00:00Sure, what did you make of that?
00:15Well, pleased overall with, you know, late in the week we've had to adapt the team once again with the loss of Gerrard and Mikko.
00:21I'm pleased with the defensive side of the performance. Obviously, it's good to keep a clean sheet and the mentality was good to make sure we did and some good performances.
00:29Jimmy, particularly, getting thrown in again at right back and doing a very good job. Jordan playing well today, especially. Keno strong, Tarkin, Keno between them and Young, steady as ever.
00:38So, I was pleased with that side of the game. They were a good outfit, you know, and I still think we caused enough trouble to maybe nick one, but it would have been a tight one, don't get me wrong.
00:47So, overall, three games a beat and I think the mentality is getting stronger and I think that shows in the way the team are finding that determination to make sure we look after ourselves.
00:57Just how late were the calls on?
01:00Yeah, Mikko, later in the week, that was kind of Wednesday, Thursday. Gerrard we probably knew a bit earlier, Monday, Tuesday when we were looking at it going.
01:07I mean, you know, these are maybes and we have to be careful. They're just coming out of injury or certainly Gerrard is.
01:12We're hopeful that he'll be back for the next one and we'll have to wait and see. Both of them, we're hopeful of them being fit.
01:18It would be helpful, we're carrying a thin squad, whichever knows, and then we've had umpteen injuries and not all really serious ones, but missing one, two, you know, one week, two weeks, three weeks and it's been a real challenge, that's for sure.
01:30Do you think Dominic Carvalhoen should have had a penalty in the second half?
01:33Yeah, I think it's a bizarre one. I mean, their penalty, you know, I think there's a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, but at the end of the day, you can't do that, so therefore we know that.
01:41And then ours, I mean, the thing that I can't work out, I see so many weak penalties and then you see that and he's clearly trying to strike the ball at goal.
01:49Their lad, I don't think he can reach it. He interrupts him striking it at goal, let's say, imagine he's going to score.
01:56And I just can't see anything other and they don't even look at it, which is, you know, you think, well, at least have a look at it.
02:01So, I don't know where it is with penalties. You know our record's awful for getting penalties, we don't get them.
02:06And then I suppose the easiest way of putting it, if that's in the middle of the pitch, I think everyone in the stadium thinks it's a foul.
02:11So then why isn't it? You know, that's probably the easiest way of putting it.
02:15I know there'll be some technical reason, by the way, because you know, whenever we ask the questions, I go to the powers that be and they'll give me some technical reason and you just go, all right, yeah, OK.
02:23But it's all right when you tap someone's shoulder and their legs buckle and they're, you know, amazing athletes.
02:27But who knows? Who knows? Because we can't get penalties, so who knows?
02:33Jermain? Sean, big contribution from Jordan again, stood up when it was needed.
02:38Yeah, I thought all of the team, defensively, I thought it was a big contribution from everyone, to be honest.
02:42It's, you know, a lot's been made of the defensive side, and rightly so, but I've said it all along, well, most of the time, it's been mainly mistakes, too many mistakes.
02:50And now we're cutting them out and now we're looking stronger again.
02:52You know, we've had three unbeaten and we've looked stronger in them games defensively because we're cutting out the mistakes and we're doing the basics better.
02:58So the basic principles, the shape, the tactical understanding and the awareness and the grit and determination to make sure we look after ourselves.
03:05You know, the balance is then finding more of a threat up front and more of a threat going forwards.
03:09We did find pockets of that today and some chances and good chances, of course.
03:13But I think the balance, it's fair to say, it's a good mini run of three undefeated and five points out of them three.
03:21Oh, yeah.
03:22Yeah, I mean, you know, they're a good outfit and we're patching the team together.
03:25We're still being careful with some of the players who are playing to get that true match fitness.
03:29It will come.
03:30This break is probably necessary at this time.
03:33It's probably more helpful than not to make sure we can try and get these bodies back.
03:37And some need work, some need a bit of rest and make sure we can get back on full fitness.
03:43Sean, it's not the first time the squad has been stretched this season by any means.
03:47Have you been able to pinpoint why there have been so many injuries?
03:50No, we've looked at varying things.
03:52Obviously, we look at training schedules.
03:54We look at pre-season.
03:55Of course, bodies coming back late.
03:57Don't forget different times of pre-season because they needed a rest from different competitions.
04:01You know, you're trying to look at all of that.
04:04And it's difficult because we carry a thin squad because of the, obviously, the financial side.
04:08We know that.
04:09And, you know, it's unusual to get this many injuries.
04:12There have not been really too many really serious ones, which is more frustrating.
04:15If you get a serious one, there's not a lot you can do.
04:17But these ones have been, you know, 10 days, two weeks.
04:20But too many at once.
04:21And it's been hard, you know, trying to piece that together and stay resolute to the cause.
04:25But as I said, I think the mentality is growing again.
04:28And the way the team are operating is growing again to make sure we look after ourselves.
04:32Relatively early change in the second half with Idris Ige coming on.
04:36Can you just explain the thinking behind that?
04:37Yeah, it was a tight call.
04:38You know, Idris has done very well for us.
04:40He understands the way that we play because he's played a lot more football, the manga.
04:44And so it was just a tight call whether who played, to be honest.
04:47And Idris hasn't had a lot of training.
04:49He missed almost nine days, eight days without training.
04:52We understand why, obviously, a family bereavement.
04:54But so, yeah, it was a tight call, that one.
04:56So I was, you know, wondering.
04:58And then just saw that bit of extra experience, you know, in there.
05:02And I thought he did a good job and probably should have scored, obviously.
05:06Any further questions?
05:10Michael, Sean, is he going to go away for Ukraine?
05:13We'll wait and see. They have jurisdiction, so they might want to see him.
05:15I don't know yet, you know, because they have jurisdiction.
05:17We can't keep them here.
05:18And if they want to see him, they can see him.
05:20What is the injury with him?
05:21He's got a calf.
05:22Yeah, a small calf strain, but it's enough to stop him, obviously.
05:26And Joe's got to fight.
05:27And just the words on James Garner coming in at right back.
05:30Yeah, he's done terrific.
05:31I mean, I thought he did really well at Leicester.
05:33We know he can operate there, but I thought today was really good.
05:36You know, he looked like a player who's played there a lot and he hasn't.
05:39And his energy looks like it's coming back.
05:41He had a spare one.
05:42He just couldn't quite find that edge to himself.
05:45But he's looking good and he's looking stronger.
05:47He's enjoying his football again, which I'm pleased to see.
05:49And I thought he delivered a very good performance today.
05:53Karl, one more.
05:54I know you spoke about the collective responsibility, but just again on Jordan today,
06:00the importance of having a goalkeeper of such quality and such character.
06:05Yeah, well, I mean, he's had his fair share of question marks this season,
06:08early this season, like we all have.
06:11Part of the resilience of being a footballer and a top footballer is that.
06:14It's about dealing with that and seeing it through and staying resolute to what you do.
06:18I think Young has done that, you know, with his experience,
06:20his knowledge of what he does and his knowledge of the professional.
06:23Keno's done that as well.
06:24You know, loads of people have had questions, including myself, obviously.
06:27But that's part of what you do.
06:28That's part of being a professional.
06:30And he's a very good professional and he's showing that with his performance today.
06:35Thanks, everyone.
