00:26Palafox round one underway this one now scheduled for six a couple of changes happened at the
00:35weigh-in Sergio Palafox came in but three pounds overweight so we did have to give up
00:39ten percent of his purse this fight was also dropped from an eight rounder to a six rounder
00:46Sergio Palafox coming off a six hundred and twenty nine day layoff yeah Cory I had a chance
00:53to see Sergio Palafox about five years ago on a card outside Toronto and what he who he reminded
01:00me of back then he lost his fight to Andrana Gregoria who was an Armenian based in Montreal
01:05but who he reminded me of was the guy that we saw Santana against about a year and a half ago
01:11remember Brandon Orozco yes yes really good fighter skilled fighter young fighter but was
01:16in too tough too early against a guy like Santana and probably would have had a different career if
01:21he had had some more of the promotional and managerial advantages and that was sort of
01:25Palafox's predicament back then but you see what he has to offer now but it doesn't bode well for
01:32him he missed weight by so much. Not boding well for him but he ate a nice right hand and two good left hooks from Luis Santana as he brings that left hook downstairs
01:41yeah Palafox had a nightmare of a time obviously making weight even before him arriving here Morgan
01:48there was footage on his own social media of him making weight a photo of him and he was in not
01:53just a sauna suit but he had plastic bags around his hands as well that's a new level of commitment
01:59to getting some extra droplets of sweat off your body yeah and in that sense this as the saying
02:05goes the juice ain't worth the squeeze because there's not a lot of water in your hands you
02:08got to go for the big margins if you're gonna do it Santana going back downstairs to the body
02:16not a bad idea given what we know and he no doubt knows about Palafox and his difficulties in making
02:24weight oh he was the first to know about Palafox it's also benefited financially from it so he
02:29certainly knows mentioned Palafox out of the ring for 629 days we last saw him getting knocked out
02:42in two rounds by Daniel Sanchez in December of 2021 he offers up a couple of right hands caught
02:50on the gloves of Luis Santana yeah Palafox just in the two and a half minutes of action we've
02:57seen so far does not have the reflexes the defensive speed to deal with those left hooks

04:43what was an excellent opening round Santana multi-time Canadian national amateur champion
04:49over a hundred amateur victories walk Palafox into that counter right hand there in between
04:59rounds his corner told me he wanted more of the jab earlier in the round we'll see if Santana
05:04follows through you know the career arc of Santana thus far it's been pretty interesting
05:10if it lands a sharp right hand you know had this fight gone to plan this would have been
05:19his fifth scheduled eight rounder in his career Santana just wailing away on Palafox right now
05:25and had Palafox off balance momentarily five scheduled eight rounders nine fights into your
05:32career pretty impressive that's that's a that's a steep learning curve only three knockouts on the
05:42ledger of Santana thus far but as we were talking about with Christopher Guerrero earlier Morgan it
05:49is one of these guys that because he was matched appropriately and in eight rounders might have
05:54looked a little underwhelming to some early in his career but not right now and you also get to
06:01see him develop at that level instead of feeding him a steady diet of people who are way worse than
06:06him and it's tough to see how much he's progressing from fight to fight where's if you keep the bar
06:12at the same level you see how much by how much more he's clearing that bar every time
06:15on his way down Palafox Morgan might be staying down credit to Palafox he did get up he looked
06:34fairly resigned to staying on the canvas a moment ago but Palafox back up and back to action but
06:43plenty of time for Santana to work I think Palafox's mind and his desire and his fighting
06:49spirit are going to carry him to places that his body does not want to go. Santana catching these
06:58shots from Palafox the shorter harder shots from Santana getting there again and again and the
07:04referee is seen enough that is it Luis Santana his 10th professional victory and Palafox is
07:14protesting he feels he wasn't hurt in the moment but that was a good stoppage because it was about
07:19to go downhill for him quickly. A rough weekend overall for Sergio Palafox misses weight by a
07:31couple pounds has to give up 10% of his purse and then is stopped in two rounds by Luis Santana.
07:44Well that is the most impressive victory of Santana's young career. Yeah and again for Santana
07:51if you have a guy in front of you that you know has struggled to make weight why not push the
07:56pace why not test his condition if there's any questions about whether or not he's in shape for
08:00this fight you can answer them early instead of answering them late. And certainly Morgan one of
08:11the one of the misunderstandings I think in boxing is that if a fighter misses weight that necessarily
08:15means he wasn't in shape that might just mean they didn't work quite as hard to cut off those final
08:22pounds. In Palafox's case it didn't look like he was in ample shape and he's working in a 16 by
08:2816 ring and if you're not in shape there's just nowhere to hide. There are a lot of things working
08:32against Sergio Palafox in this fight one of them being Luis Santana's left hook which he landed
08:39over and over again. You see the closing moments of this fight again just too much for the official
08:53to watch. The protest from Palafox but you notice the corner of Palafox was not protesting.
08:59In computer era amateur boxing you might have called that referee's RSC outclassed.
09:08Right. Referee stops contest. Alright we're ready to make this one official let's send it down to the
09:13center of the ring.

09:29stops the fight. Deferring the winner by TKO Luis Santana.
09:43So Luis Santana improves to 10 and 0 as a professional as we've talked about a very interesting career arc
09:51for Santana thus far the way that he's being developed.
