00:00The former world champion Phillip Holliday is the man in charge of the action.
00:18Officially we are in catch way, 6 three minute rounds, both right handers Nathan Watson in
00:25the green and black verticals, Hayes Heria in the white and the blue.
00:37It will be interesting to see how both boys start off, obviously Watson coming in 2 kilos
00:43overweight, he holds that advantage obviously, he looks a much bigger fighter in there already,
00:48you can already see that structure of his is a lot thicker than Hayes, but like I said
00:55is it an advantage or disadvantage, has he trained enough for this fight, we will soon
00:59find out.
01:00Nathan is a great boxer, plenty of potential, but he is out of mixed form like you said
01:10of late Andy, he has only won 2 of his past 5, so he will be looking to get back on the
01:15horse here tonight for sure.
01:18They are having a real good look at each other at the moment.
01:23Best fight for Hayes in 2024, so potentially just having a look, he has a really good opponent
01:31in front of him as well, definitely a step up in class for him, so this boy is paying
01:35him the respect.
01:36I say this with the ultimate respect, you get into the ring with Nathan Watson who has
01:42seemingly got the lot, but there is something missing there most suggest, just something
01:50a little missing in what we have seen so far from Nathan Watson.
01:53A lot of people would say it is discipline, Andy, the first fight is to make the weight,
02:00if you are not making the weight there is something going wrong in camp, for every fighter
02:07it is the biggest disrespect to be honest, you have got to make the weight, because you
02:11have got to make an even fight, he didn't do that, so there is obviously something going
02:15wrong in camp there, so he has got to get back to being a little bit more professional
02:20potentially.
02:23Changing levels there for Hayes.
02:27Hayes is in a good run of form, obviously he is only at that one loss, and he has only
02:34lost to our main eventor tonight Dan Hill, so there is no shame in that, obviously Dan
02:38Hill is a legitimate really good fighter.
02:41So he has got some credibility as well as Hayes Heria.
02:45Brandon East and Michael Ravetti, the two fighters that Hayes Heria has most recently
02:52bested.
02:53Almost a swatting right hand from Webber there.
03:00You can see he has got the experience on his side, you can see he is very calculated, very
03:04smart fighter, very good boxer, he unsuccessfully challenged for the Australian middleweight
03:11title last night, last up, but he has been an Australian champion before in the lighter
03:16weight.
03:17As we go to the corners, both boys get their instructions.
03:33Very calculated first round, you see some of those replays from that first round, decent
03:46left hook, I think he just shut his eyes and threw it, and it landed though, so it caught
03:50the attention of the judges no doubt.
03:54Very calculated start from both boys, paying ultimate respect to each other, Hayes in his
04:01toughest fight for sure.
04:04It's a difficult one Nate, of course you want to pay respect to your opponent, but over
04:09just six rounds, paying too much respect to your opponent puts you in a really awkward
04:16situation early in the fight.
04:18Definitely, and we have spoken about this so much in the past, you know these four and
04:21six rounders, if you drop a round or two you are really behind the eight ball, so yeah
04:25you have got to start fast and you have got to finish fast, so let's hope the boys pick
04:29it up this round.
04:30Good jabs there from Watson.
04:31Our opening fight sponsored by Avia Homes, the great people at Avia, check them out online,
04:45as I always say support those that support us, to continue to bring you what we do, every
04:54couple of weeks right here on 7 Plus.
04:59It's better from Nathan Watson, when he's throwing the jab now he's moving forward.
05:04First round he was just sort of snapping it out and not sort of following it up with his
05:08feet, but now all of a sudden his feet are behind his punches.
05:21Yeah, certainly agree, I mean he's, like I said he's not scared to test himself, obviously
05:43it's only his sixth fight, jumping a really seasoned fighter, not only seasoned in the
05:49pros, but he had a massive amateur background, did Nathan Watson, so he's chucked himself
05:54in the deep end, and that's what I like about this kid, he's never shy of a challenge, that's
05:58for sure.
06:06Now the first tonight as well for Hayes, because it's his first fight over a six round duration,
06:10so he's only ever fought over the four and five round durations in the past, so first
06:16six rounder, but I've been told he's a big worker in the gym, so I don't think that'll
06:21be a problem for him, last in the full six rounds, and that's better, that's better there
06:36from Hayes, changing levels, that's what he's gonna do, he's gonna give him something different
06:41to look at, he tapped him to the head and then tapped him to the body there, dropping
06:45the guard of Nathan Watson, he's gonna do a little bit more of that I think.
06:57Good counter there from Watson, yeah whilst keeping it straight.
07:09Boys come banging together right there, as we move to the end of round number two, six
07:17is the total, big swing and a miss there from Hayes, wanted to put an exclamation mark on
07:25that final second of the second round, it was a swing and a miss though, another real
07:33even round, it's just gonna be real hard for the judges to score that one, because both
07:38boys had their moments at different times, as we see some replays from that second round.
07:43It was better work from Hayes, like I said he tapped to the body, then went to the head
07:50and he scored with that right hand over the top, you can see they're the ones the judges
07:54remember those big shots.
08:04First round duration this fight, 6-5-3, sponsored by Abia Homes, I'm sure this is just about
08:15to heat up this fight, it's better work from Hayes, investing in that body again, he's
08:33starting to find a home for those rips now, which is a really good tactic for him, because
08:41if you've come in underdone, the first place he's gonna hurt is that body, and you can
08:45see just landing once again with that body shot, in close to Hayes here, oh and another
08:51one, a cracking right rip, is that where Hayes should be going?
08:54Well it's a hard one Andy, because in a six round duration, it's more of a sprint like
09:01we said, it's not one of the longer fights, so usually you invest in the body a lot more
09:05during the longer fights, because it catches up with your opponents, but right now we're
09:09in sort of foreign territory for Nathan Watson, it looks like he's coming in a bit underdone,
09:14so yeah potentially investing in the body in a shorter fight is not a bad thing either.
09:23Both boys just clash heads there in close, raging together like two bulls there, as the
09:29referee just splits them apart, clubbing type punches aren't they really?
09:34Certainly yeah, not really, and open fists at times, and that's why they're making that
09:40echo around the stadium here, because they're not closing their fists, both boys notably
09:49not big punches, obviously Hayes only with the one knockout out of his four wins, and
09:54Nathan Watson only three out of his ten, so they're not massive punches both boys,
10:01and that's probably the reason why.
10:08This is better from Hayes, just getting back on the jab, that's where he's safest, right
10:14hand just missing over the top there from Watson, and that's better from Hayes once
10:18again, trying to bring up that uppercut and that left hook behind it, but he got caught
10:21on the counter by Watson, good right hand from Hayes, evenly matched up the boys, yeah
10:29both boys having a real dig at the moment.
10:39Crazy sport in the fact you don't need the two best in the world to put on a show, not
10:45at all, you just need two guys that are well matched that want to have a swing, certainly
10:49and Ace Boxing do that the best, obviously the Premier Boxing Series have been showing
10:53that the whole year, it's not about names, it's about two evenly matched fighters and
10:57that's going to put on the best show for the crowd.
11:03Big right hand in close there from Watson lands as Hayes come in, you can see the experience
11:11in Nathan Watson, you can see he's grappling with the other hand away from the referee's
11:14vision there, so he can't work, you can see very in close, look he's got it just completely
11:20locked underneath that elbow of his, and he got away with it.
11:44Obviously some replays of that third round and it was a much better round for both boys,
11:49they both had really good moments, both boys investing in the body, both scoring to the
11:54body and a couple of power shots really landing for both boys, the heat is definitely turning
12:00up here.
12:16Okay we move into the second part of the fight, round four to six, in fairness to both guys
12:25we actually anticipated this one would go the journey, I'm not saying they can't punch
12:32or they don't have power, but both are very durable, very resilient young men, hard to
12:38stop in side sits, yeah certainly, and both, yeah, notable boxers more than punchers, so
12:52actually wouldn't want to be scoring.
12:54It is a tough one, it is a tough one because he isn't those massive shots like you do usually
12:58see in normal fights, there was a good couple of good shots there from Nathan Watson in
13:03close just as I say that, and a good body shot response there from Hayes Uria, that's
13:11been his go-to tonight, I think when he's invested in the body he's been scoring and
13:15scoring well.
13:16Good exchange once again, both boys having their moments now, ripped to the body again
13:34but the receipt came over the top from Nathan Watson, both boys you can see starting to
13:39feel the pinch now, a little bit more reserved now, both boys they're just starting to grab
13:49a little bit more and that usually happens when fatigue starts to set in.
14:09Nathan Watson's waiting for Hayes to finish punching, then he's reacting over the top
14:24and you can see he's caught him so many times, usually your defence is most of the time down
14:31just after you've finished throwing a punch unless you're silky slick and you can get
14:35back your defence very quickly but obviously you know kids with only Hayes' experience
14:41that comes with time so Nathan Watson's picked out something and picked it really well because
14:46he's not getting his guard back as quick as he should and he's getting caught on the counter
14:50every time just like that, a big right hand landing from Nathan Watson.
14:59And another one from Watson, he's starting to find those right hands because that left
15:04guard of Hayes' is starting to drop and drop very fast, well spotted Nathan.
15:09Round four in the books.
15:34Round four was a goody Andy, a lot more power punches coming from both fighters but most
15:46notably the man in the red corner Nathan Watson really starting to load up and really starting
15:53to find shots just like that, a big right hand over the top, that left guard noticeably
15:59kept dropping throughout this round and I think it's just maybe fatigue from Hayes.
16:04When you've got an experienced boy in front of you like Nathan Watson, he'll expose it
16:09every time.
16:17What are the corners saying or what would you anticipate they're saying to their fighters?
16:22I think Nathan Watson is just going to do more of that, I think those power shots and
16:26finding that right hand, I think he's a lot more comfortable throwing that right hand,
16:30I think he's going to do more of that.
16:35Hayes on the other hand, I think he's got to stay off his jab, when he was jabbing on
16:39the first round and kept his distance, that's when he looked most comfortable.
16:51Nathan's certainly got that ring dominance now, he's dominating the middle of the ring
16:56and it means Hayes is effectively boxing from the back foot.
17:03And Hayes' defence, it's an unfair fight Andy, I mean they agreed on a weight, he's coming
17:07two kilos over, that's massive you know and anyone that's done a weight cut understands
17:12the last two or one kilo is what hurts the most, so Nathan Watson hasn't had to go through
17:18that pain, whereas Hayes did and that makes it an unfair fight, I mean I love Nathan Watson,
17:24he's a great boxer, he's a great athlete, but this time he missed the mark and that's
17:28potentially the difference tonight.
17:30Nathan, at the top level we know what happens, there's a huge monetary figure that a boxer
17:38is penalised, but obviously we're not in Las Vegas, we're not fighting for world titles
17:44or billions of dollars, what happens on a night like this?
17:48And that's exactly why it's a big punishment, you know financial or whatever, because it's
17:53a big crime in boxing, to miss weight is the ultimate disrespect, it's so hard, you're
17:59not only putting your record on the line, you're putting your life in jeopardy, we're
18:04in a contact sport here, we're not playing checkers here, so it's very dangerous, but
18:11I mean you've seen what's happened in the past with the likes of Ryan Garcia missing
18:16weight and stuff like that and what such an advantage it creates, and here on a domestic
18:21level, he's somewhat doing the same thing here tonight.
18:25Tried for a right cross there did young Hayes, Webber's got the left hand working really
18:34well, doing a countering position.
18:38Yeah, he's doing that well Nathan Watson, he's waiting until he finishes punching and
18:42then coming straight over the top and finding him every time.
18:45Hayes doing better work to the body as well, there's a good little exchange there from
18:49Hayes as well.
18:55Oh right hand, as he come in Nathan Watson just caught him with a big right hand.
19:09Going to the final 15 seconds of round 5, you'll see them open up again, both boys trading
19:16plenty of leather in this round.
19:19There's a swing and a miss there from Hayes.
19:28Another good round for both boys, plenty of leather thrown and plenty of action for the
19:33audience.
19:45Sixth and final round coming up.
19:49Sixth and final round.
20:01Johnny Basterbaugh in the corner there with Nathan Watson from the United Fight Team.
20:09And there's Warren Coutts from the Matrix Boxing Club.
20:13Two experienced corners.
20:19The boys are going to touch them up, this is the sixth and final round here in our opener
20:31live on 7 across the nation.
20:35You're watching the Premier Boxing Series.
20:39We did it last Saturday night in Perth, what a show that was too.
20:44Young Alex Winwood missed his fifth fight, daring to dream.
20:49Fell a little short in his world title challenge.
20:54Didn't lose any fans, won a heap of fans, what a performance.
21:00Right hand over the top, once again scoring for Nathan Watson.
21:04Hayes Uria started this round really fast with those rapid shots, but those bigger shots
21:08are coming from the man in the red corner, Nathan Watson.
21:11Much easier to score for the judges as well, those power shots were rocking the head back.
21:21A bit of clash of heads there, both boys, a bit of claret coming out of the nose of
21:24Nathan Watson.
21:30And a right hand over the top and an uppercut to follow for Nathan Watson.
21:34In fact there were a few head clashes earlier and I dismissed them.
21:38In fact there were a few head clashes earlier and I dismissed them because
21:43neither fighter showed any wear or tear, they weren't in pain.
21:47But gee, there has been a lot over the six rounds, unusually for two right handers.
21:54Clenching a lot Andy, that's why. Put it down to fatigue or something, I don't know.
22:00They're very close to each other and early on, from round 2, 3, 4, they were clenching a lot.
22:05Both boys trying to stake their final claim.
22:08A minute 20 to go, those power punches are still coming from the man in the red corner, Nathan Watson.
22:15Oh, good shot in close, that uppercut landing for Hayes this time.
22:22Once again, both boys clench and a big right hand from Nathan Watson.
22:28The most defining punch of the fight so far for sure.
22:31The most defining punch of the fight so far for sure.
22:34Yeah, agreed Nate, the crowd starts buying into this one with just under a minute remaining.
22:40And you can see Andy straight away what I was saying in the opener, that two kilos plays a massive difference.
22:46All of a sudden Nathan Watson, not a notable puncher, becomes a little bit of a puncher.
22:51Because he hasn't had to strip himself right down to that weight.
22:56And it is a drag.
22:59It is very much a drag.
23:01Inside 30 seconds remaining.
23:06They'll throw here, both boys when they hear this final 10 seconds go off.
23:12As both boys invest in the body and uppercuts are really good there from Nathan Watson once again.
23:18And there's one from Hayes.
23:19As both boys will open up one last exchange.
23:24It's been willing this contest from rounds 1 to 6.
23:28We've got a goodie in our opener.
23:31I enjoyed it.
23:33I hope you did too wherever you may be watching live around Australia on 7 Plus.
23:40After the break we'll find out officially who's got this.
23:44We're going to allow the judges to tally up their scores and we will be back.
23:56Welcome back to the premier boxing series.
23:59The officials still going through their calculations.
24:07Nathan Watson pretty comfortable, pretty confident.
24:18Numbers are in, let's go to James.
24:20Numbers are in, let's go to James.
24:27Alright ladies and gentlemen we'll get set to make this one official.
