The State Government says its new road safety campaign aims to change the culture around speeding, with more than 50 per cent of WA drivers of the view that speeding is ok. The new tack follows a road safety roundtable this month, which called for more targeted and harder-hitting advertising.

00:22A road safety advocate who was in a horrific crash which left him and three others with permanent disabilities is backing the initiative.

00:36He was actually told to slow down by two people in that vehicle and unfortunately that didn't happen
00:45and the consequences, we hit a tree head on over 100km an hour in a 60 zone.

00:54The Road Safety Commissioner says despite roads and cars becoming safer, there remains a cultural problem.
01:00We have 87%, 80 plus percent of people who admit to speeding.
01:04We have 50 plus percent of people who think that speeding is okay and that's the change we need to make.
01:11The next phase of the campaign will include videos produced from the Kimberley region
01:14aimed at Aboriginal people who are three times more likely to die in a car crash.
01:19All with the goal to prevent further tragedies.
