00:00We have the highlights, he's packing up the rest, and the Badgers, what a splendid champion for 2024, it's once again Murray Pride!
00:12And that is a remarkable time as well.
00:22There's a half marathon record in there for the first half as well.
00:25How far did you go through half way? I think I went through, when Steve was 16, I think I was just inside that for half way, I think it could have been.
00:32Inside, I did 68 up here in Burness, I think I was inside that.
00:37So tell us how the race unfolded then.
00:40The weather and stuff were absolutely fantastic, I was very thankful when we started, and then Steve and I spent out for the first 5 miles or something,
00:50and then someone dropped off, me, Tom Charles, who was number 2, and then I don't know who the third guy was,
00:57and then you fly through the first 10 miles, you think you're going to go off massively in the last bit,
01:06but then from miles like 10 to 17 it's pretty flat, so you want to be on pace there.
01:14I think the first 2 miles are a bit even, so we're going to be dropping off where we wanted to be,
01:19mile 14, Tom dropped off, and then from 14 to finish it's just, I couldn't really look right behind me,
01:27but it's just me and my colleague chasing a car for 12 miles.
01:31And did you know through that screen that you had it?
01:34No, it was like the doors held, you know you've got a bit of time in the back,
01:39and then you're dropped on to basically bang on what I want it to be, like sub 220 pace,
01:45and then you're just squeaky bummed out from there to the end,
01:48trying to make sure that you can go to the end and get some time back and make it under the 220 mark.
01:55But you looked pretty strong finishing there.
01:58Yeah, it felt alright, it felt alright.
02:01It's nice when you get to the final wee home straight, you're prepared for that turn there,
02:06but everyone went to plan it.
02:10So how does it feel to get not just a personal best time, but also getting that course record that stood for so long?
02:18I think I've got to thank the weather for a wee bit, it was absolutely perfect today,
02:23Aye, chuff with that, I thought it was on after 222 last year,
02:27surely relieved that that wasn't there last year, so, yeah.
02:31I had to go through, but I remember I was speaking to you last year, you were saying the target next time was...
02:35Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's taken a year to get there.
02:39We're used to about 10 minutes of our time here at Loch Ness, or 20 minutes,
02:43it's getting smaller and smaller, so it's 3 minutes this time, we'll see what we can do next time.
02:47Yeah, so who's next then?
02:49I'm going to do Seville in February, so that's the next marathon,
02:55but I feel like running the hills, I quite like it when you've got 26 miles of wind behind you,
03:00so yeah, let's see if we can beat that in the flat and less favourable course.
03:06So that's two good wins this year, Bedley and Loch Ness as well,
03:11so you're not just improving your times, you're notching up the victories as well,
03:15so it must be a big boost to your confidence too.
03:17Aye, yeah, I've just been fortunate, the races have just been my way in them,
03:22so hopefully I keep that bit of luck going in the next few as well.
03:26And you're saying really the difference from just about a year ago is just that consistency in training.
03:31Yeah, sadly I used to play football like three times a week when I did the marathon last year,
03:36so we've stopped doing that and just, aye, a lot more running.
03:41I've got to say thank you to everyone at Loughney and the club as well,
03:44Coach Owen, massive support in this,
03:48a large bit of the air and everyone at the club for speeding me up.
03:52Long may it continue, as much as we're slowing down with how much we can speed up unfortunately.
03:57As long as you're getting faster.
03:58As long as we're getting faster.
04:00Congratulations again, well done.
04:02Thank you very much.
