We hit the streets of Birmingham to ask locals about the rise in shoplifting during the cost of living crisis. Should those resorting to theft face legal consequences, or is there room for understanding in desperate times? And how would Brummies react if they witnessed shoplifting?

00:00I have been a situation in shops where shoplifting has taken place and the
00:08people inside the shop have been aware of it. I have alerted them to it and they
00:13said they are instructed not to do anything and not to interfere to keep
00:17for their own safety. Right, I can feel sympathy for like Robin Hood cases I
00:24suppose. I don't think every shoplifting case is like you know obviously ethical.
00:33I don't think everyone should shoplift obviously that's the very stupid thing
00:38to be doing. I think if anything shoplifting doesn't combat the problem
00:43which is the cost of living if anything adds to it.
00:46Well that's a difficult one because we all pay for it, the shops put it on
00:52what we have to pay for so you do feel sorry for people when they're
00:57struggling, you do.
