National security investigators in Taiwan are questioning the boss of the company whose name appeared on the pagers that exploded in Lebanon. The company, Gold Apollo, has denied making them, saying a Hungary-based company made them under a branding license agreement.

00:00The boss of the Taiwanese pager maker that denies making the devices that exploded in
00:05Lebanon is now being questioned by police and prosecutors, as questions remain over
00:10just where the devices came from.
00:12Hezbollah reportedly purchased the pagers from Gold Apollo, which is based in New Taipei
00:18City.
00:19But the company says they were made by a firm in Hungary, which has a license to use its
00:24brand.
00:25That company, BAC Consulting, appears to have just one employee and an empty office.
00:31Hungarian officials say they've confirmed it was an intermediary and not manufacturing
00:36or operating in Hungary.
00:39And reporting in the New York Times this morning says the firm is in fact a front for Israeli
00:43intelligence.
00:45So many questions remain, not least who made the pagers that killed at least 12 people
00:51and injured nearly 3,000 when they detonated.
00:56Since Gold Apollo's name came into this, police have been investigating the company in relation
01:01to national security.
01:03Now the founder, Xu Qingquang, is to be questioned here at a Taipei district prosecutor's office.
