00:02Fitness fans could replace beer drinkers under plans to create a gym in a historic Chesterfield pub building.
00:09An application has been submitted by Ben Actar to the Borough Council,
00:13seeking full planning permission to change the use of the Wellington on High Street at New Whittington.
00:18Mr Actar's plan is for a large open gym area which would enable a diverse range of fitness equipment on the ground floor,
00:25a specialist wellness and mental health support room, changing rooms and toilets.
00:29The proposed fitness centre would be open from 5am to 11pm seven days a week
00:34and would employ nine people including gym staff, personal trainers and a mental health and well-being coach.
00:42Chesterfield's popular community fire display has been scrapped by the Cashstrap Borough Council.
00:47Councillor Kate Sarvent, Cabinet Member for Town Centres and Visitor Economy said
00:51we took the decision earlier this year to no longer host a fireworks event in the Stan Road Park.
00:57This was one of several difficult decisions that was taken to deliver a balanced budget
01:01and ensure we could protect the essential services for the most vulnerable people in our communities.
01:06In 2023 the council-run fireworks display was cancelled two days before it was due to go
01:11ahead due to safety reasons after Stan Road Park became waterlogged due to heavy downpours.
