The solubility product constant, Ksp, is the equilibrium constant for a solid substance dissolving in an aqueous solution. It represents the level at which a solute dissolves in solution. The more soluble a substance is, the higher the Ksp value it has.

00:00Previously, when there was a precipitate, the precipitate molecules and its ions formed
00:05an equilibrium reaction.
00:08Like sodium chloride becomes sodium ion and chloride ion.
00:19Now this reaction has an equilibrium constant, K is equal to the concentration of Na+, multiplied
00:25by the concentration of Cl-, divided by the concentration of NaCl.
00:33For solid substances, the molar concentration value is constant.
00:39So K multiplied by the concentration of NaCl also has a constant value.
00:46This value is known as the solubility product constant, Ksp.
00:52For sodium chloride, the Ksp value is the concentration of Na+, multiplied by the concentration
00:58of Cl-, so Ksp can be defined as the product of the concentrations of ions in a saturated
01:06solution, raised to the power of each reaction coefficient.
01:16As an illustration, determine the Ksp value of the following substances.
01:23OK in case A, the ion equilibrium in the lead II iodide solution is as seen on the screen.
01:38The Ksp value is the concentration of Pb2+, multiplied by the concentration of I- to the
01:44power of 2, because the coefficient of Pb2+, is 1, and the coefficient of I- is 2.
01:52In case B, this is the equilibrium reaction of potassium selenate solution.
02:06The Ksp value is the concentration of K+, to the power of 2, multiplied by the concentration
02:12of selenate ions, because the coefficient of K+, is 2, and the coefficient of selenate
02:18ions is 1.
02:21In case C, this is the equilibrium reaction of calcium phosphate.
02:35The Ksp value is the concentration of calcium ions to the power of 3, multiplied by the
02:42concentration of phosphate ions to the power of 2, because the coefficient of calcium ions
02:48is 3, and the coefficient of phosphate ions is 2.
02:53Yup, hopefully this tutorial can provide an overview of what the solubility product constant
02:59is, and don't forget to follow this channel.
