00:00We're about to speak with Matt who tells us his story as to why he's taking part in the Blue Lights Got Talent event happening this weekend.
00:07I've worked in the NHS for just over 10 years now.
00:10I think it's quite like an honour and a privilege to be able to help people and going home is like, there's nothing more rewarding than that.
00:19It all happened after my dad passed away just before Covid and he was still quite young, he was just 60.
00:27So that inspired me to be like, right, you need to start getting vocal lessons.
00:32I've been a heavy metal singer for a long time, but the sort of style that I wanted to do would require learning how to sing properly.
00:41So I thought it'd be quite fitting to do the Judas Priest song because it sort of marks me being able to actually sing.
00:49And then it's also symbolic of what gave me the strength to work during Covid and stuff like that.
00:54He passed away in intensive care because of pancreatitis.
00:58So I discovered a charity called Guts UK and they're, I think, one of the only charities that fund research into pancreatitis.
01:07I remember being in intensive care with him.
01:10He was always proud, like, still make the effort to come to my shows and support me.
01:14Probably be pretty nervous on the night, but I'm sure all the contestants will be.
