00:00Do you know what day of the week you are most likely to die from a heart attack?
00:11Take a guess.
00:12I'll give you a second.
00:15It's Monday.
00:16Care to guess what time?
00:20It is between 8 and 9 a.m.
00:24Do you know what else happens Monday at 8?
00:27That is the same day and time people get ready to go into jobs.
00:33They hate.
00:34Coincidence?
00:35I don't think so.
00:36Take a look at this chart.
00:41This is the lifespan of the average person.
00:46On average, we live about 80 years.
00:49If we're lucky, we start working at about 18 and we work, work, work and retire at about
00:5567.
00:56Now, what does this tell you?
01:00That for better or for worse, the majority of your life will be spent at work.
01:09Do not spend that time unhappy.
01:14Like my friend Jay.
01:16See Jay would always say, when I finish school, then I'll be happy.
01:23Jay finished school, but he wasn't happy.
01:27So then Jay said, when I get a job, then I'll be happy.
01:32Jay got a job, but he still wasn't happy.
01:36So Jay said, when I get married, settle down and have kids, then I'll be happy.
01:43Well, he got married, settled down, had two kids, but still wasn't happy.
01:49So then Jay said, okay, when the kids leave home and I retire, then I'll be happy.
01:56Well, the kids left home and he retired, but he still wasn't happy.
02:01So Jay started going to church and I asked Jay why he was going to church so much.
02:08And he said, because when I die, then I'll be happy.
02:18Jay's story, however sad, is not unique.
02:22I could have replaced Jay with Johnny or Bonnie.
02:26In fact, Jay's initials stand for just about everybody.
02:33Many of us are like Jay, but it is not our fault.
02:36We have been tricked to stay stuck in jobs that are literally making us sick and to be
02:43and then people.
02:45You know about the and then people, right?
02:49It's people who constantly say, and then I'll be happy.
02:54Ladies and gentlemen, we must go from living as and thens to becoming right nows.
03:02We have to be happy right now.
03:04How?
03:05We must either find a job we love or bring more love into our jobs.
03:11But it's time to step out of the rat race because the funny thing is, even if you win,
03:17make a load of money, hold up the trophy that everybody hails, you're still a furry rogue
03:23with a pointy nose and long tail.
03:27Wake up.
03:28Stop playing with your life.
03:30This ain't a video game.
03:32This ain't Mario Kart.
03:33This ain't Fortnite.
03:34There is no try again, but no option to redo this level when the game's over, game's over.
03:42But there is one cheat code to the human console, and that is to take control and to stop buying
03:48into the lies society has told, like how overworking is cool and being stressed out is a status symbol.
03:56Oh, and I almost forgot the biggest lie, keep a work life balance.
04:02Now on the surface, you may not see how crazy that sounds, but think about it, work life
04:08balance.
04:09Shouldn't it be the other way around?
04:13Shouldn't life come before work?
04:15Because when your life is better, your work is better, but don't take my opinion.
04:19Harvard professor Sean Acor recently discovered something fantastic, which he calls the happiness
04:25advantage.
04:27His studies prove that 75% of job success can be predicted by not how smart you are,
04:34not how talented you are, but how happy you are.
04:39His research is decisive.
04:41He says when you're happy, your intelligence rises, creativity rises, your productivity
04:46rises, and you know what else is funny?
04:50You also make more money.
04:54But here's the real kicker, you live longer too.
04:57I know, it sounds too good to be true, but yes, optimists actually live longer than pessimists,
05:04so you could stretch this graph a few extra years if this time here is filled with more
05:09joy and cheer.
05:11Let me be clear, do not take this message lightly, it is your duty to be happy for your
05:17own sake.
05:18I don't care if you're here at the end, it is never too late to trade in your deadlihood
05:23for a livelihood and refuse to suffer during the weekdays, ironic they call it that, because
05:30you're literally in a weekdays where you're constantly waiting for the weekend.
05:35See, I believe so many people die of heart attacks because they are involved in work
05:41that their hearts are just not in.
05:45I believe people have low vital signs because they are involved in work that is not vital
05:51to them.
05:53My friends, happiness is a choice, but anyone who says it's easy has lied.
06:00It ain't easy, but you have to try.
06:03The first step is to look inside and remember the quote that the Buddha wrote 2,000 years
06:08ago which I believe today for most people still applies.
06:15The problem is, you think you have time.
06:23Stop wasting your life.
