00:00Meanwhile, the local government of Cebu City inspected the public hearings that took place the day before yesterday.
00:09This is the story of Jesse Atienza of PTV-Cebu.
00:16The people of the office of the building official of Cebu City LGU inspected the Abiliana National School.
00:24It is one of the largest schools with more than 5,000 students.
00:28They were greeted by the walls of the Bread and Pastry Laboratory Room, which is managed by several teachers.
00:35The earthquake before, there was one, but it was small.
00:40But now, it has increased.
00:44And it's increasing.
00:46Are we nervous?
00:47A little.
00:49In the initial inspection of the building officials, the discovered walls were not dangerous.
00:56What we saw were mostly cracks along the walls.
01:01There were no cracks on the beams or columns.
01:04So, no need to worry.
01:06We just don't like cracks.
01:08Yesterday, we saw cracks on the window jams, on the doors.
01:13It's all columns.
01:15Columns and beams are dangerous.
01:20In Zapatera Elementary School, the hallways and corners of the school are quiet.
01:25The teachers gathered in their library for modular classes for their students.
01:32This setup is not new for them.
01:35That's right. It's not really something that's surprising because we conduct regular earthquake drills.
01:43So, we've been ready for this.
01:45We're just thankful that it happened when the children are not here.
01:52According to the Office of the Building Officials,
01:54the disaster team will continue their efforts for public education
01:59and for public and private offices and offices
02:03so that they can safely use their houses and structures.
02:08From PTV Sabu, Jesse Atienza for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
