00:00It's Jones and Keefe, and we're joined now
00:02on a Patriots Monday by Patriots tight end Hunter Henry.
00:04He's brought to you by Shaw's and Star Market,
00:06perfecting the art afresh.
00:08Hunter, how are we doing this week?
00:09Doing all right.
00:10Let's start with yesterday.
00:12Obviously, another tough result, a rough finish yesterday.
00:16What happened on that final drive?
00:18What happened on the final play?
00:19Was that the design to go across the middle of the field,
00:22and what was the breakdown there?
00:25Yeah, I mean, it was just a tough ending.
00:28Obviously, there was the high of feeling like we scored,
00:32but then having to regroup.
00:34And I feel like we need to regroup and make
00:37another play there.
00:38And I put that on myself.
00:40I've got to be better, try to make a play for the team.
00:42And obviously, then we get the ball back
00:45and get another chance.
00:47Just need to be better in situational football.
00:49But yeah, it just wasn't good enough at all.
00:52Honestly, we shouldn't have even been in that scenario
00:55if we could just take care of business early.
00:57Just couldn't get anything going offensively enough,
01:00and just not good enough.
01:01On the Jalen Polk non-touchdown, is that a rule that you knew?
01:05I mean, because toe tap on the sideline is great.
01:07Everybody celebrates.
01:08But apparently, toe tap back at the end zone, not OK.
01:10Yeah, I kind of knew that one.
01:14It's such a hard thing when you're that close.
01:18You're trying to focus on the ball,
01:20but you're also trying to get.
01:21One foot is easy to get down, but two feet always
01:25is a challenge.
01:27So he'll learn from that, man, and he'll only get better.
01:30He's a great player, and going to continue
01:32to be a great player.
01:34And he's going to learn from that.
01:35He had quite a celebration, didn't he?
01:37The 50-yard line, when he went out there after that, too.
01:40He was, yeah, did you guys bring him back together after that?
01:43No, I didn't even realize that.
01:44I don't think I realized that.
01:45No, I was sure.
01:46I mean, it looked like a game-winning touchdown.
01:47I mean, I would have celebrated.
01:48Yeah, I was kind of locked in.
01:50So I was worried about the next play
01:51if we get a two-point conversion.
01:53And then, obviously, overall.
01:54Did you guys have to settle him down at all in the, I mean,
01:56he thought he scored the game-winning touchdown.
01:58So when you guys are huddled up, you're like, all right,
01:59now it's whatever.
02:00It was third down.
02:00We've got to play.
02:01Yeah, I mean, I think we just move on and try
02:02to go to the next play.
02:04Obviously, we weren't good enough on the next two.
02:06So yeah, there were some highs there, a lot of emotions.
02:10It's kind of hard to come back down.
02:11And we just got to be better in that scenario.
02:14You're locked in during the game.
02:16So maybe with some time to reflect,
02:18you feel a little differently about it.
02:20Do you guys think you ran the football enough yesterday?
02:22You ran with a high degree of success.
02:24It seemed like you got away from it for a couple of stretches,
02:27including with about a minute left,
02:29you guys were down at the 12, four straight incompletions.
02:32Do you think you ran the football enough yesterday?
02:35I mean, we ran the ball effectively.
02:38I mean, we got really two really good running backs.
02:41If you can get them in a one-on-one scenario,
02:43I mean, they're really, really great.
02:46And so I felt like we were able to run the ball.
02:48I mean, we need to be better in the passing game, though.
02:51Like, we have to be better.
02:52We got to execute better.
02:54I mean, it takes all 11 of us, though.
02:56It's not just one person.
02:58It takes the receivers, the tight ends,
03:00running backs, protection.
03:01We've all got to be better.
03:03So I would say no.
03:05I think we got to put that on ourselves
03:07and make more plays.
03:11Last week, there was a report there's a teetering mutiny
03:13inside the locker room.
03:14You're one of the captains, one of the veteran guys
03:16on the team.
03:17First of all, any truth to it?
03:18And then also, with a four-game losing streak,
03:20how do you keep everybody going in the right direction?
03:22Yeah, I don't know about that report.
03:25It's nothing I've ever seen in our locker room.
03:28Obviously, we're young, and we got a lot of new guys, too.
03:32But I think we're close, too.
03:35Obviously, yesterday was ugly and just messy
03:38and a lot of penalties, a lot of things that we beat ourselves.
03:43But we're right there, too.
03:45I mean, we were moving the football,
03:47and then we would have a penalty.
03:48We're moving the football, have a penalty.
03:50I mean, no offense wants to play from second and 20,
03:53second and 25.
03:54I mean, it's always tough.
03:56I mean, you saw it on their side of the football, too.
03:58When they had that, it was just a tough scenario.
04:00So yeah, I mean, we just got to keep going, man.
04:04We got 12 more of these things, and it starts this week.
04:06We got another home game.
04:07So you sign up for all of them.
04:11Obviously, our record is what it is,
04:13but we're going to continue to compete, continue to go.
04:15And this weekend is a big one.
04:17We've got a really good football team coming in.
04:19It's tight end Hunter Henry joining us here
04:20on a Patriots Monday.
04:21Jones and Keefe at Gillette Stadium.
04:24We heard Gerard Mayo this morning on WEI basically say,
04:28you know, we're going to have a squad meeting.
04:30We're going to talk things over.
04:31As it relates to the quarterback position,
04:33you guys haven't had your squad meeting yet,
04:35I don't think, unless you've had one since we
04:37talked to Christian Gonzalez.
04:39How much of the struggles offensively?
04:41And you said you got to get better on offense.
04:43How much of that is on the quarterback?
04:45Yeah, I don't think it's, I mean,
04:47he doesn't have a ton of time sometimes.
04:49You know, things, sometimes they're
04:51playing good coverages for some of the passing game.
04:54I think Jacoby's done a great job, man.
04:55He's a great leader.
04:56He's a great leader in that locker room.
04:58I love playing with him, playing for him.
05:00He's super tough.
05:01I mean, he continues to get up, down, after down,
05:04after down, and continue to compete,
05:06continue to kind of, you know, just put one together.
05:09I mean, we put together a great drive at the end of the game,
05:11even though I felt that we couldn't.
05:13You know, that second half was just, you know,
05:15grind almost offensively.
05:17And to put one together there at the end, it's just,
05:20I think, speaks to all the toughness of some of, you know,
05:23a lot of the guys on offense.
05:24You know, when things aren't going your way,
05:26but still at the end, you can put something together.
05:28I think that's big.
05:29So we've got to build on that, continue to do
05:32that throughout the week.
05:33You're a captain on the team.
05:35And so I don't know if the coaches would ask you
05:39for input on what you would want to do at quarterback.
05:41I don't know that you would tell us right now.
05:43But if they ask you for input, you
05:44would give it on that decision?
05:47I'm going to let Mayo make that decision.
05:49So, you know, he's going to do what's best for the team.
05:53I love Jacoby.
05:54I've taken almost all my reps with Jacoby.
05:56So and he's been great.
05:58Obviously, you know, the record is not
06:00where we want to be at all.
06:02You know, the games haven't been the way we want them to be.
06:04But Jacoby's doing a great job.
06:05How has Drake May developed in practice?
06:08You know, we saw him in camp.
06:10We saw him in the preseason games.
06:11We've only seen him in that one series in the Jets game.
06:13You've been there at practice.
06:14You've heard about 30% reps and all that stuff.
06:16How has he looked from week one all the way to now at practice?
06:19I mean, Drake's a great player.
06:21He really is.
06:22And he's continuing to progress.
06:24Obviously, there's a lot of intangibles
06:26that come into an NFL offense, just from top to bottom.
06:31But he's continuing to work hard, continuing to get better.
06:34And he's doing a lot of good things in practice.
06:36OK, Patriots tight end Hunter Henry.
06:38Real quick, did you end up having a bet with Coach
06:40Mayo on the Tennessee game?
06:42Arkansas big upset.
06:43That was a big upset.
06:45I probably should have thrown a bet.
06:46But I did give him a good woo pig after the game.
06:50So just to remind him.
06:52Good.
06:53I mean, I get it.
06:54Not that you don't have faith in your Hawks, I'm sure.
06:55But again, that Tennessee team looks scary.
06:57So that's a good thing to do.
06:58It's always tough to come out of favor with a win, though.
07:02Hunter Henry, Patriots tight end here on a Patriots Monday.
07:05We appreciate the time.
07:06Best of luck going forward.
07:07All right, guys.
07:07Appreciate y'all.
07:08All right, Hunter Henry joining us here on WEI.
