00:00The devil's in the details, and Agatha All Along literally didn't waste a second before
00:05dropping hints about what's to come.
00:07Did you catch these small details in the first two episodes?
00:10Agatha All Along doesn't waste any time with the Easter eggs, as the first episode opens
00:15with Agnes O'Connor, the prestige crime drama version of Agatha Harkness, humming a tune.
00:19It may not ring any bells at first, but it soon becomes apparent this song will come
00:32up repeatedly throughout the show.
00:34The track in question is The Ballad of the Witch's Road, written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez
00:39and Robert Lopez, who also wrote all of the catchy jingles for WandaVision.
00:43The first time we hear the full song, it's actually more of a variant, a folk rock iteration
00:47befitting a crime drama show.
00:49Later, we hear the proper witchy chant, and by that point, anyone who paid attention to
00:53this year's D23 Expo already had a good idea of what to expect.
00:57That's where Katherine Hahn and much of the main cast took to the stage to perform their
01:01spookier version of The Ballad of the Witch's Road, which is what we hear in Episode 2.
01:06This is also the episode in which viewers learn that Agatha can have her powers restored
01:10by traveling down the Witch's Road.
01:12So with Agatha humming it in the first episode, it appears a part of her has been trying to
01:16escape her TV-centric imprisonment from the first second she's on screen.
01:21When Agatha's in her true detective mode on Episode 1, she's investigating the murder
01:25of a Jane Doe.
01:26The woman checked out a library book before her death that was called Dialogue and Rhetoric,
01:30known history of learning and debate.
01:33Agatha's witch's sense must be tingling as she realizes that the first letter of each
01:37word in the title spells out Darkhold.
01:40Audiences should already know the truth about the Darkhold from WandaVision, as it's initially
01:44in Agatha's possession and allows her to manipulate Wanda.
01:47However, Wanda takes control of the powerful, magical book and tries to use it to dreamwalk
01:52in her guess to get new children from another universe in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse
01:56of Madness.
01:57Agatha has also circled the name of the book's author, Andrew Ugo.
02:01That's actually an anagram for Wundergour, the mountain where the Darkhold castle resides.
02:05It's there the Darkhold was transcribed.
02:08Mount Wundergour.
02:11Wunder eventually obliterates the Darkhold castle at the top of the mountain, in turn
02:14destroying every Darkhold copy in every universe and sacrificing her own life in the process.
02:20Agatha all along seemingly confirms Wunder's death, making her the Jane Doe at the center
02:25of Agatha's case.
02:26The question moving forward is, will Wunder stay dead?
02:29This next easter egg is open to a few different interpretations.
02:33When Agatha is wandering the library, one of the titles in clear view in a sea of books
02:37is a large hardback copy of Stephen King's Skeleton Crew.
02:41On one hand, it could merely be a relatively creepy Marvel show tipping its hat to the
02:45prolific horror author.
02:46It could also be a small nod to the story Grammar, which is about a grandmother who
02:50tries to possess the body of her grandson after death.
02:53It's an appropriately spooky story for Agatha all along to invoke.
02:57The Skeleton Crew is also the name of a Marvel Comics team of villains.
03:00It was founded by Red Skull, and had various members over time, like Crossbones, Blackwing,
03:05and Mother Night.
03:07It's pretty unlikely this crew would pop up in Agatha all along, but it may just be a
03:11reference for diehard Marvel fans.
03:13It just so happens that Skeleton Crew is also the title for a new Star Wars series coming
03:17out later this year.
03:19It may be the most cynical and least likely interpretation, but some people saw the book
03:23and theorized that Disney was dropping some subliminal hints to prime folks for the upcoming
03:28show.
03:29There was plenty of talk about whether the MCU would introduce a comic book character
03:33Nicola Scratch in WandaVision, with Agatha's pet rabbit being named Señor Scratchy.
03:37The reference didn't really go beyond that, but now, Agatha all along is doubling down
03:42on potentially introducing Agatha's son.
03:44Seek It!
03:45Thou!
03:46The Road sees Agatha enter a child's bedroom while she's still playing detective.
03:49The room contains trophies for her missing child, Nicola Scratch, as well as a rabbit
03:53statue, further hinting at a connection between the pet and her son.
03:57Scratch is, indeed, Agatha's son in the comics.
04:00He's also a skilled magic user who oversees life at New Salem, Colorado.
04:04Agatha leaves this community to try to be normal and actually becomes a nanny to Reed
04:08and Sue Richard's son, Franklin.
04:11Scratch sends witches after Agatha to bring her back to stand trial, but through his actions,
04:15the town ends up banishing him to the Dark Realm.
04:17Clearly, if Nic Scratch is going to show up in the MCU, that backstory will require changing.
04:23Right now, the most likely candidate for being Scratch in the flesh is the unnamed teen,
04:27who has a bit of an attitude.
04:28"...What were you looking for in my house?"
04:32"...The respect of your peers in a fulfilling home life.
04:34But you were fresh out of…
04:36BOOBS."
04:37He's unable to tell Agatha anything about himself, and he even mentions that his mother
04:41has passed away.
04:42With Agatha missing a son, and the teen at least believing his mother's dead, it would
04:45make sense for them to fill in each other's blanks.
04:48Nicola Scratch
04:49Nicola Scratch has merely one possibility to be the teen's true identity, and it may
04:52be a bit of a stretch in all honesty.
04:54It's clear there are higher forces at play that prevent the teen from saying his name,
04:58or even revealing any backstory about himself to Agatha.
05:02Right now, the prevailing theory seems to be that the teen will end up being Billy Maximoff,
05:06who dons a superhero moniker of Wiccan.
05:09Billy has already been introduced into the MCU on WandaVision as Wanda's conjured son.
05:13He appears still very much as a young child in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness,
05:18but many assume he'll come back in some way as part of the Young Avengers, which was finally
05:22set up in the Marvels with a scene in which Ms. Marvel recruits Kate Bishop.
05:26What do you want?
05:27I'm putting together a team, and I want you on it.
05:31Wiccan is part of that lineup in the comics, so it makes sense for him to enter the fray
05:34at some point.
05:35All things are possible with the multiverse and magic, so there's no shortage of explanations
05:40for how the teen could be Billy.
05:41Additionally, Billy has a boyfriend in the comics, and we see the teen's boyfriend try
05:45to call him in Episode 2.
05:47All signs appear to point to the teen being Wiccan, but those clues could easily be red
05:51herrings to throw viewers off.
05:53In Episode 1, when Agatha interrogates the teen, the clock in the room is stuck at 333,
05:58and that's not the only one.
05:59Earlier, when Agatha is talking to Agent Vidal in the station, the clock in the background
06:03is also stuck at 333.
06:05This could be a reference to numerology, where 333 is the angel number, and supposedly indicates
06:11that someone is watching over you.
06:12For Agatha all along, this might mean there's someone watching over Agatha, although whether
06:16it's a benevolent or malevolent force remains to be seen.
06:20333 is also half of 666, referred to in the Bible as the number of the beast and associated
06:25in popular culture with the devil.
06:27It's worth pointing out here that Vidal is present in both of these scenes where 333
06:32is prominently visible.
06:33Is the time on the clock to hint that Vidal is really Blackheart, like a lot of fans have
06:37been theorizing?
06:38"...it really warms the heart."
06:40"...you don't have a heart."
06:41"...yes, I do.
06:43It's black."
06:44In the comics, Blackheart is the child of Mephisto, who's more or less Marvel's Satan.
06:48Is Vidal's presence around all the 333s hinting at sort of a half-of-666 deal?
06:53Maybe, maybe not, but there's definitely something going on with those clocks, and it's worth
06:58keeping an eye on the time in future episodes.
07:00The main clue in Agatha's Jane Doe case is initially a library card, indicating when
07:05dialogue and rhetoric, known history of learning and debate, was checked out of the library.
07:10Wanda's name eventually populates the October 13 spot, followed by Agatha's on January 21st,
07:15but there are plenty of other blank ones above it on the card.
07:18It could be completely random, but they happen to line up with some pretty special days for
07:22some pretty important people.
07:23February 16th is the birthday of Elizabeth Olsen.
07:26Jack Kirby, who created Scarlet Witch for Stan Lee, also gets a birthday shout-out on
07:31the card, as he was born on August 28th.
07:34Next up, June 2nd could have a few different meanings.
07:36Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige was born on June 2nd, and Agnes mentions on WandaVision
07:41that it's the date of her anniversary.
07:43The only way Ralph would remember our anniversary is if there was a beer named June 2nd."
07:49December 28th, meanwhile, is Stan Lee's birthday, and has been dubbed as Marvel Day.
07:53The other dates are a little harder to pin down, but they may very well hold a significance
07:58we haven't uncovered yet.
07:59In order for Agatha and the teen to access the Witches' Road, they need a full coven.
08:03According to witch rules, there always have to be some nearby, and the first one they
08:07visit is Lillia Calderoo, a witch skilled in divination.
08:10It's not the first time your witch kin betrayed you, but you survive, in a way few do."
08:18The actress who portrays her, Patti LuPone, shared her main impressions of the character
08:22with Entertainment Weekly after doing some research, saying,
08:25"'She's hot.
08:26She's really hot.
08:27She's got a great body and hair.'"
08:28She's definitely a looker throughout her brief Marvel history, first appearing in 1973's
08:33Marvel premiere Number 12.
08:34Lillia is introduced to Doctor Strange in the issue, but is promptly killed by a living
08:38gargoyle.
08:39She's only had a handful of other appearances in the comics, so she's not exactly the most
08:43recognizable sorceress for Agatha all along to pull from.
08:46But Lillia does have a comics connection to the Book of Cagliostro, and seduces Doctor
08:51Strange to retrieve it from Mordo.
08:53In 2007's Mystic Arcana Scarlet Witch Number 1, Lillia says her family has been tasked
08:58with protecting the Book of Cagliostro.
09:00And it's also here that she meets Wanda as a child, and can already tell she's going
09:04to become a powerful witch one day.
09:05The Book of Cagliostro appears in the first Doctor Strange movie, where it's stolen by
09:09Kaecilius, so her inclusion could be yet another reference to the MCU's previous explorations
09:15of magic.
09:16Jennifer Cale
09:17Jennifer Cale, played by Sashia Zemeta, was one of the Marvel characters we wanted to
09:20see on Agatha all along.
09:21Her comics counterpart was introduced in 1972's Fear Number 11 by Steve Gerber and Rich Buckler.
09:27The story sees Jennifer and her brother Andy perform a conjuration spell, inadvertently
09:32summoning the Netherspawn.
09:33Not realizing they're now being hunted, Man-Thing enters the picture to protect them.
09:37By the end, they form a friendship with the swamp creature.
09:40Jennifer also ends up having adventures with Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, and X-Force as
09:44well.
09:45Daniel Drumm, while possessing Victoria Hand, kills her in New Avengers Number 31, but she
09:49resurrects herself some time later, with half of her face missing.
09:53Hollywood Elite spoke with Zemeta about what fans can expect out of Jennifer on the show,
09:57and she promised some big things, saying,
09:59Jennifer Cale.
10:00Her journey is about trusting other people, trusting other witches.
10:03Could that journey involve a similar death and resurrection, or Man-Thing showing up?
10:08Alice Wu Gulliver
10:09Alice Wu Gulliver is the third witch Agatha seeks out to join her coven.
10:11She also has a history in Marvel Comics, working for the Hong Kong police force, which is likely
10:16what she refers to when she mentions being an ex-cop.
10:19Alice's driving force for joining the coven is to find out what happened to her mother,
10:23Lorna Wu, of the rock band Lorna Wu and the Coral Shore.
10:26Rumor has it Lorna Wu was lost to the witch's road."
10:29Lorna is based off of August Wu from the comics.
10:31It's unclear why she received a name change, but August Wu of the Coral Shore is a powerful
10:36witch and magical guardian over Hong Kong.
10:38August is killed by a demonic entity, and when her daughter Alice becomes a cop, she
10:43tries to find her killer, even working alongside Scarlet Witch for a time.
10:46That motivation has been largely transferred to Agatha all along, only on the show, Lorna
10:51Wu went missing.
10:52Alice may just find the answers she's looking for as the season goes on.
10:56Rio Vidal warns Agatha that Salem Seven will come for her at sundown, which is a big reason
11:00why she's in such a hurry to assemble her coven and get to the witch's road.
11:04The Seven do appear at sundown as hooded figures.
11:06We don't really get a good look at them except for the burned face of one member, likely
11:10referencing the woman accused of witchcraft in the Salem Witch Trials.
11:14These may not be random bad guys.
11:15They're technically Agatha's grandchildren in the comics.
11:18Nicholas Scratch actually sends Salem Seven to retrieve Agatha after she starts taking
11:22care of Franklin Richards.
11:24Their presence further bolsters the idea that Scratch will appear at some point in Agatha
11:28all along.
11:29Agatha knows they're coming throughout Episode 2.
11:31She sees various animals, like a wolf, crow, and rat, prior to their proper introduction
11:36— a sure sign that their arrival is imminent.
11:38The Wraiths prove themselves formidable in their brief appearance, almost taking out
11:42the teen.
11:43But the witch's road has been established as incredibly treacherous, so the coven's
11:47worries are only just beginning.
11:49Deadpool says in Deadpool and Wolverine that,
11:51The Wizard of Oz did the multiverse best, and the MCU isn't done with the allusions
11:55to that classic work just yet.
11:57There's a whole idea of how the witches need to go down a special road, much like the Yellow
12:01Brick Road, and Agatha calls the teen the name of Dorothy's dog in the second episode.
12:05I'm Agatha Harkness.
12:06This is my familiar Toto.
12:08Not only does The Wizard of Oz deal with alternate realities, which are the cornerstone of the
12:12MCU's multiverse saga, but it famously features witches, making it natural for Agatha all
12:17along to call the 1939 classic to mind.
12:20Honestly, The Wizard of Oz is all over the MCU.
12:23Over the Rainbow plays at the end of Werewolf by Night.
12:25In Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Strange in America Chavez walked down a yellow
12:30brick road at one point, and the working title for the upcoming Vision Quest series was revealed
12:34to be none other than Tin Man.
12:36Deadpool might've been onto something.
12:38The Wizard of Oz truly did the multiverse best, so it's no wonder Marvel continually
12:42pays homage to it.
12:43At this rate, it wouldn't be surprising if someone eventually refers to Doctor Doom as
12:47the man behind the curtain in Avengers Secret Wars.
