OK, so you've got one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
41:56eight people in the car, yeah?
41:58You're going to get a ticket for all three children.
42:01Come and have a chat with me.
42:06Overloading your car by more than 30% can land you in court.
42:10And when Harrison takes a closer look inside,
42:13the driver's problems keep mounting up.
42:16Oh, there's four children.
42:18Ah, even worse. OK.
42:20No, no, it's four of them.
42:22Four children? So there's four, five, six.
42:25The only spare seat is in the boot.
42:28It might be funny, but where are you going to put car seats?
42:31On the roof of the car?
42:33Nine people are packed into a car that can legally carry five.
42:37And seven of them are on the back seat.
42:40If you crash, is that a good idea?
42:42As a driver of the car, it's your responsibility to make sure
42:46that children are wearing seatbelts.
42:52On average, four unbelted children die or are seriously injured
42:56in a road accident every week.
43:00In all seriousness, if you have a crash,
43:03where do you think the children are going?
43:05Straight through, into the back of seats?
43:08You're going to risk losing your licence, I'll be honest with you.
43:13After five years on the force,
43:15Harrison's pet peeves are drunk or disqualified drivers.
43:1913, 12, 7 and 6, thank you.
43:24But ones that put children at risk like this
43:27are also high up on the list.
43:29I think you all really need to have a chat with yourselves
43:32and look at what's going on.
43:34I think you all really need to have a chat with yourselves
43:37and look at how you're managing the safety of your children.
43:40You might be the best driver in the world,
43:42but if someone comes up to you and hits you head on...
43:45Over the past five decades, seatbelts have saved 375,000 lives.
43:51But around 8% of people still don't wear them on British roads.
43:57I'm a bit lost for words, to be honest with you.
44:00Nine people in one car, four children not wearing seatbelts.
44:03It's beyond a joke, to be honest.
44:05It's just dangerous.
44:07He can go to court and relish to all four offences.
44:10He's going to risk losing his licence now.
44:14The TARDIS driver was reported for four seatbelt offences
44:18and was ordered to pay £636 in fines and costs.
44:24Yeah, yeah, you can go. You've signed up.
44:26Thank you. Please don't do it again.
44:28Yeah.
44:30Please stop doing it.
44:32It's OK.
44:59The TARDIS.
