00:00Hurricane expert Brian Thompson joins us now and Brian is going to be a nasty wind setup here with this particular setup
00:07So the wind is going to carry inland Brian
00:10Yeah, Jeff a lot of times
00:11We see the the winds really fall off rapidly as these storms move northward because they're not moving all that quickly
00:17But this storm is moving to the north north and northeast about 20 to 25 miles per hour
00:22So it's going to move inland pretty quickly
00:24So, of course you have the the core of wind right in the Florida panhandle and toward the Big Bend area
00:29But notice how far north some of these stronger winds get these 40 to 60 mile-per-hour gusts even gusts upwards of 60 to 80 miles
00:36per hour
00:37Reaching up into parts of Georgia parts of the Atlanta area could see some gusts upwards of 60 miles per hour
00:42So especially with a saturated ground
00:44We've already had a lot of rain in these areas in some cases five six seven inches of rain parts of North Carolina
00:49Already closing in on over a foot of rain
00:51So you add some wind to the mix and you're gonna have some downed trees and some power lines
00:55So with some of these winds gusting at times again over 50 or 60 miles per hour
00:59And Brian the greatly sloped terrain there in the west-facing slopes of the Appalachians that you western part of North Carolina
01:06The east-facing slopes of the Appalachians you say in western, North Carolina
01:09We're gonna see some excessive rain tonight with possibly two plus inch per hour rainfall rates over saturated ground
01:16So what would you say to anybody who lives in an area maybe near a stream or a creek before they go to bed?
01:21Well, you definitely want to be aware of how high the that
01:25Waterway already is because it won't take much more rain to cause some significant flooding
01:30many areas have already picked up as it just showed six to twelve inches of rain because it's been raining in many of these areas
01:35for the better part of 24 to 36 hours
01:38so we're gonna just continue to add more rain on top of that as as
01:41Helene moves northward over the next several hours and
01:44continues to bring heavy rain to these particular areas that
01:47Where the flash flooding can be even worse due to the due to the terrain you have water funneling into some of the lower spots
01:54Especially some of the streams and creeks and that's causing all those problems
01:57You can see the future radar here over the next couple of days as the storm moves northward. It moves very quickly
02:01So we're gonna see things wrap up
02:03near the Gulf Coast pretty quickly tomorrow as far as the rain goes and then it'll move northward and just kind of spread out and
02:10Become more spotty as far as the rain goes, but we're still gonna be looking at some pretty significant flooding concerns again from North Carolina
02:17Back through parts of Tennessee. That's where we're looking at some of the heaviest rainfall amounts even into portions of the Ohio Valley
02:22We're gonna be looking at some decent rainfall as well
02:24and it's going to linger for a few days even though it's moving fast now it is eventually gonna slow to a crawl here as
