00:00Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from
00:06Carnoustie at the end of the opening day of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. First
00:13and foremost, one of the best days weather-wise this event has ever witnessed. Benign conditions
00:23on the east coast of Scotland. The sun came out just before lunchtime, actually turned
00:29quite warm in the middle of the afternoon, before cooling off a little as the last groups
00:35finished off their rounds. Pride of place on the opening day went to South African Darren
00:42Fishard, playing at Kings Barnes. He shot an 11 under par 61, that included two eagles.
00:51As is normally the case, the best scoring was at Kings Barnes, where two of the Scots,
00:58Jameson and David Law, signed for 9 under and 8 under respectively. In Law's case, that
01:05was a timely boost, as he tries to land a big week in the final few weeks of the season
01:11to hang on to his DP World Tour card. Back here at Carnoustie, Bob McIntyre playing in
01:17the team event with his dad Dougie. He's signed for a 5 under par 67. John Ram, one of the
01:2614 left players on the field, he had the best score here with a 7 under par 65, saying that
01:33he putted brilliantly on greens that really are in fantastic condition. Also here at Carnoustie,
01:40defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick, he had a 4 under par 68, one better than Rory McIlroy.
01:48The big guns move on to Kings Barnes tomorrow, before playing the third round at St Andrews
