00:00with Bonte here was a trap game and I'm just disappointed that in our defense in particular
00:06other than Fred Warner because we went up against Sam Darnold last year and we should have had those
00:11reads down we should have not been playing so much man coverage given they were running a lot
00:16of like meshes and in corner routes so that's all I gotta say guys. Hey I got the bat phone or the
00:22bat line to Bonte that's our guy I don't think Bonte would say a trap game in week two.
00:30Without your best player I'm gonna go out on the limb I'm gonna confirm but a trap how could that
00:34have been a trap game it's week two and you're without your your Michael Jordan. Because maybe
00:39you're looking ahead to the the division game with the Rams and maybe you're looking at Minnesota and
00:46saying Sam Darnold stinks. Well that's on the coaches then. And they were missing Jordan Addison.
00:50Sam Darnold does not stink. Okay now he doesn't. Oh you know I've always said could he do what
00:56party was doing. He's a modern-day Baker Mayfield right now he's finding a home
01:01and if Minnesota's gonna play D like that man. According to Alden Garcia Dibbs is the one who
01:12scheduled who had a schedule loss. Remember they were coming off a short week too let's not forget
01:16about that. They're coming off a short week. These dudes get paid millions to play. Now they get paid
01:22millions. They travel on airplane hotels. So they get trained. They get. Miss me this ain't the 70s
01:27where they're on the charter plane and they're cramped. These dudes are getting massages and
01:32whatever on the plane. I'm sorry if a regular Joe like me I don't want to hit back to back. So they
01:38get. Back in the 70s they were playing three games in a row. 95 games a week. Miss me.
01:45Miss me with. Nobody's ever played five games in a week. No you're not coming.
01:49What did you mean? You cannot have a trap game until after the first month of the season.
01:55I'm telling to Bonte. Don't tell it to me. I don't believe he said it. I'm sticking up for my guy.
02:02Trap game. Ain't no trap game when you're on high alert without your best player. To me.
02:10Okay. Say it to his face. No. Say it to Bonte's face. I'm gonna text him now.
02:15Let's go to Austin in the city. Hey Austin what's going on? Austin.
02:23I want to say this. I think this is a game for our quarterback. I want to say this.
02:31Y'all look at CMC. We already know how good he is. He came to the 49ers.
02:36We didn't know what our quarterback was capable of. Mr. Relevant. So with Debo being out
02:43and then these injuries. We should already know that we will be next to these injury
02:48kiddo. So yeah I'm looking for some four touchdowns from uh our quarterback because
02:52I'm tired of hearing these slanders about him being uh Jimmy G. He may be a better athletic
02:59more athletic version of Jimmy G maybe. But I'm looking forward to see what he can do and make it
03:04really really make his name for himself without CMC and Debo on the field. And one more thing
03:10yep in the 49er um looking like the warrior getting ready to break out with these injuries
03:16which I think he did next one out like clay. I mean well you just paid him. That's the rat on
03:22the table. We talked about all off season and I love me some Debo. I just don't like when you
03:27try to get too cute and have him back there. You are right Stoddy. He lined up back there but still
03:33I mean this is and Evan's right. The game log is on his side. He don't have three games and missed
03:39the 14. But the bottom line is nobody even against Green Bay. He left in a playoff game
03:46right when it started and then in the Super Bowl he was doing the same Bobby Brady thing.
03:50But man this calf thing is not idea but it's part of the Debo experience. How about that
03:56Stoddy? Meet me halfway. Nope. Debo Samuel has not missed the playoff game. He left into the
04:06first quarter against the Packers. 2019. Three games started, three games finished. Three games
04:14started in 21. What about last year? Go to last year because he didn't finish the Green Bay game.
04:19He started. But did he finish? He has not missed the playoff game in four years. I know what you're
04:25doing. He hasn't. You're good man. He's played 12 playoff games. He hasn't missed the playoff
04:31game. That's why I'm with Evan. I don't think he's injury prone but he's got to get nicked up
04:38and you know what? We keep playing 17 games and we move it to 18 games. It's going to be just like
04:45basketball. You're just going to want a guy to play 14 out of the 18 games. Well I'll tell you
04:48what. Last year they lost three games without him. He left the Cleveland game. They lost that and
04:52that's when the onslaught came of losing and we talked about his threat. How you use him as a pawn
04:59on the chessboard and he puts stress on you because he's so dynamic and Kyle can use him so
05:04many different ways. That got me more nervous now that on top of McCaffrey, your boy's out.
05:11Man. Yeah, I wouldn't get nervous. I just don't want people to take this injury stuff out on us.
05:18Call us and talk to us. We're here for you. I see my girl Lori Matthews. She's taking it out on me
05:26and she's lashing out without lashing out. Look, who's more hurt? The Rams or the Niners?
05:34Thank you. I'm going to go you. I don't give a rat. Exactly. So quit crying about injuries.
05:40What if I said equal in regards to star power? Oh, they're missing their two best receivers?
05:46Cup in Nakua and and here's something you would do and they don't have Aaron Donald anymore.
05:55Hey, Grandy, how you doing, buddy? Yeah, look at him. Tell the people why you're
05:59breaking him up. He can't hear us yet. So I'll wait till he settles in. Pat and Foster City.
06:06Pat said I'm crying. Pat's got my you are whining. Pat and Foster City. He has my perspective. Give
06:14it to us, Pat. Yeah, yeah, I do. I do. But Google got me fired up with that music. I'll tell you.
06:25Yes, yes. But yeah, I guess real quick, you know who needs to step up? It's not the one million
06:33dollar quarterback or the three million dollar running back. I agree with Matt. It's it's the
06:38thirty million dollar receiver that has to step up. And so does Williams, the thirty million
06:42dollar tackle. And so does Kittle, the twenty five million dollar tight end. They're making
06:47the big bucks. They're going to have to do it this week. That's what I think. But but the main
06:51reason I was calling regarding Purdy, you know, I couldn't agree more with Matt in terms of the
06:57Niner perspective on this and Purdy's perspective, too, because if they stay along and got to the
07:02Super Bowl, maybe they lost in a close game in the Super Bowl and Purdy had a good year like last
07:07year or close to it. You know how much you attribute that success to the Niners overall team
07:15and how much do you kind of look back and say, you know, what was his college career like? We
07:19only have two years, two and a half years to evaluate this guy. You know, no question. He's
07:24great. Really good. But I mean, is he a 60 million dollar guy? You got to look at the whole data
07:29package. And if you look at his college career, it was pretty good, but not on a major college
07:34level. That's why he was the last pick in the draft. Played a couple of years. He's not got
07:38the strongest arm in the league. That's for sure. He's not the fastest guy in the league. So he
07:43makes good decisions. But now we're really going to see the decision making. And I think it works
07:48in both players player and the organization's favor, because at the end of the year, you know,
07:53I think Purdy wants to feel like he's been treated fairly. And if he kind of lays an egg the next
07:57couple of weeks and then kind of comes back when these stars come back, that paints a little
08:02different picture for the salary going forward. And I just think it's I think it's a really good
08:07opportunity to kind of see where he stands. So I definitely agree with that, Matt.
08:11Yeah. Thanks for the call, Pat.
08:13So much. You have to stay in the moment, but you can't ignore it.
08:17You have to look at the silver lining if your guys are banged up.
08:21If he plays well, then it's a silver lining.
08:23I think if he stinks, it's a silver lining,
08:27because if he stinks and you begin to have questions about him.
08:33Well, then maybe you don't want to pay him $55 million.
08:36Like that's this to me is a is is perfect. Maybe maybe he shines. Maybe he
08:47is the reason that they win the next two games. Well, then guess what?
08:50I feel a lot better about Brock Purdy moving forward.
08:54And I just I'm not going to go overboard with my.
08:57Oh, I am. Yeah, I'm absolutely got it.
09:00These next two games are the biggest regular season games that he's quarterbacked, I think.
09:05I just I just do a Super Bowl. I said regular season.
09:08OK, gotcha. Gotcha.
09:09So but yeah, there's like no well, there's no hiding right now.
09:15He's got to play well.
09:17And I hate I can hear McCaffrey's dad say, you just want to talk basketball.
09:22But Draymond Green's headed to the Hall of Fame, right?
09:26I guess. OK, if you took
09:27Steph Curry and Wiggins off of that team, wouldn't wouldn't wouldn't Draymond
09:32probably look more ineffective than he would have?
09:35Yes. Yes.
09:36And that but what have you got to do?
09:38I'm not saying give scholarships, but we got to be prepared to do that with Brock.
09:42What about when Steph plays without guys? How does he look like?
09:48Like he is good enough to hold up in any situation.
09:53So you're you're putting that standard towards Brock.
09:56If he's your franchise quarterback.
09:57Yeah, I I don't I don't think that's unfair to 49er fans think that's unfair.
10:02I'm not saying the next two games are going to make or break Brock Purdy.
10:06Just don't forget the good.
10:07But the next two games matter.
10:11And that I agree with.
10:13But they don't supersede a two years of of of almost
10:17betting 400 if we're talking baseball 380.
10:20Why not?
10:22Why not?
10:23It's really not reality.
10:25It is going to be his reality if he gets paid.
10:30It will be.
10:31I think we all can acknowledge that, right?
10:33They're going to lose probably a weapon.
10:37And, you know, why not find out right now what he looks like?
10:41Yeah, I'm going to say it 4-1-5.
10:43These are legacy games for Purdy.
10:45Yes, Evan.
10:47Well, the whole point is replacing weapons.
10:51OK, so you the entire premise of the conversation is that things will be different
10:57beyond this season for Brock.
10:59I think so.
11:00Do you?
11:00Not necessarily.
11:02OK, just because there's different names of different players doesn't mean you can't find
11:05similar production.
11:06No, I know.
11:07Again, we watch the team last night of the Eagles that paid its quarterback and actually
11:12got an additional weapon for their quarterback.
11:15And he didn't look as good when his number one receiver wasn't on the field.
11:18So just because you have to pay someone doesn't mean that all of a sudden they're playing
11:24with JV players.
11:26I'm just it seems to me like there's an understanding that if you end up paying Brock
11:32Purdy big money, that it's going to cost you in other areas.
11:36And if it's and the 49ers, it sounds like and we were we were saying this a year ago,
11:42they may have to make a decision between IU and between Debo Samuel.
11:46But also, maybe they want to.
11:48I don't need to speak for him.
11:49Stani was they'll find replacements.
11:51Now, maybe they won't be sufficient.
11:53Exactly.
11:55He's not going to just be by himself.
11:57Well, that's the other thing.
11:58I mean, it's OK.
11:58You don't have Debo and you don't have McCaffrey, but you still have Mason.
12:02You still have Kittle.
12:03You still have IU.
12:05And you know what?
12:05You still got maybe your best receiver so far this year, Jawan Jennings.
12:09So like like I'm not fighting you.
12:12I get it.
12:13These are they are so important, but I can't believe I'm the one that's trying to what
12:20do they call it?
12:21Stani not do too much and overreact on.
12:25I really got to ask you or anybody out there because you're not the only one saying it.
12:29Don't be too quick to throw away what he's done when the team was a whole two, like just
12:36because they were healthy.
12:37You can't just say, well, hey, the team, we're going to lose some people.
12:40So we got to judge you on these two games or four games or five games if.
12:46I'm not saying whether it's right or wrong, but if you guys think that Brock Purdy, if
12:52he doesn't play well the next two weeks, there isn't going to be a firestorm of criticism
12:58and a firestorm of conversation about who he is and what he is and how good he is with
13:05certain players and how good he isn't without certain players.
13:08Like, I think I think that's naive.
13:11I just do.
13:12And it might not be fair, but I think that's the way it is.
13:16Brock Purdy can.
13:17Well, this is a Super Bowl for him.
13:19Then study the way you're talking.
13:21It's regular season games.
13:22I think these are two big regular until they got they play two more.
13:27Whatever the record is and whoever they're playing that week, that's the biggest game.
13:31I'm assuming they'll be healthy in a few weeks.
13:32Let me ask you this.
13:33How good do you think Brock Purdy is?
13:35I think he's pretty good, but I'm looking forward to seeing him play the next two weeks.
13:39I agree.
13:40But I still forget the injuries, Donny.
13:42I still needed to see more.
13:44And I still do.
13:45And last week I gave him a C minus.
13:48That didn't help.
13:49But I'm not looking at it like, hey, how you pass this test is how you play when you're
13:55down two studs.
13:57That's where I think that's being a little too over the top.
13:59You don't think these games are any more important than any other games for Purdy?
14:03Just as much as that Minnesota game was.
14:06I think it's more.
14:07I just do.
14:09888-957-9570.
14:12Let's go to Rob is in Dublin.
14:16What's up, Rob?
14:16How you doing, man?
14:20Hello.
14:20Hey, Rob.
14:21How you doing?
14:21Good.
14:22Hey, good.
14:23I'm doing well.
14:24Good afternoon, fellas.
14:25I called originally about another topic, but I'll get to that at the very end.
14:29Hey, real quick.
14:30Hey, I think Brock's going to be just fine.
14:34Shanahan loves this guy.
14:36The team loves this guy.
14:37They rally around him.
14:39He doesn't give you the oh-no throws.
14:41I haven't had an oh-no throw all last season and into this season still yet.
14:46There's a few questionable, but they're not the oh-throws like Jimmy.
14:49So I think we're good there.
14:51We'll be just fine.
14:52Now, my issue was with this last game, we have a vanilla, to me, a vanilla offense that's
15:00very predictable.
15:01Once Conley comes in the game, you know it's a run.
15:04Once Debo goes in the backfield, you know it's a run.
15:07Once Juwan gets on the field, you know it's a pass.
15:10It's too predictable.
15:11We're too easy to see what's happening.
15:14And my last point is this.
15:16If we get that, what was that one call that they just blatantly missed when they body
15:21slammed Purdy in the backfield after he threw the ball and then was leased to the punt and
15:25then was leased to the 100-yarder.
15:27Come on.
15:28Momentum is a big thing in the NFL, and we lost it all right there in that game.
15:32So I'll take comments off the air, fellas.
15:34You have a beautiful, blessed day, and I love listening to y'all.
15:36Y'all are great.
15:37Thanks, Rob.
15:38Thanks, man.
15:38Appreciate the call.
15:40And I'll disagree with Rob, Stani.
15:41I thought there were some, well, any time someone intercepts you, you know,
15:46that's a no-no throw.
15:47There were a couple just high passes.
15:49Like, and I don't know if that's because-
15:51Your football focus only had one other ball that was interceptable.
15:54I'm going to read that tonight.
15:55I'm serious.
15:55Did they say that?
15:56Yeah, they did.
15:57See, that's wrong.
15:57I'll go find the story.
15:58Yeah, but that's wrong.
15:59During the break.
16:00But anyway, that's his reality.
16:01But I'm not fighting you on your premise of these games are huge.
16:07They are.
16:07For Brock.
16:08I'm just not.
16:09But Stani, they're not going.
16:11Let's just say they went, they were two of his worst games.
16:14That is not going to, when we get to money time, supersede what he's done.
16:20That's my strong report.
16:21Well, you're discounting what he does after.
16:23Well, I'm assuming he has two bad games and then he's great again.
16:26Just like the three last year where he was okay.
16:28Remember, he was throwing interceptions in Cleveland and Miami.
16:31So was that okay?
16:32Concussion against the Vikings.
16:33Okay, I'm not saying he did, but he didn't come out the game.
16:35He played.
16:36And then Cincinnati, he threw the interception.
16:39You know, it's just, this is part of being an NFL quarterback.
16:42Yeah, that's right.
16:43It's a pressure cooker.
16:44It's a pressure cooker.
16:46And Brock Purdy, there's a segment of fans that doubt him.
16:50And that I don't doubt.
16:51Okay.
16:52I mean, like, he's a nice guy.
16:53He's a hell of a quarterback.
16:54But I wonder, does the organization, are they whispering of, now we get to see what he really is?
17:01To that call this point, he says they love him.
17:04And there's nothing to that, Goo.
17:06It's a completely new and different way to evaluate Brock Purdy.
17:11It just is.
17:12And if he comes through with flying colors, then maybe you find out what you thought you
17:18knew already.
17:19And that he is the real deal.
17:21And moving forward, as long as we put competent players around him, he's going to be a hell
17:26of a quarterback.
