00:00This baby was born just 7 days ago.
00:05Helen and her mother buried him under a tarima inside a cell.
00:14Good morning!
00:16The documentary, Celda Inocente, is one of the first documentaries that I wrote
00:22about the mothers who gave birth to a baby inside a cell
00:28about the babies whose first home was an orphanage.
00:34Danica! Danica!
00:37It's so heavy!
00:39Danica was a child inside a cell who learned to crawl and speak.
00:44Both of her parents were imprisoned.
00:49I made that documentary in 2002.
00:5420 years later, did anything change in our Celda?
01:08Like Danica, Bell's mother was also imprisoned.
01:11She didn't have a real name.
01:13But unlike Danica, who grew up inside a prison,
01:17Bell was separated from her parents.
01:20Her mother had a case and she was living in Baggio at the time.
01:27But her case was in Subic, so she was a single parent.
01:34So once she was arrested, the children were abandoned in Baggio.
01:41So the Baggio social services contacted us and we were able to get...
01:49And her brother.
01:50And her brother from the social services in Baggio.
01:55And the mother started to attend regularly our Bible studies in Subic
02:01until she was transferred to Manila.
02:04Bell was only 5 years old when she was brought to this shelter.
02:10She was brought here after her mother, who we will hide under the name Joanne, was imprisoned.
02:16How many years have you been here in the POC?
02:19Five.
02:20Five years. Do you still remember the day you were brought here?
02:27After my birthday, I was brought here.
02:31It was painful because...
02:34It was painful because...
02:44That's why I'm afraid that my mother will disappear.
02:47Because?
02:48Because my children, my grandmother, my mother, and my brother are taking care of me.
02:59But did you want to live here before?
03:02You didn't want to because...
03:04We couldn't be with my mother anymore.
03:07We only saw her sometimes.
03:09That's why at first, I really didn't want to be here.
03:16Bell's mother is a single mother.
03:18But because the children are no longer allowed inside the prison,
03:21the children were forced to be held in a shelter.
03:25My mother told me that my mother is already old,
03:29so this is the safest place for me.
03:34Don't you have other relatives?
03:37That's what my mother said.
03:39She said that we don't have other relatives who can take care of me.
03:46The POCCH, or Philippine Outreach Center Children's Home,
03:50is an accredited NGO of the DSWD.
03:54They take care of children who have been abandoned or who have been separated from their parents.
04:00Bell has been in this shelter for six years.
04:05She has been six years away from her mother in prison in Piitan.
04:11Bell's life in the shelter is good.
04:13She has a free house, food, clothes, and education.
04:18But she is complete in all her needs.
04:21Her mother's embrace is irreplaceable.
04:27How is your life here in the POC?
04:30It's okay.
04:33Is it happy or sad?
04:36It's happy and sad.
04:38It's happy and sad.
04:39Why is it happy?
04:41Because I got to know the Lord here.
04:44I got to know the Lord.
04:49And I'm sad because I'm not with my children.
04:54What is your wish? What do you want to happen?
04:58I want to see him again.
05:02Every day.
05:15Every day.
05:17Every day.
