00:00My Outro For My 20th Birthday
00:30Hello and welcome to Latest TV News, I'm Sam Morton, a reporter for Sussex World and
00:37in this week's show we will be reflecting on Brighton's matches against Ipswich and
00:41Wolverhampton Wanderers before we look ahead to Sunday's match against Nottingham Forest.
00:46First here are the top stories from across East Sussex.
00:50A business owner has criticised advice on avoiding loading bay fines as unrealistic
00:54after his ticket was cancelled. Clark Maids of M&B Meat successfully appealed against
00:59two fines after his van was ticketed while parked on Loading Bay in London Road because
01:04it was unattended for around 6 minutes. The letter cancelling his ticket included advice
01:10from Brighton Hope City Council saying that staff should not have a conversation during
01:14deliveries or go to the toilet. The council introduced a red route in London Road in April
01:19banning vehicles from stopping unless they were using specified bays.
01:24An Eastbourne primary school requires improvement according to Ofsted inspectors. Bourne Primary
01:29School in Melbourne Road was given the rating after several visits in June. Inspectors found
01:34the school's overall effectiveness and quality of education requires improvement. However,
01:39the school was rated good in every other area including behaviour, personal development,
01:44leadership and management and early years provision.
01:48Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour left pubgoers stunned after he made an impromptu appearance
01:53at an open mic night at the Neptune pub in Hove on Monday evening. He joined his daughter
01:58Romani who was performing during the evening and the two joined together to play iconic
02:02Floyd hit Wish You Were Here on acoustic guitars. Dave later posted on Facebook that he very
02:07much enjoyed crashing his daughter's gig at Neptune in Hove and finishing tour rehearsals.
02:13Kindly of Brighton, a trailblazer in sustainable eco-friendly shopping has announced the opening
02:18of its second location in the city. Taking over the space formerly occupied by HISBE
02:24Supermarket, this new store reinforces Kindly's commitment to creating a greener, fairer way
02:29of grocery shopping. Since 2019, Kindly has been proudly serving the Brighton community
02:35and surrounding areas with a mission to reduce plastic pollution, support local suppliers
02:39and champion a more ethical food system. After five successful years, they said they are
02:44now excited to expand the reach and continue its work, making sustainable choices easier
02:49and more accessible for all. Finally, stunning artworks have appeared at
02:53the Old Bathing Pool site at Seaside Road in Litzendenance. They were commissioned as
02:57part of this year's Coastal Currents Arts Festival. With one more mural to come and
03:02new artwork appearing on BT boxes appearing, Coastal Currents has been leaving a trail
03:06of street art around the town. Coastal Currents director Tina Morris said at the Bathing Pool
03:11site, David Speed chose to reflect the visiting Peregrine Falcon on the road-facing side,
03:16giving the old electric box a real sense of self as the neon wings welcome you and wrap
03:21themselves around you as you turn on Seaside Road from the main road.
03:24Stay tuned for the Goldmouth Action Podcast.
03:41Welcome to another episode of the Goldmouth Action Podcast, where we take a look at all
03:51the latest goings on at Brighton, Hove Abbey and Crawley Town. I'm Matt Palt and as ever,
03:55I'm joined by Brighton writer Darren Howard, Crawley Town expert Mark Dunford, as well
03:59as Sam Morton, who covers both Abbey and the Reds. Brighton were held to a golden straw
04:03at home by newly promoted Ipswich in the Premier League on Saturday, but successfully advanced
04:07in the Carabao Cup in midweek. We'll pick over the bones of Abbey's 3-2 Carabao Cup
04:12third round victory against Gary O'Neill's Wolves at the Amex Stadium last night. Plus,
04:16we'll bring you all the latest from Crawley Town. You can read all the stories we're talking
04:20about with videos and pictures online at sussexworld.co.uk forward slash sport, and you can check out
04:25other great videos on shotstv.com and Freeview channel 262. You may also be watching on Latest
04:30TV. So thank you very much for tuning in. First, we will start with the Carabao Cup
04:35game and Sam, you were at the game last night. And how was it? And did Fabian Hazala's men
04:40deserve to progress to the next round?
04:41Yeah, it was a good game, actually. It was an entertaining one for the neutral. Brighton
04:46started really strongly. Carlos Bolaiva scored a belt up of a goal, really. It was the first
04:53goal for the club. And he put in such a brilliant performance against Ipswich. And the question
04:57was, could he follow that up with another good performance a few days later? And he
05:01absolutely did. And he was full of confidence. And you can tell from the way that he pressed
05:06high up the pitch, won the ball back really well, and then just unleashed a screamer into
05:11the bottom corner that gave the keeper no chance. So it's a really, really good goal
05:15and a nice way to celebrate as well. So he went off doing some backflips, bringing back
05:18memories of Le Roy as well for Brighton. We don't often see celebrations like that in
05:24English football these days. So that was really good to see. And Simon Odinga as well scored
05:29a really nice goal to double the lead for Brighton in the first half. And it was all
05:34very, very comfortable and looked like it's going to be a simple evening for them. But
05:38they did make life a bit difficult for themselves in the end, really. They conceded a goal right
05:43on the stroke of half-time through Guedes, who was a bit of a threat, actually, for Wolves
05:48in that first half. He did a couple of near-misses before he did find the net. And it wasn't
05:52the best they're defending from Brighton. And Hazard wasn't too pleased with that moment,
05:57really. He said they played really well for 44 minutes, but it's a goal they should never
06:00concede because it's another transitional moment. And a lazy transition reaction is
06:05something they can't accept. And it's against the identity of Brighton. And they have to
06:08learn from these moments quickly because they can't do this. And we made silly mistakes.
06:12So it was a key moment because that goal on the stroke of half-time gave Wolves a bit
06:16of confidence. And they came out the better team in the second half, really, and really
06:20did put Brighton's defence under a lot of pressure. But they held firm. And really,
06:25the key turning point was when Jack Hinshaw pulled out an incredible goal-line clearance.
06:30It looked like it was going to be an Adam Webster-owned goal. But Hinshaw really did
06:33come to the rescue. It was a brilliant piece of improvisation to preserve the lead for
06:39Brighton. And Hazard made some changes in that second half, brought on Danny Welbeck,
06:45Reverend Ferguson, Matt Swyfer came on, Kadioglu came on. And it was a Turkish international
06:50that got his first goal for the club to seal the win, really. Danny Welbeck had a shot
06:54that was saved after a brilliant bit of skill from Odingra to control the ball, bring it
06:59forward. Welbeck had the shot saved and then Kadioglu was there to put it into an empty
07:03net. And Jason Steele nearly cost Brighton once again with a terrible pass, I should
07:12say, that was intercepted and Wolves made it 3-2 in injury time. But thankfully, Brighton
07:16were able to hold on and seal the 3-2 win. Absolutely. And it was a much-changed line-up,
07:21wasn't it, Darren, from the draw against Ipswich. Who impressed and were there any
07:25players who perhaps didn't stake their claim for more football?
07:28Yeah, well, it was a good chance for some of the fringe players to really make their
07:33mark on the team and convince Herzele that they should be in contention for the Premier
07:40League matches. Just to follow up on what Sam said about Jason Steele, I think if there
07:45is any doubt who is probably the number one now, I'd say Bart Verbruggen. He's been playing
07:52in the Premier League this season and I think he is ahead of Steele, who has been very good.
07:59He's been an experienced goalkeeper, very consistent. He's been consistent over the
08:06years but he is, as Sam said, liable to these pass backs when they try and play out from
08:14the back. So, I think Verbruggen is definitely nailed on. I like Hinshelwood as well. Hinshelwood
08:19played again. I think he's been excellent so far this season, playing in a variety of
08:24positions, left-back, right-back and he can also obviously play in midfield. But I think
08:30the main one for me, Jacob Moda, he played quite well alongside Carlos Bolivar in the midfield.
08:38But I think Simon is ingra as well. I think he just showed again that he gives value for
08:45money. He's always capable of delivering that pass, producing these moments of magic and
08:50he's ruthless in front of goal when he gets the opportunity. I think there's a case for
08:55him to start ahead of Jankuba Minta, who maybe he was lauded in pre-season, looked absolutely
09:03electric in pre-season. Started very well against Everton,
09:07made that goal for Karim Matoma on the opening day of the season. But he's still a threat,
09:13but he's not quite delivering at the right time. He's not picking the right pass.
09:17He looks a little bit indecisive, doesn't he? I know he's just against
09:19them. He looks a little bit indecisive about what he's going to do. He's one of those players,
09:22I don't think he knows what he's going to do when he gets the ball, really. It seems a little bit
09:26un-Harry. Absolutely. I've seen some criticism of him on social media and it seems pretty harsh
09:37how some people are just quick to write off these players already. But he's a genuine talent. He's
09:43so good. He's so electric and a danger to the full-backs. But I think Ipswich played him quite
09:48well. Both the full-backs played well against Matoma and Minta for Ipswich last Saturday.
09:54And it's just having that little bit of guile, that little bit of skill to pick the right pass
09:59at the right time. And Matoma's got it. And as yet, I don't know if Minta, he's got to prove
10:06that he can deal with these tight defences. And I think at the moment, Odinga just looks that
10:11little bit more. He's going to give that extra bit of skill, that extra goal or that extra goal
10:16threat. So, yeah, I think Odinga has definitely staked his claim in that match last night.
10:22It's funny you should mention digging players out. I think it was after the Ipswich game where
10:26Bryan fans were slagging off Ruta and he's played one game. You're not giving players a chance to
10:30just give your head a wobble when you're doing stuff like that. There's no time to impress yet.
10:34Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely.
10:37Very strange. Sam, Nottingham Forest up next to the Amex. Both teams have had a decent start
10:42of the season. Forest arrive off the back of beating Liverpool, while Brighton remain unbeaten
10:46from their four matches so far. What can we expect from this early season, almost top of
10:51the table clash? Yeah, it's a really unusual situation, really, because I don't think you
10:56expect Nottingham Forest to have had the start of the season they've had. They've almost gone a
11:00little bit under the radar until they got that superb win over Liverpool. And you really kind
11:05of step up and notice they've not lost this season. They obviously had the opening day win,
11:11opening day draw, sorry, against Bournemouth. And they followed that up with a win against
11:15Southampton, and then drew against Wolves, and then they beat Liverpool. So it's been a really
11:20solid start to the season for them. Nuno Espirito Santo has really got them playing some decent
11:26stuff and to win at Anfield in the way they did. It's a bit like a snatch and grab, but it was a
11:31kind of a perfect performance, really, kind of tactically set up really well. And obviously,
11:36Ninks, that goal, that was a really good goal, actually, from Caleb Huntington-Doye.
11:39So he's one for Brighton to watch out for. But I think it should be a really good game. Obviously,
11:44Brighton have got that home advantage and will be looking to get the win and make amends for
11:48that goal they drew against Ipswich, which I'm sure they'll be disappointed about. And they'll
11:52be looking to make up for that with a win this Sunday. But if you look at the stats, they're
11:58very even in a lot of elements this season. Obviously, you mentioned that Brighton are sixth,
12:02just above Forreston seventh, but both on eight points. So it's just gone down on to goals scored,
12:09which is currently in favour of Brighton, who have scored six and Forreston have scored four.
12:12But apart from that, they've both conceded two goals. They've both had quite a number of shots
12:17this season. Brighton have had 44 shots, Forreston have had 42. And so it's, yeah, a good matchup,
12:24really, between two sides that are obviously full of confidence. And I'm looking forward to
12:28seeing how they get on. When you actually look to the previous meetings, they've both won 12
12:34and drawn eight from 32 games. So there's a lot of evenly matched elements to this game. So yeah,
12:40it should be a good one.
12:42Something's got to give, hasn't it, Sam? And in terms of players,
12:46Darren, how are they looking? Where is Walking Room? Any set to return or any updates?
12:52I expect Jal Pedro to come back for this one. He was rested again
12:57in the Carabao Cup against Wolves in midweek. He didn't play against Ipswich because he was,
13:02do you remember, he was on international duty, had that long flight back. And
13:05they said that he had a sort of slight knock. But I just think they didn't want to risk him
13:11so quickly. But I do expect him to come back against Nottingham Forest. I think he'll probably
13:18come in for Rutter, who started up front against Ipswich. I think Brian Gruder, the German 25
13:26million summer signing, haven't seen him yet. He hasn't featured at all. He's still a little way
13:31away. I think he's got an unspecified injury, they keep calling it. So they haven't divulged.
13:38I think he arrived with a knock and he's continuing his rehab. But I think the Forest
13:43game is going to come too soon for him. But he's one to keep an eye on. So I think he's going to be
13:49a very useful addition once he's sort of fit and firing. Great to see Evan Ferguson, as Sam
13:54mentioned. He got some minutes against Wolves in the Carabao Cup. It's his first start for
13:59six months or so, I think, since his lengthy foot injury that he sustained last season. So
14:05he adds another option. So alongside Pedro, Welbeck, Rutter, you've also got Ferguson who can
14:11come on as well. So I don't think he'll start against Forest, but I think he'll certainly be
14:16in the matchday squad. Matt Swiffer, he's back. He sustained an injury against Everton on the
14:22first game of the season. So he got some minutes last night. So he could be in contention for that
14:27midfield role. But I'll be surprised if he starts. I think Bolivar and Yassin Ayari will continue in
14:33the central midfield roles. James Milner, he's still out with a hamstring injury. He picked up
14:39against Arsenal. I think he's a couple of weeks away as yet. And the other one, left-back Pervis
14:45Estupinan, he featured against Wolves as well. So he could be making his first Premier League start
14:52this season in place of Jack Hinchliffe at left-back.
14:56But apart from that, Brighton haven't got many people out.
15:03Apart from that, they're good to go. I'll take a deep breath now.
15:08Excellent stuff. Thank you very much for that, chaps. We're going to take a quick break and when
15:12we return, we're going to talk all things Crawley Town. Crawley substitute Armando Quintana converted
15:18a second-half penalty to die. Stockport a fourth win in five league games in a 1-1 draw at the
15:23Broadfield Stadium on Saturday. Louis Barry put a cameo head on six minutes, but Turner kept his
15:28call from the spot as the Reds ended a run of two successive league-one defeats. Summed that
15:34Crawley performance up for us, please, Sam. It seemed like a positive result by all accounts.
15:39Yeah, it was. It was a really good performance, actually, and one that
15:42Crawley probably could have won on another day. I think obviously Stockport came into the game
15:47knowing that they could go to the top of the table with a win, but they started really well
15:52with Stockport. They scored a cracking goal for Louis Barry, who quite clearly is not a league-one
15:56player. He's obviously on loan from Aston Villa and he could do a job in the Premier League,
16:02to be honest. He's a real quality player. It was a lovely goal to open the scoring.
16:07I don't think there's much Crawley could have done about that. Maybe a little bit.
16:10They may be giving a little bit too much space, but I think it was just a quality goal.
16:14You just have to credit the Stockport player there, really. But Crawley did respond really
16:20well, actually, and they dominated the ball for large parts of the game. But the turning point
16:25really came when Armando Cueterno came on. It was around the 60th minute, but Scott Lindsay
16:31actually revealed he shouldn't take credit for the substitute because he said it was a free kick
16:35that Crawley rewarded. His coaching staff said, bring Armando on because he's obviously a good
16:40free kick taker. The free kick went straight into the wall, came back to him and he kind of went on
16:45a nice run down the right flank and he was brought down to the box. It was literally a minute after
16:49he came on and he'd won a penalty for his team. And then he stepped up himself to slot it home.
16:54So it was a really good impact from him and it was a really deserved goal for Crawley.
17:01It was unfortunate he didn't score obviously earlier in the game and give himself even more
17:04time to find that winner, but they still had plenty of time. He's about 25 minutes left of
17:08the game to find that winner. They couldn't quite create that chance to get the goal, but they were
17:12the team that were looking the most likely. They've done all the attacking and Scott Lindsay said
17:16after the game how proud he was of his team really. They went toe-to-toe with a really quality side
17:21and looked like the most likely winners. He just said he's a little bit disappointed about
17:25the lack of chances and the lack of that final ball really. They couldn't quite find that ball
17:30in those key moments. But yeah, a decent point really and a really good performance. I think
17:35there's lots to be positive about.
18:06But yeah, we said it at the beginning of the season. Every time a job comes up,
18:12League One, League Two, lower half of the championship, Scott Lindsay's name is going
18:16to be connected. And all it takes is a couple of people to put bets on and the betting companies
18:21have got Scott Lindsay as favourite. This one is slightly different because he's three-to-one
18:25favourite and Stephen Schumacher is the next one. We're 12-to-one, so there's quite a big gap between
18:30him and the next one kind of thing. So either a load of people are putting on bets or somebody
18:35knows something that we don't. But he is going to be connected with it. I mean, it's an attractive
18:40job. The stadium, they've got apparently a good squad, although they haven't had a great start
18:44to the season. But you speak to Lindsay every time and his love for Crawley Town is clear. He
18:51absolutely loves the club and his focus is going to be on the club. I mean, if MK Don's approach
18:57him, who knows what happens? But it's a step down for him. He's obviously got a great project here
19:03at Crawley. But a chance to link up with Liam Kelly again, Lawrence Maguire. I can imagine
19:10it's a temptation, especially with that stadium as well. But yeah, no, it's an interesting one.
19:16But I think, again, it's just early betting odds, just people putting on money. Crawley fans, don't
19:21panic just yet, is my message to you. And we will bring you all the latest developments on
19:26sussexworld.co.uk forward slash 4, won't we Mark? Absolutely. Going back to Saturday, Bradley
19:32Ibrahim made his Reds debut. As you all well know, the former Arsenal midfielder has joined
19:36Crawley on a season-long loan from German club Hertha Berlin. How did he get on, Sam, and how
19:40did Scott Lindsay view his performance? Yeah, I thought he looked really good. He came on in the
19:4566th minute in place of Jay Williams, who, surprise, surprise, had been booked. And Lindsay
19:51said that was a key reason why he had to make the change, really, because he actually admitted he
19:57was worried Williams was going to get himself sent off. He said that and he wanted to bring
20:02him off to avoid that situation. Brought on Ibrahim and he looked really good, actually,
20:07really composed and calm on the ball. And Lindsay said post-match that he was impressed as well.
20:12He looked assured, put in a couple of strong tackles, looked calm, good on the ball, made some
20:16good passes. And he's really pleased with that. And he was pleased with the impact of all the
20:20substitutes, really, as also you mentioned. Armando came on and was the difference maker in the game.
20:26But yeah, I think he really did look good, Ibrahim, actually, and some signs that he could
20:31make a name for himself at Crawley and look forward to seeing more from him, really. I
20:35think he hopefully will have a start soon, as you can see, what he can do from minute one.
20:39Yeah, early signs are positive. I think he's a good little loan signing for Crawley, I think.
20:45Finally, as ever, we'll go into score prediction, starting with Brighton against Forest on Sunday.
20:49Deron, how do you see this one going? I've got a feeling that this one might be closer than people
20:53might make it out to be.
20:55I agree. Yeah, I think it will be. I think Forest are a threat going forward. Hudson-Odoi,
20:59Elanga, they've got some great attacking players. I'm going to go for an entertaining 2-2
21:03this weekend.
21:05Sam, how do you see this one going?
21:08I'm going to go 2-1 Brighton. They'll get the win they need after that draw at Sipswich here. 2-1.
21:14And Mark, do you see Brighton maintaining their unbeaten record?
21:18I do, but I think I agree with Deron. I think it's going to be a draw. I don't think it's
21:21going to be as exciting as Deron thinks, but I'm going to go for a 1-1.
21:25Well, we'll keep our eyes peeled for that one. And finally,
21:27Wrexham against Crawley in League One on Saturday. Mark, how do you see that one panning out?
21:33I'm going to go with my heart on this one. I'm going to go Crawley to pick up a point.
21:37It's going to be a 1-1 draw.
21:39Oh, you were going to say a win there, weren't you? I could feel the optimism flowing through
21:44you. Sam, how do you think this one is going to go?
21:481-1. 1-1. Go optimistic. It would be a great result.
21:52Deron, we need some proper optimism here.
21:55I'm going to do one better. I'm going to go 1-0 to Crawley,
21:58and then Scott Lindsay will move to MK Dons for that next week.
22:05He's going to go out on a high.
22:09Well, that'd be some weekend for Crawley fans if that happens, but
22:13I don't know how they view that. Oh, excuse me. We'll have to wait and see.
22:18Thank you very much for this week, chaps. Brilliant as ever. You can catch up with
