00:07There are many different types of therapy.
00:09Dialectical, exposure therapy, or even CBT,
00:12which I swear doesn't stand for what you think it does.
00:14Well, the internet, TikTok, likes to invent new forms of therapy,
00:17and this new one is called rejection therapy.
00:19Kind of similar to exposure therapy,
00:21except not done with a licensed therapist,
00:23you go out into the wild and do something you wouldn't normally have the courage to do.
00:26In order to get that rejection,
00:28a rejection that is supposed to strengthen your confidence for future situations.
00:31One example is this woman on a flight who stands up and says,
00:34Have a lovely flight, everybody! Here's to making memories!
00:37To which most passengers stayed completely silent.
00:39I mean, this just doesn't seem like a realistic way to approach rejection.
00:43No one wants to be in your TikTok while they're on a plane,
00:45and so the only course of action is to stare at it awkwardly, or look away.
00:48I mean, I don't know what you expected them to do.
00:50To stand up as well?
00:51Also, what is this giving you the confidence to do?
00:53This MFIsNotReal delusion in the back of the plane?
00:56Jokes aside, maybe it's good that Zoomers and young TikTokers
00:59are going out of their way to actually try and communicate with other human beings in real life.
01:03It's kind of fun to just talk to a random person on the street, you know,
01:06do some NPC dialogue.
01:07Nice weather, huh? Boy, I could live in this forever!
01:09And then watch as the other person puts headphones in and pretends you don't exist.
01:12I guess that's rejection therapy.
01:14Now, this TikToker Sophie does these sorts of TikToks a lot,
01:16and so she's getting used to it.
01:18She's used to getting rejected or looked at weirdly,
01:20and so she has strengthened her resolve, like an anime character.
01:23This is her training arc.
01:24She might become world leader, or Hokage by the end of this,
01:27by touching the souls of every passerby she encounters.
01:30She'll combine humanity into one.
01:31She notes that this is life-changing,
01:33and many would assume she's become more outgoing and comfortable in social situations.
01:36Maybe she's onto something here.
01:38I need to memorize ten lines at the beginning of the day to use out in public.
01:41These are super funny, although a bit awkward if you're some random person
01:44injected into one of these videos,
01:45and honestly, before long, these will probably just turn into prankers
01:48dropping gallon jugs of milk on the ground at Target.
01:50But some people treat this like a challenge,
01:52by doing an interaction every day, like it's some sort of video game quest.

02:00That's a fine and dandy one, it's quick and over with.
02:02The airplane one by Sophie is particularly rough,
02:04because she now has to sit back down and succumb this entire flight.
02:07That's not rejection therapy, that's mental torture therapy.
02:09I mean, everyone on this eight-hour flight is going to be thinking about
02:12the TikTok girl doing a victory speech at the beginning of the flight,
02:14like she's about to drink beer with a team of Vikings.
02:17Some of these are very silly, though.
02:18I really like this one by Holden Lane Goldberg,
02:20who just goes up to someone and asks,
02:22hey, can I throw yarn at you?
02:23And honestly, if rejection therapy is just tossing crafts and supplies
02:27to your friends at Michael's, sign me up.
02:29Some of them need a little more sauce, though, okay?
