Efforts are underway to recover historical records about Malaysia that are currently not in the nation's possession, but the allocated budget for this endeavor is insufficient, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the two-day History and National Unity 2024 Convention on Thursday (Sept 19), Ahmad Zahid acknowledged that while the cost of acquiring these historical items may be high, it is essential to bring them back to Malaysia to preserve them as historical evidence.

00:00Three, two, one.
00:13Actually, some efforts have been made to bring back historical artifacts from abroad.
00:24The name is too small.
00:27What was needed by Mr. Bukhara was an organization based on the value of historical artifacts that are still left.
00:38They can be kept by their owners, either in a former colonizer's office or in a museum or in other places that may be held by individuals.
00:55The price may be high.
00:57This is what is needed so that these materials can be brought back to Malaysia to be used as evidence.
01:08Indeed, this is a very urgent need.
01:11Not only historical artifacts, but also many documents that I think are still available abroad.
01:28Do you think these documents need to be bought back from them?
01:31They need to be evaluated, especially in terms of price and their ability to export those materials from their storage facilities.
01:45This is a must.
01:47Whatever the price, I think efforts must be made.
01:50If not, it will be fully financed by the government.
01:53Maybe the private sector, especially GLIC or GLC, can pay for some of the costs involved.
02:02What is the estimate of the cost?
02:05I haven't received the budget yet, but I think the Minister of Community will bring this matter to the Cabinet.
02:11Is the government ready to spend to bring back the artifacts?
02:14We will look into the needs of the government.
02:20The artifacts were stolen during the colonization?
02:23Not only were they stolen, but some of them were confiscated.
02:28Some of them were brought back as difficult documents.
02:34Some of them were brought back as private or official documents.
