00:00Hello again. We've started the day with perhaps the most widespread cloud and outbreaks of
00:05rain of the week so far, and we keep a lot of cloud with further rain in places during
00:10the afternoon. But it will brighten up, especially in the south and the west. However, there
00:15is the chance in one or two spots of some particularly heavy downpours and thunderstorms.
00:20Now, the radar and satellite from earlier today really tells a story. You can see this
00:25spiralling band of rain sweeping across the country, and you can almost make out the centre
00:31of the low pressure there pushing through central areas. And it's in that area which
00:36will sink ever so slightly south this afternoon where the greatest risk of some really potent
00:42downpours will be. Otherwise, these bands of rain, they're slow moving. They will bring
00:46further cloud and rain in places during the afternoon, so from west to north Wales into
00:52much of northern England, as well as parts of north-east Scotland staying cloudy and
00:56damp, some showery bits and pieces elsewhere across Scotland, one or two showers for northern
01:00Ireland, and the potential for a few showers as the main area of rain clears, east Anglia
01:05and the south-east. They'll move through fairly quickly, but it's this area here within north
01:12and mid Wales, north-west Midlands around parts of northern England where there is that
01:17threat of some very heavy showers and thunderstorms and hail developing during the afternoon.
01:23It's all dependent on whether we get some cloud breaks and then temperatures get a bit
01:27of a boost. So, some uncertainty, but that's where the potential risk lies. Otherwise,
01:33some decent sunny spells there towards the south-west of England, as well as northern
01:37Ireland and western Scotland, mainly dry in these places. Many places, though, much cooler
01:44compared to yesterday, more than 10 degrees, perhaps 15 degrees cooler across some of these
01:49north-east coasts. You can see that northerly wind bringing much cooler air in, 12, 13 Celsius
01:55at best, compare that to the mid-20s that we saw in north-east England during Thursday
02:00afternoon. 22 in London, any sunny spells, and we keep clear spells into the evening
02:05for the south-east, for parts of the north-west as well, and in these areas temperatures will
02:10dip into the single figures, but otherwise they hold up, double figures generally, a
02:14lot of cloud. Low cloud continues to feed into eastern Scotland with some damp weather
02:18here. Showers elsewhere for the Midlands, Wales, into the south-west. And through the
02:23weekend the main trend is for this low pressure to sink south, and it will then stick around
02:30to the south of the UK early next week, whilst high pressure builds in to the north. So,
02:35although we'll start off the weekend with a lot of cloud cover and further bits and
02:40pieces of mainly light rain for eastern Scotland and the far north-east of England, well it
02:44will tend to dry up in the north, whilst further south, sunny spells, yes, through Saturday
02:49afternoon, but ongoing showers, especially south-west England, Wales, through the Midlands,
02:54parts of East Anglia. These won't be as heavy or as thundery as Friday's potential showers.
03:02And in the sunny spells, temperatures reaching 22 Celsius, but still on the cool side further
03:07north. However, there is a warming trend across northern parts of the UK for later
03:11in the weekend, with a bit more sunshine coming through here. But you can see the return of
03:16some showery rain towards the south on Saturday evening, and well, Sunday looks fairly unsettled
03:22across southern parts of the UK, particularly later in the day, and particularly for the
