00:00How's this for a pair of firsts?
00:12First ever meeting between the two, first ever opportunity for
00:16Bret Hart to wrestle for the WCW World's TV title.
00:19So much to be a Mr. Nice guy, you hear that?
00:39Yeah, I think everyone worldwide knows he's nothing like Mr. Nice guy.
00:45They hook it up, and now Booker T using his quickness to send Bret Hart down.
00:52Bret Hart, the master, though, of psychology.
00:56So much experience on his side, too.
01:00And probably the toughest test to date for Booker T in singles competition.
01:05And those tests just keep on coming.
01:07And so far, he's been up to the task.
01:09You think back the past couple of pay-per-view events at Super Brawl,
01:12he beat Rick Martel in Saturn in back-to-back matches.
01:15He held the TV belt for three months.
01:21His next challenge, only the five-time World Heavyweight Champion noted for
01:25the excellence of execution.
01:26He knows it all.
01:30He sure does.
01:31Into the ropes he goes.
01:33Missed it in the left hand to Larry, but Booker T did not miss that one.
01:36Covers in one, two, nooks there.
01:38Got it, two count, Booker T, the first man to the attack.
01:41Stopping the attempt by Bret Hart.
01:43And a great back kick.
01:45Booker T snap bears him down.
01:47Head first he goes.
01:48Hooks a far leg and gets a two.
01:51Now you can tell that Booker T not only wants to win,
01:53he'd love to win and get it over with in a hurry.
01:56Longer you go, the longer it favors the veteran, and
01:59I really think it favors Bret Hart.
02:02Not to take anything away from the perseverance of Booker T, but
02:05I just feel that outside.
02:07Locked an attempted hip toss over top of the chopper over the floor.
02:11You know, he's such a great wrestler, Bret Hart.
02:13He's always so confident.
02:14But I wonder if he thought this man was gonna be a pushover.
02:17Since it's their first time meeting,
02:18did he really expect this man to control the match the way he has?
02:21On the floor though,
02:26as he gets some skin from
02:31the fans at ringside, Booker T turns his attention.
02:37And he's a step away from his opponent, and guys, that would cost him.
02:40Critical air by Booker T.
02:43Bret Hart was ready for him that time and sent him right into the steel.
02:46The experience is what it's all about.
02:52On the floor, a count out here would not do Bret Hart any good.
02:55It would only help Booker T.
02:57Remember, the old cliche is, when you're the champ,
03:00you do not have to beat them, they gotta beat you.
03:03And quickly, on that note, Bret Hart scoots him back in the ring to keep it
03:07in the ring and try to become the television champ.
03:10And remember that other saying,
03:12do unto others with one of those real hard chairs.
03:17Yeah, I've heard that from the brain book.
03:22Into the ropes, they go.
03:26Right now, Bret Hart is in charge, and Bret Hart trying to soften the man up.
03:32I thought he was gonna go for that sharpshooter.
03:34He's gonna wait now.
03:35He went for the legs that time.
03:37He's gonna keep the man off his feet, keep pounding away on the legs, and
03:41try to soften him up for the sharpshooter.
03:45And we notice that Booker T has a brace on his knee.
03:54Only two after the roll up that followed that Harlem slam, sidewalk slam attempt.
04:02Bret Hart turning his back on Booker T once again.
04:11And Booker T, characteristically, trying to scrape, pull himself up.
04:17And Hart goes for the take.
04:23Once again on the outside.
04:27This fight, taking shape on the outside.
04:32As much as on the inside, the steel sticks expose, that's trouble.
04:39Opening up the hard steel ring post to the back of Booker T,
04:44the World Television Champion.
04:47Well, you have no idea how much that hurts.
04:51Your both legs are numb almost.
04:53You can barely walk, you can barely stand.
04:55And it feels like someone just drove a hot spike into your spine.
04:59It hurts so bad.
05:00In other words, what a great move to set up the sharpshooter.
05:03I would say.
05:04Absolutely it is.
05:06Everything Bret Hart does has a purpose.
05:09It takes away so much power in your legs, it's just so painful.
05:14Can Bret Hart win the World Television Championship here tonight?
05:18In the WCW Midsummer Classic, we'll find out.
05:22There's a backbreaker.
05:24Bret Hart right now has it in high gear.
05:28Up and down.
05:29Booker T.
05:33Only got a two count, but came very close that time.
05:36What do I have to do to beat this man, he's thinking right now.
05:41You're gonna have to be a little better.
05:44Russian
05:49leg sweep.
05:55Covers one, two, no.
05:58Boy, Booker T, now we get a little bit of frustration here for Bret Hart.
06:02After the Russian leg sweep, he looked out to the fans and their disdain for him.
06:08And now he really wants the fans to,
06:10almost as if he's telling the fans to get behind Booker T.
06:13Pump the man up just so I can knock him down again, Mike, today.
06:16Very methodical attack by Bret the Hitman Hart, but
06:19you certainly can't question the effectiveness of it.
06:26I'd be working more on the back.
06:27I'd slap on that abdominal stretch, or I'd give him a couple good hard turnbuckles.
06:32Maybe an atomic drop, go for a backbreaker.
06:35Just keep working on that back, cuz it's injured.
06:40Uppercut, you hear, they're European style.
06:42You hear Billy Silverman, the referee, running Bret Hart.
06:45He is stretching the rules to his advantage.
06:49And now, Bret Hart, you are seeing why Bret Hart has been one of the greats.
06:55I mean, Bret Hart knows how to dismantle an opponent.
06:59There is no denying that.
07:10Booker T rolls him up, got a two count only, and Bret Hart escaped.
07:14See, right there, he doesn't have the strength in his legs anymore.
07:17His back is so injured, and so much pain.
07:20Tried to roll him up out of the corner, but you're right,
07:21he just didn't have the leg pressure.
07:23Come up with the need of the midsection.
07:25And Bret should notice that.
07:27Booker T, where he got that from, I'll never know, but he came away with it.
07:32See, he usually spins up from that break dance position.
07:34He can barely get up.
07:35That's right, Bray, and you're really driving home a good point here,
07:38that he is not the Booker T that we've seen.
07:40But here, he's gonna try maybe the axe kick.
07:43Boy, did he get him with that, in the back of the neck.
07:47But look, look how slow he is getting up.
07:49Yeah, that's the problem.
07:50He's not able to follow up quickly.
07:53Look at how he walks around, he's almost limping.
07:57He may not be the Booker T that we've known because he's taken a lot of
08:01punishment, but he's still Booker T.
08:03He pancaked him that time.
08:04Here comes that break dance to the- Uh-uh, uh-uh,
08:07but he didn't pop up like he usually does.
08:09You're right, he went to one knee, and then got up from there.
08:12Walk it off, that's what he's gotta do.
08:14It's understandable.
08:15Sure.
08:15What he's been through here, he's perched.
08:17He's gonna try here.
08:18Missile drop kick.
08:19Caught him.
08:20Caught Boop right in the face.
08:22Here's the cover.
08:23One, two, and- Uh-uh-uh.
08:25Good under rope.
08:27He knows where he's at at all times.
08:29Springs out of the ring, clear the cobwebs.
08:32That's a pro.
08:34That's one of Booker T's primary moves, the missile drop kick.
08:37Oh, my goodness.
08:39Oh, my goodness.
08:40Back, back, back, back, back, back, back.
08:42Referee calls the bell.
08:43This one's been thrown out.
08:45But he wiped him out with the chair.
08:47He hit him a second time.
08:49Looked like he hit him a second time with the edge of the chair on the back of the head.
08:53And that's the third time now that that chair has come into play
08:57between Bret Hart and Booker T.
09:00He wiped him out with a chair.
09:01And I tell you, he's gonna roll him back in the ring.
09:04He wants to do more to him.
09:05And in this building, we've already seen him here tonight, Stevie Ray.
09:10And you can better believe he's not gonna take much of this.
09:14He's going after that injured leg.
09:15That's what he's doing.
09:16Oh, listen to that.
09:19Booker T will retain the television belt.
09:21But this war, this battle, has been won by Bret the Hitman Hart.
09:27And that's the steel chair.
09:28That's the one with the seat padded.
09:30No, that is the steel chair he's got right there.
09:33And he is- And the kneecap is exposed.
09:35You see it? The kneecap is sticking right out.
09:37Yeah.
09:38Driving the knee in.
09:42And now, he is out to end the man's career.
09:46He's gonna slap that figure four on the post.
09:48Sure. Oh, look at this.
09:49Oh, he's got a knee wrapped around the post.
09:51Oh, my goodness.
09:52All of his weight and all of that pressure now on the already injured knee of Booker T.
09:56Look at Booker T in that ring.
09:57Can you imagine the pain that man's in right now?
09:59Yeah, he needs some help here.
10:00Oh, look at him.
10:02Oh, for goodness sakes.
10:04This could be career ending.
10:05He could shatter that whole kneecap or the ankle right there, get him off him.
10:09And I mentioned Stevie Ray was in the building.
10:11He wrestled earlier.
10:12And we haven't seen anybody to come out and
10:15help Booker T.
10:16He could be gone.
10:17Who knows?
10:18Well, you're right.
10:19But no one's leaving.
10:20No one's leaving with this main event coming up.
10:21Oh, hold on a second now.
10:22As Billy Silverman vainly tries to peel Bret Hart off.
10:29Hart won't let go.
10:30The damage may have been done.
10:31And walking into your screen there, you see Stevie Ray.
10:34Yeah, the key word is walking.
10:36Why is he taking his time getting down to ringside?
10:39It's your brother, man.
10:42And Bret Hart moves away on that one.
10:45But you're right.
10:46You can see him to the left of us.
10:48Ray didn't pick him up until he got to the ring area.
10:51But he walked calmly, almost strolled to Booker T, who's still the television champ.
10:56You think if you saw your brother there helpless and wounded, you'd be going full bore to get
11:01the ring, wouldn't you?
11:02No.
11:03He looks disgusted.
11:04No question.
11:05You know, Stevie Ray kept insisting that Booker T return to his Harlem roots, revert to more
11:10of a street fighting, more of a brawling style.
11:13You think he'd be in the ring showing concern, wouldn't you?
11:16No, he is now.
11:21He needs some help.
11:22He needs to get his brother out of there.
11:24Maybe help him out, walk him out.
11:26Carry him back.
11:27Carry him back if he has to.
11:29Your brother.
11:32Listen to him.
11:33What's he saying?
11:35There he goes.
11:36Help him out.
11:37We're going to get some medical attention here now.
11:38Booker T.
11:39Booker T.
11:40Easy, Stevie.
11:41Easy.
11:42You're going to hurt him.
11:43You're going to hurt him.
11:44Take it easy.
11:45I'm going to let him know to take it easy.
11:46Let me do this.
11:47Come on, Stevie.
11:48Let the doctor attend to him.
11:49Back.
11:50Come on, Stevie.
11:51That's a doctor.
11:52He needs medical attention.
11:53Stevie, back it up.
11:54That's a doctor.
11:55He says he doesn't need any medical help.
11:56I think he does.
11:57He should not walk on this leg at all.
11:58And now Booker T is calling for some more help.
11:59Booker T.
12:00Booker T.
12:01Booker T.
12:02Booker T.
12:03Booker T.
12:04Booker T.
12:05Booker T.
12:06Booker T.
12:07Booker T.
12:08Booker T.
12:09Booker T.
12:10Booker T.
12:12Booker T.
12:13Booker T.
12:14Booker T.
12:15Booker T.
12:16Booker T.
12:17Booker T.
12:18Booker T.
12:19Booker T.
12:20He said he needs medical attention.
12:21I think he does.
12:22I think he needs medical attention.
12:23He called for some more help.
12:24If Billy Shiverman will do something his brother
12:25should do and that is break the law and not
12:26let each other.
