22 January - National weather forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey.

00:00Hello there, hope you're enjoying your Sunday so far. We certainly saw a contrast in our
00:05temperatures first thing this morning. For those in the south east it was rather frosty,
00:10down to almost minus ten Celsius in parts of Oxfordshire. Meanwhile further to the north
00:15and west temperatures didn't drop below nine degrees Celsius underneath the expanse of
00:19cloud we had here overnight. That cloud is going to remain pretty much in place, particularly
00:24for southwest Scotland down to Irish Sea coastal areas where we'll see outbreaks of patchy
00:29rain and drizzle throughout the day. Perhaps some brighter skies eventually developing
00:33for the western and northern hours as the winds ease off here. But the best of the sunshine
00:37will be across the south and east but that'll be once any freezing fog patches do clear
00:41their way off and they could just still linger for a time throughout the first part of this
00:45afternoon. It is going to remain fairly cold in the south and east though, climbing to
00:50highs of four or five degrees Celsius where the fog does persist. Some areas may not see
00:55much higher than zero or one degrees Celsius. Further to the north and west look at that
01:00highs of eleven degrees Celsius for some coastal districts up here. As we move into the overnight
01:06periods those outbreaks of rain and drizzle are going to remain in fairly similar locations
01:10so if it's been damp by day it will probably be damp by night. The driest conditions across
01:15the south and east where we hold on to some clearer skies but that will allow the fog
01:19to then reform into the early hours of Monday morning and they could be quite dense in places.
01:26The temperatures will drop off quite rapidly once again and a sharp frost in the south
01:30and east down to minus eight Celsius in those prone rural locations again. Meanwhile staying
01:35milder further to the north and west lows of seven to eight degrees Celsius for Northern
01:41Ireland and Scotland. Into Monday then the cloud does persist again for north and western
01:46locations. Some brighter intervals possible for northern parts of Scotland and into Northern
01:51Ireland but we will see further expanses of particularly low cloud pushing their way
01:55into the western isles and some more persistent rain for Shetland later on. Also some further
02:00cloud pushing into Kent and areas of East Anglia so it will be this central slice of
02:05England that sees the best of the sunshine again once the freezing fog patches do eventually
02:10ease their way off into the afternoon. Temperatures we're still going to see that north west south
02:15east split so it is going to remain relatively cold in the south east but stay milder once
02:20again reaching double digit figures in the north and west. A similar situation as we
02:25move into the evening period but now that we've got the cloud in the far south east
02:29that will just hold off the frost potentially a bit more here and it will be that central
02:34slice of England into areas of eastern Wales where temperatures will drop off a bit more.
02:39Certainly where we've got the cloud breaking up a bit across northern areas of England
02:42there is still a patchy frost possible but towns and cities may hold up around low single
02:47figures. Into the rest of the week that cloud in the north and west is slowly going to push
02:53its way further towards the south along with this frontal system so eventually we will
02:57see those greyer skies but also milder air pushing into the south. Behind the cold front
03:03though we see the winds switching round to a northerly direction so that means that temperatures
03:07will just probably drop off a bit more for Scotland and northern Ireland. Not too cold
03:12though more around average for the time of year compared to the mild conditions we've
03:16seen this weekend. You can keep up to date with the full forecast for the forthcoming
03:21week by following us on all of our social media channels and we'll be back with you
03:25again shortly. Bye bye.
