00:00A great result has come in Madhya Pradesh-Kashmir
00:03where Umar Abdullah led the National Conference
00:06and the alliance of Congress
00:09has won a majority. BJP has lost.
00:12This alliance has taken 49 seats. BJP has 32 seats.
00:15Saat is independent. Awaam Aadmi Party has taken one seat.
00:19So, now Umar Abdullah's government will be formed.
00:22Let's see what effect it will have.
00:25Can statehood come back
00:27after the Modi government's victory in Kashmir?
00:31Can Pakistan's relations improve?
00:34Can Pakistan play a constructive role in Kashmir?
00:37One thought is that Umar Abdullah
00:40was not as close to the establishment
00:43or different successive governments
00:46as he was with other Kashmiri leaders.
00:49We will talk about this.
00:52He was more of a seasoned politician
00:55and a solid international expert.
00:58Mushahid Hussain Syed, former senator
01:01and chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.
01:04Assalam-o-Alaikum, Mr. Shah.
01:06Assalam-o-Alaikum, Mr. Malik.
01:08And welcome to the new channel. It's a pleasure to talk to you.
01:11Thank you. Always a pleasure, Mr. Shah.
01:13Sir, this election has won.
01:16It was a good development in Madhya Pradesh-Kashmir.
01:20Can statehood come back after this?
01:23What happened after this?
01:26This election was very important.
01:29This was the first election when they
01:32forcibly annexed Makboozah-Kashmir on 5th August 2019.
01:35And a kind of referendum was formed
01:38between Hindutva and Kashmiriyat.
01:41And Modi said, I am a test case, I will try my best.
01:44He also delimited it.
01:47He also did Pakistani-style pre-polling.
01:50But he failed miserably.
02:20Umar Abdullah also said that
02:23statehood will be our first priority.
02:26All legal and political aspects will be taken care of.
02:29And I think we are heading towards
02:32reversal of August 5, 2019.
02:35And statehood will come back.
02:38BJP has won 29 seats.
02:41This is their best showing to date.
02:44So they are seeing that
02:47BJP has won more seats than India.
02:50And they have more seats in the areas
02:53where they had formed Hindu majority constituencies.
02:56So that split has become deeper.
02:59Can BJP see this as a partial victory?
03:02BJP has found a small foothold
03:05in their core Hindu area.
03:08And they have tried a lot for that.
03:11And they have tried a lot for that.
03:14And they have tried a lot for that.
03:17Like I said, they increased the number of seats
03:20by 6 seats in the delimitation.
03:23They have given domicile to 4.2 million people.
03:26Voter's list has been revised.
03:29So they have done all the work
03:32that the Election Commission does.
03:35But despite that, their desire
03:38to become the government of BJP
03:41or the Chief Minister of BJP
03:44was not possible.
03:47So this split has become more evident
03:50in Makhbooza Kashmir.
03:53From a religious, political and ideological point of view.
03:56But why do you think that statehood
03:59can come back?
04:02Delhi will ignore it.
04:05Hindutva's fathers are sitting there.
04:08What pressure can they put?
04:11How will they make it happen?
04:14Their pressure is that Modi has another big setback.
04:17Modi did not win the election.
04:20303 seats in Lok Sabha.
04:23This time 400 seats.
04:26He got 240 seats.
04:29And a coalition government.
04:32Modi is at his weakest in the last 10 years.
04:35Kashmiri freedom struggle
04:38and armed struggle
04:41has been strengthened
04:44in the last year.
04:47In the valley and Jammu.
04:50There is a lot of pressure on them.
04:53This pressure is in Punjab as well.
04:56The Khalistan movement has been revived.
04:59The pressure is in the North-East.
05:02They will defuse the pressure.
05:05Pakistan is becoming a member
05:08of the UN Security Council.
05:11Our focus will be on Kashmir.
05:14The right of self-determination.
05:17To deflect the pressure.
05:20Kashmir is Indian Union territory.
05:23The left-wing governor is the boss there.
05:26They will be a glorified municipal boss.
05:29The real power is the executive power.
05:32The left-wing governor is appointed by New Delhi.
05:35To deflect the pressure.
05:38I think they will do this.
05:41This is not a difficult option.
05:44The territory is in their hands.
05:47The government is in their hands.
05:50The people who do not talk about freedom.
05:53It will suit them.
05:56The international pressure will be reduced.
05:59What can Pakistan do?
06:02Like I said in the beginning.
06:05Our relations with the rest of the world.
06:08Pakistan matters a lot.
06:11When we talk to the people of Kashmir.
06:14They rely a lot on Pakistan.
06:17We have never seen Umar Abdullah
06:20as sympathetic as the rest of the world.
06:23Will Pakistan play a diminished role?
06:26Or can we take advantage of it?
06:29To help out Kashmiris.
06:32There are 2-3 aspects.
06:35I do not know Umar Abdullah.
06:38But I have a good friend with him.
06:41Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
06:44He is a very intelligent man.
06:47He has good thoughts about Pakistan.
06:50I do not know if he is pro-Pakistan or anti-Indian.
06:53But he has positive thoughts.
06:56When Umar Abdullah came to Pakistan.
06:59During the time of General Musharraf.
07:02We told him to look at new options.
07:05He has good thoughts.
07:08Umar Abdullah knows.
07:11He is representing anti-status quo forces.
07:14He has a national conference.
07:17He is not only a member of the Congress.
07:20He is a member of the Kashmiri people.
07:23He does not like India.
07:26But he believes that BJP's opposition is important.
07:29He will appeal to that constituency.
07:32Pakistan needs strategic clarity.
07:35Our policy has been zigzagged.
07:38There have been ups and downs.
07:41Sometimes we say that Modi is the best person for us.
07:44Then we send a message for Modi.
07:47In the past, there was a bordering on appeasement policy.
07:50We need strategic clarity.
07:53We need to put international pressure.
07:56We have a platform for the next two years.
07:59We are a member of the UN Security Council.
08:02Pakistan should say that we had a stand.
08:05In Indian occupied Kashmir.
08:08People reject Indian status quo.
08:11Our stand has been vindicated.
08:14Let's move on.
08:17If you link it with the Palestine cause.
08:20There has been a positive opinion.
08:23Towards Palestinian self-determination.
08:26In America and Europe.
08:29If we have a smart, sophisticated and sustained policy.
08:32We can revive the Kashmiri cause.
08:35And change the status quo.
08:38If Pakistan becomes a member of the Security Council.
08:41If the movement moves.
08:44Will the Umar Abdullah government.
08:47Stay within the borders and not violate them?
08:50Can they cast a support to Pakistan?
08:53For the right of self-determination.
08:56There is a midway point.
08:59Between the freedom of expression.
09:02And the right of self-determination.
09:05There is a midway point between Azadi, who is talking about the right of self-determination and the maximum autonomy, which is called Mukhtari.
09:15So, during that midway point, there will be sympathetic voices in Makbooza Kashmir, including National Conference, including Umar Abdullah,
09:25who has seen the worst of Hindutva.
09:27And he has seen that this is a very smelly kind of fascism, and based on division, contradiction, and corruption,
09:35which is now failing in Makbooza Kashmir, but is now decreasing in India after the election.
09:43So, in that regard, I think there will be a soft voice in them.
09:47I think you have raised a very valid point that we have cleared the ground reality in Makbooza Kashmir.
09:54Now it is necessary that Pakistan should bring its own strategic clarity and see how we have moved forward and how to help.
10:01Thank you very much for your time.
10:04Pleasure is always talking to you.
