00:00Burj Khalifa's construction work was going on, the whole structure was standing like this, now it was time to put a window panel on it.
00:09The engineers thought that there is no rocket science in installing a window panel, so they did not pay attention to it.
00:16But then what happened that no one had any idea.
00:20Due to the intense heat of Dubai and the window panels installed on the tallest building in the world, the temperature inside Burj Khalifa reached 100 degrees centigrade during the day.
00:33It was not possible for a person to enter the building at such a high temperature.
00:40This was the biggest problem that arose during the construction of Burj Khalifa, which put the entire construction team in trouble.
00:50Due to this problem, the work of Burj Khalifa's interior design had to be stopped.
00:55For 18 months, the construction work was on halt, but then something happened that woke up the dreams of management and engineers.
01:05Welcome back to ZimTV's videos.
01:08Viewers, Dubai's Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world.
01:13This building, which protrudes 2716 feet high clouds, cost $1.5 billion, i.e. Rs. 114 billion.
01:23Not just so much money, but this building is considered a great achievement in the history of engineering.
01:30How did these great engineers, architects, and workers go through the difficult stages, what difficulties did they have to face, and how was the solution to those difficulties found?
01:42You will learn all this in today's video.
01:47The first challenge in building Burj Khalifa was to be on construction time.
01:52Engineers were given only 6 years to build this building, in which they had to complete all this work.
02:00Of these 6 years, only 3 years were required to design the building.
02:05If they had spent 3 years designing, then it was not possible to make the physical structure of the building in the remaining 3 years.
02:12Therefore, the engineers decided to start the construction of Burj Khalifa without design.
02:18This is why the excavation work started in February 2004, but the design work continued.
02:26Challenge No. 2
02:27When it was time to lay the foundation of Burj Khalifa, another problem arose.
02:32Usually, the foundations of tall buildings are laid on large stones in the ground.
02:38But the place where Burj Khalifa was to be built, there were either sandstone or small weak stones below it.
02:45So the question was raised that will the tallest building in the world be built on the foundation of these weak stones?
02:53Will these weak stones really be able to lift so much weight?
02:56To deal with this challenge, a basic principle of science was used, and that was friction.
03:03Yes, the foundation of Burj Khalifa was built on 192 solid steel piles, which are buried 50 meters underground.
03:11The weight of the entire Burj Khalifa was not just 1 or 2, but it was to be equally distributed on the entire 192 steel piles.
03:20Challenge No. 3
03:21For the design of Burj Khalifa, the construction company Emaar contacted the top-level architecture firm in Chicago.
03:28This architecture firm had designed the structure of many tall buildings in the past.
03:33But in designing the structure of the tallest building in the world, they also lost their hands and feet.
03:39Their challenge was that they had to design a structure that weighed millions of tons of concrete and iron,
03:47whose floors were lit by natural light, and that building was also 160 floors.
03:52The firm worked day and night to find a solution to this unique problem.
03:57And that was the buttress structure, which was introduced to Burj Khalifa for the first time in the world.
04:03Challenge No. 4
04:05On the other hand, the construction team kept building floors one after the other, but as soon as they went a little higher, they had to face another difficulty.
04:13The difficulty was that the concrete mixture that they prepared and sent up, it dried up as soon as it went up.
04:20There was only one solution to this challenge, and that was the concrete suction system.
04:25That is, thick pipes were installed from the bottom of Burj Khalifa to the top.
04:30Through these pipes, the concrete had to reach the floors above.
04:34This was not a small concrete.
04:37The total weight of the concrete applied in Burj Khalifa is equal to the weight of 100,000 elephants.
04:43Therefore, to pump so much concrete, the world's three most powerful pumps were ordered, who did this work.
04:52Challenge No. 5
04:54Three years had passed since the construction work.
04:57140 floors of Burj Khalifa had been erected, and the building broke the world's highest building record on the 140th floor.
05:07But the cranes they had to take the material up had the ability to take the material only to the 120th floor.
05:17It wasn't just about cranes.
05:19The crane operators who handled the crane had refused to work at a higher altitude.
05:26For this, the HR firm hired different crane operators from all over the world and brought them to Dubai.
05:32These crane operators spoke different languages, but one thing was common in all of them, that is, they were not afraid of heights.
05:40At an altitude of 700 meters, this crane operator spent 12 hours a day on duty.
05:46It was famous that he slept in the cabin of the crane.
05:50Challenge No. 6
05:52Only two years were left in the launch of Burj Khalifa.
05:54All the floors of the building had been built, but one thing was not visible anywhere, and that was the glass panels.
06:02Yes, a total of 24,000 glass panels had to be installed on Burj Khalifa.
06:06When it was time to install the glass panels, the temperature inside the building reached up to 100 degrees centigrade due to the harsh heat and altitude of Dubai.
06:17By installing these glass panels, ten times more electricity was used to cool the building.
06:23Only 18 months passed in the solution of this problem, but finally, the famous engineer John Zerafa said that he had a solution to this problem.
06:34But that solution would be very expensive.
06:37John's proposal was accepted because there was no other option.
06:42John made a special type of glass that reflected the UV rays coming out of the sunlight.
06:50But the price of this one glass panel was $ 2,000 and there were to be 24,000 such panels.
06:56This amount amounted to a total of 3.6 billion.
06:59For this, a whole factory was built in which only these glass panels were manufactured.
07:05And in just four months, these aluminum glass panels were ready.
07:097.
07:11In the last year of construction, Burj Khalifa was ready to launch.
07:16All the work of gas, water and electricity had been done, but still something was incomplete.
07:22The ending of Burj Khalifa's top floor was incomplete.
07:25A solid steel pipe was to be installed on top of it, which was 136 meters long and weighed 350 tons.
07:34There was no crane in the world that lifted such a heavy steel and placed it on top of Burj Khalifa above the clouds.
07:43But it was necessary to do this at any cost because now it was time for Burj Khalifa to launch.
07:50Finally, the engineers decided that this 136-meter-long rod should be made inside Burj Khalifa.
07:58Therefore, this rod was taken up in small parts and reassembled on the top of Burj Khalifa.
08:068.
08:08Now Burj Khalifa was completely complete, but due to years of dust, soil and construction waste, the entire Burj Khalifa was filled with soil.
08:18The task was to polish it well from the outside, which could not be solved, but the workers were hung from the ropes and the total 24,000 window panels of Burj Khalifa were polished from the outside.
08:32This window cleaning work is still done with the help of workers.
08:36Now you will know a few facts about the world's tallest building, Burj Khalifa.
08:41In the construction of Burj Khalifa, a total of 12,000 workers worked at the same time.
08:47The height of Burj Khalifa is equal to three Eiffel Towers.
08:50There are a total of 24,000 glass panels in Burj Khalifa, the total weight of which is equal to the weight of 35 A380 aircraft.
08:59The world's tallest restaurant is located in Burj Khalifa.
09:03The elevators in Burj Khalifa are called the fastest walking lifts in the world.
09:09The terraces of Burj Khalifa are automatically closed to the public during strong winds because the wind can be as strong as a category 1 hurricane on the upper floors.
09:19Burj Khalifa's peak can also be seen from a distance of 100 km.
09:24The place where Burj Khalifa is present now used to be the military headquarters.
09:29Burj Khalifa is the only place where you can see the sunset twice a day.
09:35Once from the lower floors and the second time from the top floors.
