00:00During their discussions, US President Biden and UAE President Zayed both expressed their
00:05concern about the growing humanitarian situation in Sudan.
00:10Since the war broke out in April of last year, tens of thousands of people have been killed,
00:15millions of people have been displaced, and a famine has now been declared.
00:21But these discussions come amid growing scrutiny over the UAE's alleged role in the conflict.
00:28The Emirates has been accused of supporting the RSF by providing them with arms, with
00:34ammunition, with drones and even with intelligence.
00:38The Emirates has also reportedly opened a hospital in neighbouring Chad in order to
00:42treat RSF soldiers crossing the border.
00:46Now this alleged support continues despite an arms embargo having recently been extended
00:53by the UN Security Council, although that embargo has long been criticised for being
00:59ineffective.
01:01Now on Wednesday, a separate meeting will be held as part of the UN General Assembly
01:06that will focus purely on the humanitarian needs in Sudan.
01:11According to the UN, the country has received less than 50% of the aid that it needs.
01:18However, the escalating situation in Lebanon is going to likely divert attention and resources
01:26away from Sudan.
