00:00In the last 7 days of the C.O.C. election of candidates,
00:04how many families in politics did we see as candidates?
00:09For some of them, the so-called political dynasty is alive again
00:14because of their relatives who are running for politics.
00:18But what is the political dynasty?
00:20That is what Professor Antonio Contreras will reveal in Punto de Vista, Professor.
00:31Good morning, Dian, and thank you very much.
00:35What are the political dynasties? Who are these people?
00:40Well, unfortunately, even though we know who these people are,
00:45because they have the same last name, have the same relatives,
00:48according to the law, there is no definition of a political dynasty.
00:52And we know that even in the 1987 Constitution,
00:58Article 2, Section 26 states that the state guarantees equal access for public service
01:07and prohibits political dynasties, but as may be provided by law.
01:13It means as may be defined by law.
01:16And now, it's 2024, a few years have passed,
01:20and we still haven't defined what the political dynasty is.
01:25We still don't have a definition because the law hasn't been passed yet.
01:31The so-called provision is not self-executing.
01:35The law needs to be passed first.
01:38So why are there so many people running for family?
01:42Even though it is prohibited by the Constitution,
01:45the prohibition is not absolute because the framers said
01:49that it is prohibited but the law needs to be defined.
01:52So now, we see that the situation is still the same.
01:56But on the other hand, there are those who say,
01:58why should we prohibit families?
02:01If there are nurses, doctors, and lawyers,
02:08why shouldn't we allow a family whose DNA is public service
02:13and will run for politics to serve the country?
02:18And shouldn't there be equal access in politics and public service?
02:22Why should we prohibit bloodshed?
02:25Especially if sometimes, they are running for friends,
02:28they are running for enemies, just like what was in the news earlier.
02:31So, this issue is getting out of hand.
02:34My point of view is this.
02:36Although personally, I see that it is right that in other places,
02:41we need to allow more people to join politics.
02:45At the end of the day, our firewall here is tied to voters.
02:50Not all of us, but there are political dynasties and families
02:54that really serve the country.
02:57Those are the ones we should be protecting.
03:00But just like other politicians,
03:02if there is a political dynasty that has been sitting for a long time
03:05and nothing is happening to your districts or cities,
03:08maybe it is time to allow others to serve us.
03:13At the end of the day, democracy is in the hands of voters.
03:18It is in your hands.
03:20If you vote, it is your will.
03:25If you don't vote, it means you don't like it.
03:29So, I repeat,
03:32it is not prohibited for a political dynasty to run in the present
03:37because we don't have a definition yet.
03:40Because the Congressmen and Senators have to pass a law
03:49on what this is.
03:51But at the end of the day, it is up to you to decide.
03:54It is in your hands if we will continue having political dynasties in your area or not.
04:00Because in democracy, you are the boss.
04:03The power is in your hands.
04:06Let's just use what is right.
04:08Thank you very much, Professor Antonio Contreras.
