00:00and who have understood it.
00:02We are meeting at one o'clock.
00:04All three days we begin.
00:06Mr. Zant, how do you find the process?
00:09Good, but tired.
00:18So he thought that this was an exceptional opportunity
00:24that he didn't want to miss,
00:27but I think everyone can tell that he is exhausted,
00:31that he is still very much in the process of recovering,
00:36and at the moment the only concrete plan in the foreseeable future
00:44is that he will continue his recovery
00:47and that hopefully he will be a lot stronger physically
00:54and in a few months' time.
00:59The harm that Julian's case poses as a political precedent,
01:04as a precedent in which the DOJ has secured a conviction under the Espionage Act,
01:09the only viable remedy at this stage is a pardon,
01:19and this is something that we are pursuing.
01:25We know there is a lot of support for a pardon,
01:28that there is a broad recognition that this conviction is a terrible precedent,
01:36that it should never have been brought.
01:39But of course the pardon would just be in relation to Julian,
01:45that the Espionage Act should never be used to intimidate and chill the press again.
01:59So the way to ensure it doesn't happen again to others is to reform the Espionage Act.
02:05I think he is very aware of the fact that the persecution of him was to send a signal,
02:13to all journalists, that you stay in line.
02:18And that is of course one of the most important findings of the report by Sunay here,
02:24that the cooling effect has already taken place.
