00:00You remember me telling you that joke, right?
00:03No.
00:04Seriously?
00:05Well, you tell a lot of jokes.
00:08Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:09And today we're looking at the best friends bloopers
00:11where Matthew Perry went out of his way to make the cast break.
00:14Let's make sure he's okay.
00:20Well, I personally think it's great you're giving yourself a break.
00:22Well, thank you, Pheebs.
00:27Number 20. Where can we find her?
00:29Okay, well, where do you think she'll be? Where can we find her?
00:31It's natural to poke back when you're around someone who usually pokes fun at you.
00:35Courtney Cox grabbed her opportunity when Matthew Perry messed up the delivery of his line.
00:39Within the context of the episode,
00:41Monica and Chandler discuss looking for the latter's ex-girlfriend
00:44so that Chandler can apologize for how he treated her.
00:47Okay, I will do it, but I have to warn you,
00:49this may make me a better person, and that is not the man you fell in love with.
00:53The actor's interaction is far less intense than the scripted exchange would have you believe.
00:57When setting up the scene, Cox mocks her co-star's odd choice of delivery.
01:03Perry then decides to lean into it,
01:05following up with a take that's even more exaggerated.
01:18Sometimes the jokes write themselves.
01:20So can you blame a natural comedian like Matthew Perry?
01:23In this episode, Joey tries to conceal his new job at Central Perk from his friends.
01:33His attempts are painfully obvious, which is where the humor is.
01:36However, the blooper offers its own brand of comedy.
01:39Joey lets out a nervous laugh after he tries to discreetly wait on a table in front of his friends,
01:44but Matt LeBlanc keeps having to redo the scene.
01:47Sometimes it's because he's unhappy with his own performance,
01:50but to his credit, it's not all on him.
01:53When LeBlanc finally gets it right,
01:55Perry's quick to fill in the take with an imitation of the actor's previous gaffes.
02:02And just like that, he bags the biggest laugh.
02:08While bloopers give us a peek into behind-the-scenes content,
02:11they don't show us every detail.
02:21That's what you get for making me start all over.
02:24As it appears, Courtney Cox seems to have made Matthew Perry start the scene over before.
02:29Because of this, he's out for revenge.
02:32The actual scene follows Monica and Chandler as they argue about their plans.
02:36Chandler, we said we would meet at the coffeehouse at 6.
02:39We said 7.
02:41We said 6.
02:43The only way that I said 6 would be if I said the sentence,
02:46let's meet at 7, not at 6.
02:49No matter the circumstance, Chandler would never call Monica any truly horrible names.
02:54But there's no Chandler in this blooper.
02:56It is all Matthew Perry,
02:58catching Cox and everyone else completely off-guard.
03:01Perry throws out some choice words that cause chaos on set.
03:05It's of course all in good fun and clearly demonstrates the close friendship the actors had.
03:12Ruining a scene with something as silly as a cough
03:14means that you are in for it with Matthew Perry around.
03:17During the scene, Monica, Chandler and Ross talk to Joey about his new roommate Janine,
03:22highlighting all the reasons it's a bad idea for Joey to date someone he's living with.
03:26Thank you for bringing her into our lives.
03:29Unbelievable.
03:32Oh, so you like her too, Chandler?
03:34Hey, look at all the box.
03:35They had already had to reset after Courtney Cox messed up her line,
03:38so when David Schwimmer just can't hold in his cough, all bets are off.
03:42Oh, oh, you're right.
03:47Perry pokes fun at his co-star in the next take,
03:49highlighting his rendition of Schwimmer's cough to hilarious effect.
03:53That's when I make my move.
04:00Forget it, okay? Forget it.
04:02You told her you love her. It's over.
04:04It is not over. You're over.
04:08What?
04:09When Chandler and Joey lived in Monica and Rachel's apartment,
04:12the guys had a habit of putting on quite a spread.
04:15Think it's easy acting with food in your mouth? It isn't.
04:18While filming a scene, Courtney Cox finds herself choking mid-sentence,
04:22blaming it on the popcorn the cast is snacking on during the scene.
04:25It is not over. You're over.
04:30I got popcorn in my throat.
04:32The botched moment surprises everyone, most of all Matthew Perry.
04:36He clearly saw the potential in carrying the joke forward,
04:39and as soon as action is called the next time around,
04:41he delivers a spit-take for the ages.
04:44And action!
04:51Oh, this is going well.
04:54Here's how I know you didn't watch the tape, okay?
04:56If you had seen what was on this tape, believe me,
04:59you would have some comments.
05:01Even excess swearing would have gotten you made fun of by Matthew Perry.
05:04In this episode, Joey accuses Chandler of lying about watching his commercial tape,
05:09and then showcases the tape to prove as much.
05:12When Matt LeBlanc keeps having technical issues,
05:14he lets out a few curses here and there.
05:16If you had seen what was on this tape, believe me,
05:19you would have some comments.
05:21Piece of shit. Get in there.
05:23By the time things are finally going smoothly, however,
05:26Perry ruins it by rivaling LeBlanc's potty mouth with a few choice words of his own.
05:31Okay, here's how I know you're lying.
05:33How, you f***ing a**.
05:37It might mean one more retake,
05:39but at least everyone gets a good laugh out of it.
05:43Not so secret affair.
05:44I hope Ross didn't think we just went in there because we were uncomfortable being out here.
05:55I hope he did.
05:56Chandler and Joey are best friends,
05:58but they also behave like an old married couple.
06:01You know what? I'm sorry.
06:02I really shouldn't have said that you were embarrassing me.
06:04I mean, that really wasn't cool.
06:06These undertones were not lost on Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc,
06:09who almost make this pairing canon.
06:11Before Ross's wedding, he and Monica argue in the hotel room,
06:14and Chandler and Joey escape to the bathroom to avoid being the awkward witness.
06:18Now they're the awkward eavesdroppers.
06:20I'm gonna go to the bathroom.
06:21Wait up!
06:24Hey, hey.
06:25Since you're the fix-it lady, here's a pickle.
06:28What do you do when the bride says she doesn't want to have the wedding at all?
06:33While Chandler doesn't want people thinking anything other than that is going on,
06:36Perry and LeBlanc do not mind.
06:38In the blooper, the co-stars emerge from the bathroom,
06:41having each forgone one rather important piece of clothing.
06:44Why? What's the matter?
06:47With baby co-stars, you never really know what you're in for.
06:51An actor needs to go with the flow in these instances,
06:54which Perry flawlessly demonstrates.
06:56What am I gonna do now?
06:57Just pass the tape along.
06:59He's not right for the part,
07:00so if I suggest to my bosses, they're gonna think I'm an idiot.
07:03And that's something they should learn on their own.
07:05Unsure about an issue regarding Joey,
07:07Chandler seeks Rachel out for advice.
07:09Within the Friends universe, Emma lets her mother do the talking.
07:12In the real world, though,
07:14the child actress interrupts Jennifer Aniston's dialogue.
07:17Well, just tell Joey that you like the tape.
07:19And your boss, right?
07:22Just tell Joey that...
07:28I know she's cute, but I really could use some advice.
07:30While Aniston thinks she's cute like the rest of us,
07:33Perry isn't willing to let it slide.
07:35Just as much as his usual style of comedy,
07:37Perry shines at deadpan humor as well.
07:56Most of Monica and Chandler's relationship progressed without complications.
07:59However, the events preceding Chandler's proposal couldn't have been worse.
08:04I'm Chandler. I make jokes when I'm uncomfortable.
08:06After interrupting their dinner date,
08:08Richard shows up at Monica's workplace, hoping to get her back.
08:11It's a big twist that appropriately ends in a cliffhanger.
08:14However, things were completely different behind the scenes.
08:17Rather than let the shock sink in,
08:19Matthew Perry bursts in to confront his rival while in character.
08:22Came here to tell you I still love you.
08:25What the f*** are you doing?
08:27What the f*** are you doing?
08:31Since this is the last thing the audience expected,
08:34Perry's improv draws a massive response that seeps all the tension away.
08:48It might not look like it,
08:50but every scene filmed on a TV show normally takes place on the same set.
08:54The actor is usually close by even when their character is supposed to be someplace else.
08:58In this clip, Joey is supposed to be looking for Chandler,
09:01with Monica explaining his whereabouts.
09:03After a few flubbed takes courtesy of Courtney Cox,
09:06Matthew Perry takes on Joey's role,
09:08nailing his distinct hammy delivery in everything.
09:13With Cox and Lisa Kudrow expecting no one but LeBlanc,
09:16it is surprise laughter all around.
09:18The best might just be LeBlanc's anticipatory reaction in the hallway.
09:24For whatever reason, guys seem to have an obsession with the size of certain things.
09:29Apparently, Matthew Perry was no exception.
09:31On at least two separate occasions,
09:33Perry can be heard beckoning Monica to come see what he's just deposited in the bathroom.
09:37You guys gonna come see this one.
09:39It's certainly not something that they would ever air as part of an episode of the show.
09:43You girls got a measuring tape?
09:45But for the actors and the live studio audience,
09:48it's certainly a fun opportunity to give a few extra laughs.
09:51And no, Chandler, we don't need to see it. Thanks.
10:06Number 9. Falling for Rachel
10:08Say what you want about the Joey and Rachel romance,
10:11but it did give us a great little blooper courtesy of our favorite sarcastic friend.
10:21Good for you, that was good for me, Rachel.
10:23The scene involved Joey leaning on Rachel's door in the hallway after learning she has feelings for him.
10:29Rachel opens the door, and Joey falls to the floor.
10:43Well known for inserting himself into scenes he was not a part of,
10:47Perry stands at the door and falls as Rachel opens the door.
10:50Causing everyone in the scene to break.
10:53It's a cute little blooper that shows just how much of a prankster Perry could really be.
11:02Number 8. Have you looked in the mirror?
11:04For a short period of time, Chandler and Monica had to work through a long distance relationship
11:09as Chandler had accepted a job in Tulsa.
11:11So, when he came home on weekends, they naturally wanted to spend as much time as they could together.
11:17Hoping for some private time alone, Chandler secretly flies home and lies to Joey about it.
11:22Because I didn't know how to tell him that I couldn't go to the Knicks game,
11:25so I just told him I had to stay in Tulsa.
11:27So you lied to him?
11:28It's always better to lie than to have the complicated discussion.
11:32This leads to an entire plot around Joey thinking Monica is cheating because of how she's dressed.
11:37When she tells Chandler that Joey thinks she's a, let's say, promiscuous woman, Perry retorted,
11:43Have you looked in the mirror?
11:44His joke is met by both laughs and some somber ohs from the audience.
11:51Number 7. Putting out fire.
11:53In some ways, we think this episode should have been called the one where Monica fires Joey.
11:58Upset that her co-workers don't take her seriously,
12:01Monica hires Joey for the purposes of firing him in front of everyone to show them who's boss.
12:06Why don't you fire me?
12:09That's a good idea. Do you know how to waiter?
12:12Good enough to get fired.
12:15Alright, you're hired.
12:17The scheme ultimately works, but not before Perry once again inserted himself into a scene he was not in.
12:23Monica's uniform is supposed to catch fire slightly,
12:26which Joey pats out with his hand on one side of her chest.
12:29Whoa, whoa.
12:30What are you doing?
12:31You're still a tiny bit on fire there.
12:33Oh, good job. Thanks.
12:35I think you got it.
12:37Perry runs in from off camera and playfully pats out the other side of her uniform
12:41before ducking out back behind frame.
12:43You're still a tiny bit on fire there.
12:45Oh, geez. Okay. Thanks. Okay.
12:53It's a funny bit that shows us how comfortable these actors were with each other.
12:57Number 6. At the camera.
12:59The fourth wall is a term used in television and film
13:03that refers to an imaginary barrier that exists between the scene unfolding in a play,
13:07movie or episode and the audience watching.
13:09I can't believe Emma's still asleep.
13:11I know. What are we going to do?
13:13The characters never look beyond this wall
13:15because they're not supposed to know they're being watched by an audience.
13:18In this clip, Courtney Cox accidentally looks directly at the camera and then realizes her mistake.
13:23She should be out in a couple days.
13:26I can't believe. I just looked right at you. I'm so sorry.
13:31I just gave a little double take to the camera.
13:33When they do the next take, Matthew Perry amplified her mistake purposefully,
13:36which brings a pile of laughs.
13:38And even another blooper featuring Matt LeBlanc doing something similar.
13:42I can't believe Emma's still asleep.
13:44I know. What are we going to do?
13:51Number 5. Somber boys.
13:53Directors often have a vision for a particular scene or episode
13:57and offer notes to the actors in order to try and fulfill that vision.
14:01During one scene in season 3's The One with the Morning After,
14:04Joey and Chandler barge into Monica's bedroom in a panic when they hear screaming.
14:14In the gag reel, immediately following that take,
14:17we hear the director ask the two boys to dial it back a little.
14:25So when they call action and the boys enter,
14:27Perry and LeBlanc come in all somber and calm asking the girls what happened.
14:35We can't imagine what it was like directing these goofballs.
14:39Number 4. Bingo Bango.
14:41Remember when Monica and Mike had their ping-pong competition in Barbados?
14:44Well, it turns out there were all kinds of bloopers during that scene.
14:47Courtney Cox tripped up a few times,
14:49including a moment where she yells out,
14:51as she's supposed to hit a ball.
14:53She realizes her mistake and they go to do another take.
14:57This, of course, opens the door for Matthew Perry to step in for his own laughs.
15:01As they call action and Monica swings,
15:03Perry blurts out some kind of gibberish which, of course, ruins the take.
15:09It gets even better the next time,
15:11when Cox accidentally throws her paddle.
15:14Number 3. Huge.
15:16The decision for Chandler and Monica to purchase a home to raise their kids outside the city
15:20was one that came as a surprise to all of us.
15:28As the two discuss whether or not to buy the home,
15:30they both recognize how big of a deal this is.
15:33They're not going to buy the house,
15:35but they're going to buy the house.
15:37They're not going to buy the house,
15:39but they're going to buy the house.
15:41They both recognize how big of a decision it is,
15:44and how it's going to affect their friends.
15:46The conversation audiences saw had Monica saying,
15:49This is huge.
15:50In an outtake for the scene, though,
15:52she accidentally says,
15:53It's huge.
15:54Which was the perfect cue for Matthew Perry to allude to something else.
15:57I think we should.
15:58I do too.
15:59Oh my God.
16:00It's huge.
16:01Thanks.
16:02It is yet another great example of Perry's unmatched improbability.
16:07Number 2. We know already.
16:10After having been trapped in Monica's bedroom
16:12while Ross and Rachel fight over whether they were on a break,
16:15Monica, Phoebe, Joey, and Chandler are getting hungry.
16:17We could eat the wax. It's organic.
16:21Oh, great. Food with hair on it.
16:23In a cut scene from the episode,
16:25Courtney Cox has a line where she tells everyone
16:27she has chocolate bars in her purse in the kitchen.
16:29She does this line several times,
16:31but keeps getting asked to do it again.
16:33Watch your hand.
16:34Tell me with the notice.
16:35Okay, good, because I keep doing it the same way.
16:37When she says the line one last time,
16:39Perry chimed in with one of his signature sarcastic quips.
16:42I've got two Clark bars.
16:43We know already.
16:45Since the final edit of the episode excluded this scene,
16:48we're guessing they never did get it right.

17:06Number one, Joey's fall.
17:09Joey finally gets his big break
17:11and is featured in an issue of Soap Opera Digest.
17:14Ever so excited to show someone,
17:16he bursts into Central Park and shows it off to Phoebe.
17:19Phoebs, check it out, check it out, check it out, check it out.
17:22Oh, oh, Soap Opera Digest.
17:24Oh, that's one of my favorite digests.
17:27Page 42, page 42, page 42.
17:29Okay, okay.
17:30But Matt LeBlanc struggled to get the scene right several times.
17:33On one occasion, he straight up face plants.
17:36On another, he looks at his mark on the floor.
17:39By the time he finally gets to his chair,
17:41it falls over.
17:43Check it out, check it out, check it out, check it out.
17:47Jesus.
17:51Like a problem.
17:52As highlighted in the Friends The Reunion special,
17:55Matthew Perry wasn't even in the scene,
17:57but mocked his co-star's failures by crashing the scene
18:00that might have finally been LeBlanc's good take.
18:02And the final time you came in.
18:04Because I was like, somebody's getting a laugh,
18:06I can't handle it.
18:08I need to get a laugh too.
18:10It is pure comedy gold,
18:12which we are so thankful to be able to see behind the scenes.
18:15Soap Opera Digest.
18:21Could there be any more Matthew Perry bloopers
18:23you think are hilarious?
18:24Let us know in the comments.
18:26You know.
18:30Okay.
18:33Good one.
