Harris pushes for second debate as she sets to release new economic proposals this week

As she readies to roll out details of her economic plans later this week, US Vice President Kamala Harris is pushing for a new debate next month as the Nov. 5 election nears, while former President Donald Trump is declining, citing the start of early voting in some states.

On Sunday September 22, Harris urged Trump to accept a proposal to debate on CNN on Oct. 23, as a follow-up to their Sept. 10 debate on ABC.

Harris plans to roll out a new set of economic policies that aim to help Americans build wealth and set economic incentives for businesses to aid that goal, three sources with knowledge of the matter said.

00:00Well, you probably heard I would like another debate, so I'm hoping the former Vice President
00:05will agree to that. But we have a lot more to discuss.
00:08You raised $27 million from this fundraiser. That's the largest since you raised, since
00:13you were at the top of the ticket. That's a lot of money. How are you feeling about
00:17that?
00:18Well, it's showing that there's a lot of support for our message and what we need to do in
00:24terms of, you know, moving forward and charting a new way forward and dispensing with all
00:29the attempts to divide our country and to just, you know, really... The problem, I think,
00:36on the other side is that there is a devaluation of who the American people are. They just
00:41don't really understand that we've got a lot of good people in our country who want to
00:46work hard and do well and want a leader who believes that we're, you know, in this together.
00:52And I do.
00:53Are you giving an economic speech this week, Madam President?
00:55Yes.
00:56Can you tell us anything about what that's going to be about in the preview?
00:58So, I'm going to be giving a speech this week that is really to outline my vision for
01:04the economy. As you've heard me talk about, I believe in what we can create in terms of
01:09opportunity for the American people. I've named it an opportunity economy, which really,
01:14in short form, is about what we can do more to invest in the aspirations, the ambitions
01:21and the dreams of the American people while addressing the challenges that they face,
01:26whether it be the high price of groceries or the difficulty in being able to acquire
01:31home ownership, because for a number of reasons, including we don't have enough houses to buy.
01:35Will the fair economy be part of this?
01:37I will touch on it for sure. Yeah.
01:39Do you have any message to Donald Trump as he falls for a second President? I know you
01:43chose your donor, but he's looking for anything to do, for a reason not to. What's your message
01:48to him?
01:50Join me on the debate stage. Let's have another debate. There's more to talk about. And the
01:54voters of America deserve to hear the conversations that I think we should be having on substance,
02:01on issues, on policies. What's your plan? What's my plan? And we should have another
02:06one before Election Day. Thank you all.
