00:00Frequent replacement bus services will be running instead but customers are advised to plan ahead
00:05and allow extra time when travelling through affected areas.
00:08We wanted to know how users of the Metro system feel about the temporary closure.
00:14It could affect us in many ways. I think there will be quite some trouble.
00:20It won't affect me whatsoever, but it will affect people going to work.
00:28Nexus is carrying out the planned closure during the October half-term break to minimise disruption
00:33where they will carry out other important work.
00:35Stuart Clarke, Nexus' Infrastructure Director, has said this is a significant modernisation project
00:41and part of our multi-million pound asset renewal programme
00:44and that they are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused for their customers.
00:50I've just recently gotten a ticket after two years
00:54and I don't really, I don't find any need to do the Metro now.
00:58I used to do it on a regular basis some years ago, going to Fellin, to the Fellin station,
01:05but now I don't find I do a bus. A bus is more, as I might say, convenient.
01:11On a daily basis, going to work, depending on which route they're going to,
01:17if they're going over Newcastle or South Shields, somewhere like that,
01:22I dare say it's quick and once you're on, you go to your destination.
01:29Well, we'll miss it because I go shopping quite a lot in there.
01:32If I was on a permanent basis, which I used to do, six days a week,
01:38I wouldn't be very happy jumping off and on buses, you know,
01:42but then again, it's where you come from and where you're going.
01:46While Nexus have tried to minimise disruption,
01:49the closure clashes with Newcastle United's Carabao Cup game with Chelsea at St James' Park
01:54on the 29th October, but the line will be back open for Newcastle to play Arsenal.
