The story....
Ravana, contrary to the prevalent image, is said to be an erudite and versatile scholar, a wizard in music, an expert in Ayurveda medicine and a competent ruler. Ravana was also known to be a devout Shiva Bakta. Legend has it that once Ravana attempted to uproot Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva, and bring it to Lanka so as to please his mother. Irked by Ravana’s arrogance, Shiva pushed the mountain into place and trapped Ravana beneath it. For hundreds of years, Ravana sang hymns in praise of Shiva who finally blessed him with great boons.
