00:00Tony and Academy Award winner for cabaret, Joel Grey, and a Tony Award winner in 1986 for the search for signs of intelligent life in the universe, if she ever finds any she's promised to tell us, Lily Tomlin.
00:31You know, I'm not accustomed to standing on a Broadway stage with another actor, so I must say it feels awfully good to have company, especially since it's you.
00:45I'm thrilled also to be here tonight with you, Joel, to present the awards to the leading performance by an actor and an actress in a musical.
00:53Yeah, me too. Because I don't know anything more demanding for an actor than doing eight shows a week in a Broadway musical, unless it's standing on the unemployment line and not doing eight shows a week in a Broadway musical.
01:07The nominees for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical are Keith Carradine, The Will Rogers Follies, Paul Hipp, Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story, Jonathan Price, Miss Saigon, and Topol, Fiddler on the Roof.
01:33And the winner is Jonathan Price.
02:03Thank you. Thank you very, very much. I suppose that now is the time to tell you about my new book, which is 101 Things to Do with a Used Cadillac.
02:23I'm shaking. Yesterday was my birthday, and I spent the morning with my children. I spent between shows with Kate, and the rest of the day I spent with, well, some of the nicest people in the world.
02:52Some of the nicest, most talented people you could ever want to be with. They are the, and as Hinton said earlier, the multiracial cast of Miss Saigon. I thank them.
03:05The nominees for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical are June Angela, Shogun the Musical, Dee Hody, The Will Rogers Follies.
03:36Kathy Rigby, Peter Pan, Lea Salonga, Miss Saigon.
03:50And the Tony Award goes to Lea Salonga, Miss Saigon.
04:05Oh, this can't be for real. I remember watching these on TV when I was a little girl in Manila, and this can't be real.
04:28I'd like to first of all thank God for all of his blessings. I'd also like to thank Actors' Equity for giving me the chance to come here to the United States.
04:41You guys have been so great. I'd like to also thank Cameron, Elaine, Claude Michel, Richard, Nick. You guys gave me the chance to do this role, and I thank you.
04:51I'd also like to thank my family, my mom up in the mezzanine, my brother down here in the orchestra. Hi, guys.
04:58You guys have been the most supportive. And to the entire cast and crew of Miss Saigon, you guys are the greatest people anybody could ever work with.
05:08And this also goes to everybody back home who dreams of winning a Tony. Well, I got one, and the dream can come true for someone else, too.
05:14Thanks a lot. God bless.
