00:00Newport is set to host a number of events in the next few months and there is concern
00:06among councillors that more infrastructure needs to be in place to help cope with the
00:10extra people visiting the centre. A Newport City Councillor has said that the
00:15city needs more public toilets in order to keep up with those big events and the council
00:19needs to update its strategy on the matter. Age Cymru have said that public toilet facilities
00:25are necessary for old people to visit town centres.
00:29Currently there are no laws that require a councillor to provide public toilets but they
00:33do need an official strategy to cope, like relying on leisures, facilities and restaurants
00:38for example, but Councillor Chris Reeks wants more action on the matter.
00:43Newport will be hosting the IWTH Youth Ice Steadford in a few years' time in 2027 so
00:48more facilities will be necessary when that comes around but there is a hope from both
00:52councillors and charities that additional facilities will be provided sooner rather
00:57than later.
