00:00What's up everyone, this is Noah Dalzell with another episode of You Got Boston and really
00:26excited to be joining you all on this Monday evening to answer all questions related to both
00:31the Celtics which is very front of mind, very pressing with Celtics media day coming up tomorrow
00:38but also an opportunity to discuss WNBA playoffs because I also covered the WNBA for SB Nation and
00:44have been on the ground covering the Connecticut Sun-Indiana Fever series and so lots to discuss
00:51on both fronts. Really excited about the fact that the NBA season is resuming after what feels
00:57like a really long break but it really hasn't been that long since the last things that we've heard
01:02and seen and I'll start off by just kind of giving a run of show for what this these next few weeks
01:07are going to look like. So we have Celtics media day tomorrow that'll be beginning at like 10 a.m.
01:14Probably you'll be hearing from literally every single player on the team, Joe Mizzoula, so this
01:19is maybe one of the only times that we'll hear from certain players. One of the things that I
01:23didn't know when I started covering the Celtics is that you know you hear from the same people over
01:27and over again and then there are certain players like O'Shea Bursette that we really only got to
01:31speak with a few times so I'm trying to be mindful about making sure that if there's like a pressing
01:36question to get to any of those people that we get those in right away so feel free to fire off
01:41suggestions or things that you would like asked as well. So yeah so just starting off there that's
01:50media day tomorrow and this is actually my first media day because when I started covering the
01:53Celtics last year I started I started going in person mid-season and so I actually wasn't
01:58ever at a media day before so I'm super excited about that and then yeah I'll also take questions
02:04if there is questions about the WNBA obviously that's not typically the emphasis and focus of
02:10the show but it also feels like at this moment in time there's a lot of buzz and excitement and so
02:15if there are questions on that front I will take them gladly as well and so with that I'm just
02:20going to start this is not really a question but just for just for clarifying purposes so
02:27my podcast You Got Boston I have my own YouTube channel that you can subscribe to to make sure
02:31you don't miss any episodes and then it also streams on CLNS so if you're watching this in
02:36CLNS feel free to also subscribe to my YouTube channel which is called You Got Boston that just
02:42helps because then you won't that's the only thing on my YouTube channel so you won't miss any episodes
02:45or anything and then obviously you can also subscribe to CLNS if you're on my YouTube
02:50channel right now so but both kind of the same thing as far as I'm concerned but yeah so appreciate
02:56everybody for tuning in it's great to have people on and it's great to have we're gonna have so much
03:00to talk about over these next few days I'm excited to talk about Lonnie Walker I'm excited to talk with
03:05everybody kind of how they spent their summers with Olympians excited to talk to you know Drew
03:09Holiday and Derek White and Jason Tatum how John Brown spent his summer like I feel like even
03:14though obviously they won the championship and there's not like that many good questions as far
03:18as like what this team is going to look like there's just a lot of stuff that I've been watching
03:21online and just been curious about so excited about that and yes I will begin right at
03:31the top first of all shout out to Tom Coolidge I feel like you have been very actively supporting
03:35all these episodes which I very much appreciate because this is just the beginning of starting
03:39a podcast and especially I started it like in August which is not the best time to draw
03:43engagement but I figured we just get started and just give people some content in the offseason
03:47and then obviously I think more people will be interested in things as the season progresses
03:51so I appreciate you tuning in I've been thinking about this a lot what are the questions you are
03:55most looking forward to asking at media day tomorrow is Tom's question I think I'm actually
04:01really curious just about like the well this is going to be for people that know me this is not a
04:05surprising answer but I'm curious about just like what life has changed it has been like since
04:09winning the championship and who feels like it has been a emotional like burden you know removed
04:15and just like they feel a certain level of joy that maybe they didn't reach before and who doesn't
04:20really feel that way and I think it's going to be kind of like an even split like I have a feeling
04:23like Joe Mazzuola and Jill and Brown and some people will say like it didn't really change them
04:27that much and I think we're going to maybe hear from like Al Warford, Jason Tatum types
04:30otherwise also curious about just like the most fun things people did over the summer
04:34not to be like a camp counselor but I just I've been seeing stuff on social media and I think I
04:38might try to do a story where I just kind of highlight like what everybody was up to all
04:41summer and just do like a go-around of who had the trophy and things like that so I'll probably
04:46leave the how are we going to survive without forcing these questions to other people because
04:50I just think that that has been that's been I can kind of figure out what they're going to say to
04:53that so but if people have questions they'd love to see answered asked feel free to put them in
04:58the chat because at the end of the day where our job as reporters is to just ask questions that
05:03are interesting to people so feel free to throw some in and then yeah to answer your second
05:12question Tom question about the sun fever game I don't know I'm curious actually people that are
05:17Celtics fans like are also Sun fans or not I know there's like some regional affiliation with the
05:22fact that they're an hour and a half in Boston but also I know a lot of Celtics fans that are
05:26getting in the WNBA might just be following like a certain team that they're excited about
05:30um so for those of you that did watch yesterday the sun and the fever played in game one
05:35um it's a best of three series in the first round so it's like somewhere in between an NBA
05:39seven game series and March Madness um and basically what what happened was that the sun
05:45was pretty close the first two quarters and the sun kind of blew them out in the second half
05:48and the sun are the number three seed the fever of the number six seed so the sun are technically
05:52fever to win although I think a lot of people think that if there is an upset in the first
05:55round it would be this one because the fever and Caitlin Clark have been really good since the
05:59Olympic break um and so their record is almost like a little deflated from what it would be if
06:04they just took out the first 10 games where they were really bad and kind of figuring things out
06:08um so I think Connecticut will close it out in game two I don't think it's going to be a 24
06:12point blowout the way that it was in game one um but if they lose that game then the deciding game
06:18three goes back to Indianapolis and then I think they'll lose that game so I think this is kind of
06:22like whoever wins game two wins the whole series so it's a high pressure game I'll be in Mohegan Sun
06:27um so I'm actually yeah I'm a busy week Celtics coverage and then also going to be traveling for
06:31WNBA playoffs so I'll be going live probably from uh training camp too and then also probably from
06:36Mohegan just for those of you that are like interested on the WNBA side too um so yeah it's
06:42great environment though it's a lot of like Haytham Clark fans a lot of Iowa jerseys a lot of
06:46Indiana Fever jerseys but also a lot of like diehard Connecticut Sun fans that have been
06:49following this team for 30 years or not 30 years 20 years um so yeah it's been super cool to kind
06:56of get acclimated in that space and um if you're interested in the WNBA if you're just getting into
07:00it I think a lot of people are like you know that are NBA fans or Celtics fans are just starting to
07:04learn I have all my coverage at SBNation.com slash WNBA so you can read I've been doing features on
07:09different players and you can just kind of follow along I'll be posting stuff on Twitter too if you
07:13follow me on for Celtics reasons you'll see some WNBA stuff too um question here what do you think
07:19of the national media disrespect that we are getting at the moment um interesting question
07:27I'm assuming this is in regards to like player rankings and like people thinking the Celtics
07:32had a bad and a really easy route to the championship uh feel free to correct me in
07:37the chat if I'm wrong um but that that'll be my interpretation of that question um I think that
07:43what's happening with the national media is that you got to make things more interesting than they
07:48actually are sometimes and I can just say this as somebody who for most of my life consumed basketball
07:52in the form of being a fan and then for the last year I've been a member of the media and it was
07:56kind of like a rapid transition of taking off like the fan hat and putting on the media hat
08:01um I really I get I get it I get a lot of the things that bother me about media and I get how
08:05they happen like the constant like fabrication of conflicts like I feel like we I always wonder
08:10like why are they always like fighting and why are they always like criticizing people and like
08:14why is there always a debate going on uh it feels kind of like useless but it drives clicks like I
08:18can tell you as somebody who has access to back end analytics for my articles like when I have a
08:23take that's controversial like more people read that uh which makes sense I guess but I think that
08:28when you're thinking about like national media disrespect I almost don't even take it for real
08:31like I don't even view it as like they actually don't think the Celtics were a great team because
08:35by any metric that you look at this was a historically great team and I almost feel like
08:41if you're if you're a legitimate media member that's saying that this was like a cakewalk
08:45championship run and this is not a serious team and whatever like I just kind of do that as like
08:50an engagement thing and maybe maybe that's obvious to people but I honestly didn't realize it until
08:55I started being deeper in the space of like how much of all of this is just about engagement and
09:00it sucks because like you want to be able to just do good work and my philosophy is like and maybe I
09:04hopefully I never burn out from it but my philosophy is like I'm going to keep writing and
09:08saying the things I want to say and like hopefully people care about it but if they don't I'm not
09:11going to like try to do stuff that's just controversial for for the sake of doing that but
09:15I get how it happens like especially when you're talking about big media companies and like the
09:19idea of like wanting to fabricate conflict so my point being is I don't think that people actually
09:22disrespect the Celtics I think that it's like kind of how the media feels they have to keep things
09:28interesting in the same way with like predicting who's going to win in the finals like I genuinely
09:32am surprised I still have a hard time believing that people actually thought that the Celtics
09:36were like the underdogs or it was very evenly split so I don't know maybe that's just my
09:40perspective on it but yeah we'll see um another question here was Kaitlyn Clark purposely poked
09:50in the eye and this is about yesterday's game between the sun and the fever Dejanay Carrington
09:54got her I think she poked her in the eye with a nail um I don't think so I think that Carrington
09:59is just like a great defender and she's very they're a very aggressive team like they play
10:03very aggressively I tell people all the time to watch the NBA or like the NBA is too soft
10:07tell them watch the WNBA you probably won't feel that way anymore um about basketball if you want
10:11to find a professional league that is very aggressive and not soft I think the WNBA is
10:17really not so sometimes that causes conflict and sometimes that causes um flagrant vowels or things
10:23that become controversial but genuinely like I know Dejanay Carrington I know her as a defender
10:28I have a hard time believing that anybody would like purposely put their fingernail in someone's eye
10:32um but I think that she's an aggressive defender and like there probably should have been I mean
10:35that should have been called a foul and it wasn't but that was a missed call that's my perspective
10:39on it at least um question here super excited for tomorrow I'm very curious and hearing from
10:46Tilly Springer Walsh and Shireman um yeah I'm really excited about all those people as well
10:52um I also just think that you know the summer league people I spent a lot of time with because
10:56I was in Vegas for the entirety of summer league which was a blast and also just a great experience
11:00to get to know some of those guys a little bit more um there's like the middle ground of players
11:04that weren't at summer league and also don't do a lot of availability like you know I'm trying to
11:08think who that would even be at this point because there's not that many of them I guess like Nemeas
11:12Cato or Nemeas Cato was actually at summer league um like Lonnie Walker is one because he signed
11:17after the fact uh Peyton Pritchard, Sam Houser, Luke Hornet like the bench players um but yeah
11:25if there again if there are any things you're particularly curious about like feel free to
11:29message me and I can see if we can get it answered or asked about um I think Shireman and Watson
11:34in particular like are gonna are gonna be really like interesting to people just because they were
11:39recently drafted and I'm also going to spend a lot of time in Maine over the next few months
11:42like when I have days where I'm not covering Celtics and I'm not covering WNBA and I'm
11:46available to be I'm here in Boston then I'll I'll be heading over to Maine to talk to those guys
11:50because those guys I presume I really do expect that they'll spend the majority of the year in
11:56Maine even though they're both on the older side I would be very surprised if they were like
12:01specifically in Boston the entire time um unless something goes wrong like someone gets injured
12:07obviously then you need additional bodies and you have two guys that I do think are more close to
12:12being NBA ready than the last two draft picks who were J.D. Davison and Jordan Walsh
12:17and I'm curious about Jordan Walsh because I think he had a really rough summer league but
12:20Bobby Manning of CLNS spoke with Al Horford yesterday and he mentioned that Jordan Walsh
12:24looked good I also think Jordan Walsh looked good in Maine so part of the Jordan Walsh thing is
12:30I do think people like have uh you know he had a tough a tough experience on the brightest stage
12:36as far as like he's concerned like more people tune into summer league than to a lot of other
12:40things relating to the Celtics as far as like practices obviously who aren't available and
12:43I think Maine Celtics games I'd actually be curious like how the attendance uh the viewership
12:48between summer league and the Maine Celtics stacks up I would imagine more people are
12:51watching summer league because there's nothing else but um maybe I'm wrong on that I'll fact
12:56check myself on that one um this is in response to me saying nobody will say it didn't change them
13:02this was in regards to the championship um I actually would not be surprised if Missoula
13:07was like I'm exactly the same I think he might have already said some things like that but
13:11I'll be posting clips and quotes as it relates to that topic but I have a feeling that some people
13:15are like are going to downplay the championship in an effort to kind of like move forward um
13:20but yeah question here from Neil thoughts on Alyssa Thomas's triple double so Alyssa Thomas
13:29is one of the greatest players in the WNBA I think also one of the most underrated um and I
13:34could just say like I'm I grew up watching the NBA and watching the Celtics but not necessarily
13:38watching the WNBA and so I had over the last few years like kind of catch up on all the history and
13:44watching all the great players and kind of learning about everybody and Alyssa Thomas is somebody that
13:48I think is super fascinating because she really can't shoot she has two torn labrums that she
13:53never surgically repaired which is kind of wild to think about when you think about like basketball
13:57players and um and you know I think John Moran just tore his labrum and did surgery and obviously
14:03ended the season so she chose not to have those procedures and in turn she can't shoot like from
14:08deep she can't shoot threes anymore even though she used to be able to um and so her shot looks
14:12kind of funky kind of looks like a push shot but she's an incredible defender an incredible passer
14:17um and is a the all-time leading triple double leader in WNBA history both in the playoffs and
14:22in the regular season and she had a triple double yesterday and honestly like I don't even know that
14:26she realized she had one because when uh when she was asked to speak to Holly Rowe for the silent
14:31interview afterwards she mentioned like why me according to the Sun PR woman who tweeted this out
14:36um so um she's yeah Alyssa Thomas is going to be critical of anything the Sun do during this
14:41playoff run um for those of you who are following along there's a couple weeks left you know there's
14:46another game for this first round then there's the semifinals in the finals and Alyssa Thomas is like
14:50one of the top players in the league she I think came in fourth on the MVP ballot or in fifth
14:55actually um so kind of got consensus around that and her thing is really that she's an all-around
15:01player she kind of does it all um and yeah I think someone here said uh just became a Sun fan
15:07I've always been a UConn fan so why not I think that the UConn fan base makes up a lot of the Sun
15:12fans and so um you know if you're in living in that area like it's another it's the only
15:17professional sports game really in the region in the area so it's it's helpful um question here
15:25from or actually a comment here from Celtics digest I'm excited to see how Keita is also gearing up
15:29for training camp in his first full year in the NBA I also want to hear about how great Horford
15:32Summer has been as a champ very well deserved um ditto super excited about both of those topics
15:38um Al Horford I think I posted this on Twitter but he was in the Dominican Republic
15:43um he received like a medal of honor um which was super cool like he it's like the highest level of
15:49honor in his country um it's not something that I had any heads up about I literally just saw
15:53it on social media and he seemed Joe Mazzuolo was there um and assistant coach Tony Dobbins was also
15:58there so that was just really cool to see the two two coaches from the Celtics organization were
16:05made the trip out with Al Horford and his family to the Dominican Republic to celebrate this
16:09championship and Al had a camp over there as well so I'm sure we'll talk to him a little bit more
16:13about that and I'm sure there'll be some articles about his summer and kind of how he celebrated and
16:17he also probably had less you know worked out less than some of the younger guys and
16:22probably focused on preserving his legs and his energy for this coming year but there were a lot
16:26of rumors last year about Al Horford retiring at the end of the season retiring after a championship
16:30run I disputed them all year I was really confident that was not going to happen and it
16:36aged well because I think Al Horford has at least this year left this year he's under contract for
16:40about 10 million and then I would not be surprised if he resigned in some capacity and uh extended
16:45his career so we'll see I think it's different now that he you know this is the last year of
16:49his contract whether or not he continues but if he's healthy and has a similar yield
16:53year to last year um yeah I think that I wouldn't be surprised to see him again
17:03uh this is the question we're kind of going back and forth here WNBA and Celtics so
17:07bear with me and me I probably should have done like first 15 minutes Celtics for
17:11last 15 WNBA maybe maybe the following ones I will do that because I have some um I'm going to do a
17:16couple more of these hybrid episodes because of the fact that they're both kind of concurrently
17:20happening and I'm at both places at once but this is the question about wouldn't it be fair if the
17:25lower ranked team gets the second game at home in a three-game series um yeah so the way that
17:29it works is that like the three seed gets games one and two at home and then if they split those
17:35games then the sixth seed hosts the deciding game three which kind of sucks for both of them because
17:41on one hand like if you're the worst seed you might not even get a playoff game at home and so
17:47think about like cities that are so excited that your team finally made the playoffs now you have
17:52a playoff game and you're actually not even able to bring it back to your home fans um which is
17:57very possible that that will happen in multiple series because you know if you win the first two
18:01games as the better seed like you never even go on the road and on the other hand it's kind of
18:05unfair that if you are the better team like you had the better record now you have to play a
18:10deciding game on the road so the reason that this is the way that it is it was to save money on
18:14travel costs initially and now there's charter flights the league has more revenue so i do think
18:18we might see it change moving forward yeah this is a comment from tom coolidge this is we're back
18:27on the celtics here but um it felt like the media got bored of the celtics last year since it was
18:31such a dominant season and a lot of the hot takes saw this in the celtics felt like the media not
18:35knowing how to cover them i will emphasize this point i think that because journalism is
18:41storytelling a lot of times and it involves conflict and it involves like having drama
18:46right it's hard to write and talk about nothing or like blowouts um and i can just say like i love
18:52the blast they're fun and i love watching the stay ready guys but like if we do a postgame show after
18:56a blowout win versus like an overtime loss like more people are tuning in to the overtime lost
19:01one right so it gets kind of hard from a media standpoint especially when you're thinking about
19:05like you run a company and you like need engagement right it's different for me when
19:08like i'm just doing this as a person but you know i think there's a lot of concern with like how are
19:13we going to make like drive interest when they're just crushing everybody and so then that's where
19:18some of the like fabrication of conflict comes from in my opinion um and probably some of it
19:23is people actually being like they're not that good which is fair um everybody is entitled to
19:26their own opinion but i think it's a combination of the two question here who are you most excited
19:32to see from the stay ready group um let me think i'm well i'm really excited to talk to Lonnie
19:40Walker because he's new obviously and so i've never spoken with him before i'm curious to see
19:45like how this happened i think anything that he says is going to be interesting whether it's that
19:50he has like i'm curious if like this exhibit 10 deal if there's anything more to it that we don't
19:55know there's been a lot of speculation around whether or not he will be staying with the
19:59organization longer term or not and you know anything that he says i think tomorrow will be
20:03revealing in some sense um always nice to see the younger guys like how their first summer and first
20:09training camp is looking up to be you know they've already been working out together for a few weeks
20:13so that's been great to you know i'd love to i'm curious to hear about like how is Baylor
20:17Shireman and Anton Watson's adaptation of the NBA coming um it's funny i keep wanting to say like
20:23Zvi and O'Shea but those two guys are not going to be there this year they're the two losses from
20:27last season um and it's weird because O'Shea is still a free agent and i hope that he finds a
20:32spot in the NBA but it looks like he might have taken a not so great gamble with the not not
20:38opting into the second year of his contract so we'll see but excited to see everybody i guess
20:42uh Keita is one from like a basketball standpoint that i i'm really high on him i've i did my 10
20:47predictions episode on the Celtics and i talked about like what are the main things that i'm
20:51really excited about and my predictions and one of them is that i do think Keita will be
20:56um a big piece of this rotation moving forward i really do think that obviously could be wrong but
21:02i between him Tillman and Cornette i think that he has the highest upside and that or at least
21:07early on there will be some emphasis and effort on on trying to see if there's something there
21:12and there's something there with him and we'll take a quick break and a message from our friends

22:23So there's a question here about Lonnie Walker. Do you think everybody is sleeping on Lonnie Walker
22:27especially Bobby? I'm assuming this is in reference to the fact that Bobby's not sure if Lonnie is
22:31going to get a regular uh the 15th spot on the roster. I don't know if it's people sleeping on
22:38his abilities because I think I hope that most people in the media like understand recognize
22:44that he's a very good basketball player and there's a reason why he's averaged almost 10
22:47points a game in his career and he's had really high moments um and I do think the fact that he's
22:52floating around here is not a product of his skills or ability and it's more a product of
22:56the fact that this whole NBA situation right now with the way that new contracts are going there's
23:02a middle class that's kind of been left out and O'Shea Brissett is another one like doesn't have
23:06a contract right there's so many players Markel Foles I just looked at a list of like best free
23:10agents available and I was like jeez like there are a lot of people that I would have for sure
23:15thought that would already be signed by now and maybe some of them not even to minimum contracts
23:18and so I think people are the reason that there's not this like oh Lonnie Walker is going to be this
23:24great bench score on the Celtics is because a lot of people myself included you know are a little
23:29bit incredulous of the fact that they might take this 15th spot and fill it up in September um and
23:34so that's where my hesitation comes from and not because I think you know they should keep a spot
23:41open because they need to for safety reasons it's because I've asked Brad Davis that question and
23:45multiple times we've you know heard him discuss this topic on one hand or another and he has made
23:50very clear that they like keeping that spot open especially for the first few months of the year
23:55and so to me to go into the season and right away fill in that spot like I don't know I just don't
24:01think that that would be that seems a little unlikely to me um then again maybe they're
24:06thinking like we actually got a steal and this is better than anything we could do with this 15th
24:10spot and that actually Lonnie Walker is like a dream pickup and that he's not a he's not a training
24:15camp deal kind of player which I don't think he is so that's where my hesitation comes from it's
24:19nothing reflective on Lonnie Walker it's more about like just the idea of this roster and the
24:23fact that the front office has just really expressed routinely how important it is to keep that spot
24:27open um I'm gonna actually go through these questions first then I'll end with WNBA questions
24:39just so we're not going back and forth um do you think Pritchard has a shot at sixth man of the
24:47year um I don't think he has a great shot um mostly because I do think sixth man of the year needs to
24:53be like a top three or four score on a team for the most part um and Pritchard won't be so to me
25:01like it's a very stat heavy award um and so even if he's really impactful and he has great plus
25:07minus numbers which I think those both of those things are near certainties like if he's averaging
25:12seven eight points a game like he's just not going to be in the conversation for it and there's going
25:16to be guys like Nas Reed who continue to come off the bench and play starter minutes and so it's
25:21hard to compete against those guys but I would like to see him take another jump and I think that
25:24he can make a leap even though he obviously made one heading into last year he's in that category
25:29I put Sam Hauser in this confrontation as well where like they can just go they can continue to
25:33improve year after year I don't think that they've like reached their prime or their peak yet
25:38over under on number of jokes Cornette makes I'm going to use this comment as a plug to shout out
25:44an article that Jack Simone uh wrote for Harden Houdini formerly from Celtics blog um and he
25:50interviewed a bunch of people in Cornette's like life and childhood and upbringing um and not maybe
25:56not upbringing but like high school and former teammates and things about how Cornette has always
26:00been really funny so I will um I will you can google Lou Cornette Harden Houdini or I can find
26:06the link but I'll probably get distracted if I go look for it so um is there a way to follow the
26:13media day live streams on YouTube I'm not sure I would imagine CLNS is doing some things live
26:18streaming um and then I know that there's like live coverage on on TV as well but let me I will
26:25post this on Twitter when I find out um I'll be posting like regular updates and clips I'm assuming
26:30you want to see like the full thing no interruptions um I bet somewhere if not CLNS then
26:36somewhere on TV they'll do it so let me let me confirm that and I will I'll tweet it out when I
26:40learn if the Celtics repeat where do you put them among all-time teams Jordan's Bulls, Jack and
26:46Kobe Lakers, Big Three Heat, Warrior and Spurs Dynasties? Well I think you got to think about
26:52more than one title more than two titles at that point so that's that's all tough conversation and
26:56I think we're talking three-peats here um yeah not yet but I will say like in my lifetime the
27:04only teams that have won multiple championships are the LeBron Warriors or the Big Three Heat I
27:10should say sorry the LeBron Heat or the Warriors um I guess the Spurs kind of but I was young so
27:17to me like this they would become like an all-time great team of my in my lifetime um but you've got
27:22to get more than two rings to be in that kind of conversation long you know big picture um but it
27:28is kind of remarkable that since 2017 we haven't seen a repeat championship winner so I think that
27:32like you have to imagine that if you're a team that just won the championship and the Celtics
27:36obviously are like this is you you're super excited by this concept like the idea that you
27:42might be able to be the first team to go back-to-back in almost a decade like that's a lofty
27:48thing um and it's something that right now like teams can think about and can speculate on but
27:53only the Celtics are actually positioned to go back-to-back and so they've seen a long like a
27:57long list of teams that have not been able to do it between the Nuggets uh the Bucks you know every
28:02team in the last six years has not been able to do it so you know that's motivation I think and
28:07that's part of why I feel really confident in this team is that you know there's going to be
28:11I can already hear the talking points I can already hear their mindset and their perspective
28:14and it's just it's the same as last year as I would imagine just with a different end goal in
28:18mind um and you know obviously like maybe a little bit more buy-in a little bit more faith that they
28:22can get this done. Comment here on O'Shea Burr said I'm so frustrated though she has not signed
28:28yet also I agree with your namey take I've been high on him since they acquired him um yeah I
28:33feel so bad for O'Shea and honestly like maybe there's something in the works that I don't know
28:36about but it's late September training camps Celtics start tomorrow Nuggets are tomorrow I
28:41don't know if people know this but the Celtics and the Nuggets are playing in Abu Dhabi two
28:44pre-season games so that's why they start a week before everybody else which to me feels like kind
28:49of a big disadvantage of like having less off-season and more miles flying and everything
28:53but I'm sure they agreed to be a part of it for a reason um and but anyways yeah like training
28:58camps around the corner O'Shea Burr said is not yet signed um and I feel I feel for him because
29:04I think that he is an NBA player but I'm realizing the longer I do this and the longer the closer I
29:09pay attention and that like there are a lot of great NBA players that will not be in the NBA
29:13and there's a lot of luck that's involved um I had on the show Dana Altman the coach of Oregon
29:19if you go to my YouTube channel you can find that episode and you can watch that as well if you're
29:24interested um would highly recommend it it was a really good conversation but Dana said to me we're
29:29talking about kind of like luck actually I'm gonna put a link here um we're talking about luck and
29:34just like making it an NBA he coached Peyton Pritchard in college he also coached Kyle Korver
29:38Dylan Brooks and he mentioned like Kyle Korver literally when he was on the 76ers like he
29:45they almost waived him and you know that he almost wasn't in the NBA he almost didn't even have a
29:50career and instead he became an all-star and an all-time three-point leader and just had this
29:54phenomenal career and so not saying that O'Shea Burr said it's going to be a star if he gets a
29:58chance but like the difference between having an NBA career and not having a career at all I think
30:03is a lot of a much more of a fine line than I had ever known and I'd ever imagined um and so
30:09yeah it's a pretty wild thing to consider and O'Shea obviously had the player option so for
30:14those of you that don't know what that means like he had the opportunity to opt into the second year
30:19of his contract and would have been on the Celtics this year but he opted out and said he was a free
30:23agent and he has just been testing the marketplace and um I'm assuming that he hasn't gotten anything
30:29substantial or else he would have taken that and so maybe in hindsight like he should have opted
30:33in maybe there's something that I'm not aware of I don't have I haven't spoken to anybody in his
30:38team or anything like that so um but yeah okay interesting question here from Ben where does
30:45Al Horford rank among starters in the NBA starting centers in NBA I'd probably have to get a full
30:53list but I would I would imagine he's somewhere in the middle somewhere like an average um not
31:00just I don't know if that's going to be construed as an insult or a compliment but I mean there's
31:05obviously the stars there's the yokiches and beads of the world but then there's also centers that I
31:09just wouldn't trust as much as Al so for what Al lacks in in maybe individual scoring or athleticism
31:16at this point in his career I think that he makes up for it in switchability and uh three-point
31:20shooting and just being a smart veteran player so oh and not yeah not a grade of rankings off the
31:26top of my head that if I looked at a list I would I would guess like 16 um and start as far as
31:31starting centers go um yeah this was and this was when I was talking about Pritchard but Celtics
31:38were too stacked for him to win maybe he'll play for another team so again when I did this episode
31:43with uh Dana we had this whole conversation around Pritchard and he said like for him it's a really
31:48good thing to be on the Celtics um and to win and to win a championship like it's more it's better
31:54than and better than anything you could really hope for in the NBA and like you're better off
31:58being there I'm going to link that episode um but obviously like individual athletes like he's
32:04leaving someone on the table here playing for the Celtics so I think what I think will happen with
32:08Pritchard's career is that he's going to have a couple years where he's on the Celtics you know
32:13and then eventually he will find himself on a team where he has a larger role um and then we'll see
32:17we'll see all this conversation around the ceilings that I've been a part of like we will see um
32:23oh thank you CLNS will be live streaming media day this was from a while back but thank you I'm
32:29assuming that's Ahmet um okay yeah this is so true Cornette should start a pod um yeah he would be so
32:39good at anything media related that he does he he commentated on like a main Celtics game for like a
32:44quarter last season I wonder if he'll do more of that I think that he's the kind of guy that maybe
32:48like doesn't have the longest NBA career maybe he fades out at age 33 or something and then he
32:54goes into the media space so I've heard he wants to become a teacher um but I do think that like
32:59media he's meant for it being that funny being that well-spoken obviously knowing a lot about
33:03basketball having the connections he kind of has everything you need um do you think Peyton
33:10Sealing is like a Van Fleet type? Yeah I mean I don't know if Van Fleet was ever that efficient
33:18I'd have to go back to look at his numbers but I guess so I think that's a fair ceiling to give him
33:23um you can probably go a little higher like best case scenario but I think that right now I'm sure
33:28he would take that career in a moment if he could um and just a quick message from our friends over
33:35at Game Time. I love going to events right now it's football season love going to football games
33:40concerts um really any events living in Boston you can just put in any event into the Game Time app

34:16already see there's lots of great deals there are super deals um different tiers of deals and basically
34:22as I'm looking I'm able to actually see what the actual uh perspective of the court is from that
34:27particular seats I have to make sure I don't want to get them seats that are in the balcony that are
34:30too far away I can see what the court view is going to look like um from those seats so that's
34:36that way I can I'm able to choose without just looking at a seat number which maybe doesn't mean
34:39anything to me I'm able to see right away uh that this is a seat that I want to buy for my family
34:43members for opening night so they can see the ring ceremony and the banner raising and all that fun

35:37okay so I'm catching up here on these comments I'm seeing that both CLNS and
35:40NBC Sports Boston will be live streaming media day on YouTube so feel free to tune in to those
35:46I figured that I figured as such but that's good to have that confirmation um and then yeah I'll
35:50have some articles and stories and um I will be going live at some point for the answer questions
35:55from media day probably tomorrow evening um probably around the same time but once I get
35:59the schedule for everything tomorrow I'll have a better sense so we'll do like like today's like
36:04the preview episode and then tomorrow we'll do like a follow-up on like everything that happened
36:08um yeah so so appreciate all those of you who have questions again if you have questions you'd
36:13like to see asked like obviously can't make any promises but feel free to send messages and then
36:17we can kind of follow up on all that tomorrow gonna take a couple more questions here on the
36:24tatum threes um yeah I'm curious I know that they are he's been kind of hinting at them I know
36:32there are some other reporters that are more on the shoe beat than me um so I will also ask them
36:36to see if they have any intel on the on the shoe front um yeah this is the thing so Joe Mazula I'm
36:45sure a lot of you guys have seen this but he was on Locked on Celtics and he did an exclusive
36:50interview with John Corrales where he talked about a bunch of different things very much worth
36:54a listen but also talked about attacking the season instead of defending a championship and
37:00kind of not having this passive mentality going into the season um and I think that it's that
37:06episode and just that season and everything really to me was like a perfect illustration of how the
37:11Celtics are going to enter the season um and it's not going to be like championship hangover I really
37:16don't think we're going to do championship hangover we might see them lose more because
37:19they rest guys and they don't play as well um and that might sound like a championship hangover
37:23but I don't think it's going to have the typical makeup of like they just kind of like partied all
37:27summer and like they showed up and they have a little bit of like uh taking things for granted
37:31and they lose some easy games early on like I don't think so okay I think Joe Mazula is going
37:35to be kind of ingraining within them this mentality of like you are going to look at the season and
37:40forget the championship and restart the habits from square one and Tatum has talked about it
37:45this offseason and so has Joe Mazula um so we'll see I'm sure we'll get a lot more quotes about
37:50attacking this season tomorrow at media day um sure Jalen Brown I mean we talked to Jalen Brown
37:55at summer league this was just a couple weeks after the championship but he was already like
37:58on to the next so there's going to be a number of people on that team that are going to be really
38:04pushing this idea of like you don't need to um we're not like repeating we're not defending we're
38:10like we're going we're starting at square one and like really fighting for this thing and and
38:15there's no reason to be passive because everybody now like history has shown how hard it is to win
38:18back-to-back so I don't think you're going to need to like really convince anybody if that makes sense
38:24um but yeah I think this idea of like the whole league is gunning for the Celtics like that's
38:32what happens when a team wins the championship right and so like last year I think the Nuggets
38:36had it and Jamal Murray talked about being be hunted um instead of hunting and so like the
38:42Nuggets I think to me had like a classic championship hangover last season um where it was so obvious
38:47like that's exactly what it looked like um you know obviously they dealt with injuries and things
38:52too but you know yeah I think like that you you don't want to have this mindset of like we're
38:56defending and everybody is coming out to get us because then you're you're going to be on the
38:59wrong end of a lot of matchups um I think the big thing that everybody's wondering about at least in
39:03the Celtics media world or those of you that are really following everything is how is how was the
39:09team going to fare without Chris Opspor saying it's actually surprised there were no questions
39:12about that in the chat um but yeah I think that there's going to be guys that have to step up and
39:18take an increased role and there's going to be mistakes made as a result so you might see games
39:22where you're like why are they why does the defense look terrible and maybe it's because
39:26Yamil Shakeda and Luke Hornet are sharing the floor or one of those guys is playing a little
39:30out of position so I think there's going to be a a certain margin of error that fans are going to
39:35have to get used to um that's not going to be indicative of low effort or lack of focus but
39:39of the fact that like without Corzines are not going to put the miles an hour for the way they
39:43did in the postseason in the postseason I think like it was all about just getting to the finish
39:48line um but I don't think that'll be the case in this situation so we'll see um what's the
39:56motto for this year I don't know I I've noticed the different that it's different here motto is
40:01gone as far as like it doesn't have the Celtics logo next to it anymore so there's definitely
40:05going to be a new motto um I will let you guys know when it when I hear anything but I'm assuming
40:12it'll just be rolled out by the Celtics organization so um people will probably see it
40:16online but yeah I'm trying to think like there have been it's all about 18 is the one that I
40:20really remember like from being a kid and being like they're going to get this championship and
40:24then it's kind of wild to think that like the whole verbiage around 18 is gone now because it's
40:28all about 19 now which is so hard to think about so um and yeah opening night October 22nd um
40:37if you go on game time I'm like I've been monitoring the prices right now it's like two
40:41two tickets for like $900 as far as like the cheapest get-in prices I don't know if they're
40:46going to go up or down I've been kind of monitoring them because I'm getting my dad and my brother
40:49tickets so we'll see but hopefully it's a it's a good Celtics win um in either case though it's
40:54kind of worthwhile as a fan because you get the you get to watch like the banner celebration and
40:58the ring ceremony everything so like you know you get that regardless of how the game pans out but
41:02obviously it's more fun um but yeah and then thank you I'm going to plug this I had an interview with
41:07my dad and Dana Altman uh my dad played basketball for a long time and uh Dana Altman the coach of
41:14Oregon they were teammates in college at Eastern New Mexico so um it was a fun conversation it was
41:19kind of funny to interview somebody alongside my dad um and you guys can if you tune into that one
41:25you can see where I learned my love of yapping for 40 minutes straight because my dad also does
41:31um so tune into that I put a link in the chat but again please do subscribe to UGOD Boston
41:37um if you're watching this on Twitter or on CLNS like that's where like all my episodes are going
41:42to be and there's going to be like a much bigger frequency of episodes moving forward
41:46as we head into training camp media day and everything um and I'm also going to do some
41:50WNBA specific things even though I know that right now the majority of my audience is still
41:55you know Celtics um I'm going to just scroll through to see if there are any WNBA questions
42:01that I missed that's an official end of Celtics questions but I also know I said I was going to go
42:06back to some I feel like there was something about Marina Mabry oh yeah I'll just say like the
42:12Celtics have a big acquisition sorry the Sun have made a big acquisition it's very unusual in the
42:17WNBA to make a mid-season trade um and they did they shipped out two veterans for Marina Mabry
42:23who is who was a player on the Chicago Sky who is not like a star but averaged around 15 a night and
42:29was a good three-point shooter and she has just changed the game for Connecticut they were a
42:33really bad three-point shooting team not Celtics vibes very opposite of that um and then now they
42:38have her she's been shooting like 42% from three had 27 points in game one so Marina's great she's
42:44a big Celtics fan big Jason Tatum fan I've spoken to her a couple times um and so if you're trying
42:48to figure out where you fall on the WNBA spectrum tune in to the Connecticut Sun they're big Celtics
42:52fans if nothing else you guys have that in common um but yeah she's just one of those like kind of
42:57snipers that changed the complexion of the team because they weren't really able to create offense
43:01quite as much without her um and now they have the ability to have somebody alongside like their
43:06stars of Dewana Bonner, Alyssa Thomas, Eugenie Carrington like somebody else that could just
43:10self-create so I did a story on her this morning for SB Nation about how she kind of changed the
43:16landscape of the championship battle there's four teams that are on the way to a championship
43:22I think there's four that are in the mix um and I think the Sun are one of them
43:25so the Aces, Las Vegas is another, the New York Liberties another um and the Minnesota Lynx those
43:31are the four that I like could see winning the championship anybody else I'd be very surprised so
43:35we'll see but it should be a really fun couple of weeks in the WNBA playoffs um and again like
43:42Celtics preseason begins at the same time so to me for me this is going to be like the busiest
43:46month of the season so um I know the regular season's not starting yet the finals for the
43:50WNBA and like two days before the Celtics uh season officially begins so um and there was
43:57another question here on the WNBA front I see um how did the Indiana Fever get a win in game two
44:04is it just as simple as Caitlyn shooting better because she had a lot of open looks that didn't go
44:07in um yeah honestly so I think for those of you that have tuned into like my coverage of the
44:14Celtics like I think a lot of times basketball analysis is as simple as like somebody had a
44:19bad shooting game and it's not reflective of like them not being good shooters or even the
44:23defensive coverage being like so great um and this came up a lot like Tatum over this over the spring
44:29it came up with Al Horford earlier in the playoffs when he was struggling um and the reality is I
44:33think Caitlyn Clark is obviously a phenomenal shooter she was saw a lot of different coverages
44:38yesterday she had Dawana Bonner on her points she had um Marina Mabry even D.J. Carrington who was
44:43on the lead defender they were throwing different things at her Dawana Bonner's length I think was
44:47disruptive but at the end of the day like I think she just missed easy shots more than anything and
44:51she talked about a post game she got the black eye you know big stage all that I think above all
44:56those things she just had a bad shooting game um and so to me like that's we're gonna see her bounce
45:02back she's a great player um and I would imagine the game two is closer um even if the sun are on
45:08top I don't think they're gonna win by 24 that's my prediction um but we'll see um and yeah this
45:15is a good comment Nafisa Collier is underrated um maybe some of you don't even know who she is
45:23but she is the star player on the Minnesota Lynx and I do think that she is somebody that
45:28for some reason just like hasn't got national attention yet um and maybe this is the playoff
45:32one what I found with the WNBA and like making people mainstream is that it's a lot of
45:36like when somebody plays Kaitlyn Clark now because that game got a lot of eyes because of Kaitlyn
45:41like now whoever she's playing against also gets a lot of eyes and so and then that person becomes
45:45well known and whoever they play so like it's kind of like this spreading effect almost um and
45:50Nafisa Collier and the Lynx I think have just been flying under the radar of the WNBA and they've been
45:54really good but just haven't won haven't won the kind of hearts and eyes of the nat of the
45:59nation yet and she came second in MVP voting um Asia Wilson and the Aces they've won championships
46:05um and so I think they have a lot of um they have more media coverage for that reason more
46:09name recognition because they've been there you know um and also I think that they're very kind
46:14of like bigger personalities and spokespeople I did a story on Asia Wilson last week um that you
46:19guys can check out as well on SB Nation um okay I'm going to wrap things up unless there are any
46:27like pressing last second questions but I assume there are not um just want to once again plug
