00:00Before I begin, I wanted to say a few words about Iran's missile attack on Israel today.
00:23At my direction, the United States military actively supported the defense of Israel,
00:28and we're still assessing the impact.
00:30But based on what we know now, the attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective.
00:35And this is testament to Israeli military capability and the U.S. military.
00:40It's also a testament to intensive planning between the United States and Israel to anticipate
00:46and defend against the brazen attack we expected.
00:50Make no mistake, the United States is fully, fully, fully supportive of Israel.
00:56And I just spent the morning and part of the afternoon in the Situation Room and meeting
01:02with my whole national security team and consulting with the Israelis indirectly in terms of their
01:09impact on us.
01:11And the national security team has been, as I said, in constant contact with Israeli officials
01:16and their counterparts.
01:17That's an active discussion right now.
01:18We've got to get all the data straight.
01:20We've been in constant contact with the Israeli government and our counterparts, and that
01:26remains to be seen.
01:27What is your message to Prime Minister Netanyahu, and have you spoken with him today?
01:32I haven't spoken with him.
01:33We have spoken with all his people, and I'll be talking to him, and my message will depend
01:38on what we find finally conclude is needed.
01:42Today Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles towards targets in Israel.
01:46The United States military coordinated closely with the Israeli Defense Forces to help defend
01:52Israel against this attack.
01:54U.S. naval destroyers joined Israeli air defense units in firing interceptors to shoot down
02:00inbound missiles.
02:03President Biden and Vice President Harris monitored the attack and the response from
02:07the White House Situation Room, joined in person and remotely by their national security
02:11team.
02:13We are still working with the IDF and the authorities in Israel to assess the impact
02:17of the attack.
02:19But at this time, and I stress at this time, we do not know of any deaths in Israel.
02:25We are tracking the reported death of a Palestinian civilian in Jericho in the West Bank.
02:30We do not know of any damage to aircraft or strategic military assets in Israel.
02:37In short, based on what we know at this point, this attack appears to have been defeated
02:41and ineffective.
02:44We are also aware of reports of a terrorist attack in Jaffa that took the lives of a number
02:48of Israeli civilians and wounded several others today.
02:52Our condolences go out to the families of the victims and to the family of the Palestinian
02:56civilian in Jericho.
02:58The word fog of war was invented for a situation like this.
03:02This is a fluid situation.
03:04We will consult with the Israelis on next steps in terms of the response and how to
03:10deal with what Iran has just done, and we will continue to monitor for further threats
03:15and attacks from Iran and its proxies.
03:18Obviously, this is a significant escalation by Iran, a significant event, and it is equally
03:23significant that we were able to step up with Israel and create a situation in which no
03:29one was killed in this attack in Israel so far as we know at this time.
03:34He is tracking this minute by minute.
03:36We are very much deeply in touch with the Israelis, and insofar as we have calls to
03:40read out, we'll make sure to read them out with you.
03:43We are proud of the actions that we've taken alongside Israel to protect and defend Israel.
03:47We have made clear that there will be consequences, severe consequences for this attack, and we
03:51will work with Israel to make that the case.
03:54Thank you very much.
03:55Thank you, Jake.
