Success for Ellesmere Heronwatch as New Camera System on way!
Transcript
00:00We've had a huge campaign, we've had a crowdfunding campaign to raise a large sum of money to
00:06replace the whole camera system. It's the cameras, it's the infrastructure that go with
00:11it, it's the screens behind me, the whole thing is going to be replaced. They're ten
00:15years old, many of the cameras are broken, they're poor quality. Ten years ago cameras
00:20were very different by today's standards, they don't give very good images. So we're
00:25looking forward to having a new modern system, right up to date. We're going to have two
00:30cameras outside, oh sorry, four cameras outside. We're going to have two cameras that can be
00:34controlled, moved around. They'll be pretty near water level, so they'll be good for watching
00:39other wildlife, ducks and geese and more hens and so on, or indeed anything else you want
00:45to look at. But also then we'll have two little nest boxes as well for the small birds, so
00:52the blue tits. The whole project starts in the middle of February and you try finding
01:00a family attraction that starts that early in the year. It's easy bird watching, it's
01:07for all ages, all abilities. It's indoors, there's an expert on hand to tell you what
01:13you're looking at and help you look at it, and there's tea and coffee if you want it.
01:19One of the joys of Heron Watch is that it's for everybody, from little old ladies who
01:24come once a week to say, how are my herons getting on? They just take it on board, they
01:30love it. And children, many children don't know that herons actually nest in trees because
01:36they're such big birds. But they look out of the window, they see a heron coming to
01:41the island, and then they can see it land on a nest on the screens, and it's just so
01:47exciting.
