BMW has unveiled its latest generation 5 Series, revealing a modern, dynamic design that melds traditional BMW aesthetics with cutting-edge advancements. A major highlight of this launch is the introduction of the first ever fully electric variant in the lineup, the BMW i5.
In a landmark move, the German automaker introduced the BMW i5 - the first fully electric variant of the 5 Series. Propelled by two electric motors, the i5 showcases BMW's ambition to lead the charge towards sustainable mobility.
This fully electric model comes with a striking design unique to the i5, enhancing its sporty character. It also comes with model-specific chassis technology such as Adaptive M Suspension Professional and near-actuator wheel slip limitation for optimized traction and superior performance. A stroke-dependent damping mechanism on both axles provides added comfort, while rear-axle air suspension ensures optimum vehicle height under different load conditions.

00:08It is the sedan that sets the standard for everything that BMW does.
00:13BMW believes that buyers should get whichever powertrain they like,
00:17so it's available in a gas engine, a plug-in electric hybrid, or pure electric.
00:22There are two versions of the all-electric.
00:25There's one that's less powerful and one that's more powerful.
00:28We're driving the M60i, which is the more powerful,
00:31593 horsepower and a 0-60 second time of 3.3 seconds.
00:37It has a new kidney-shaped grille.
00:39The gas engines, of course, need that grille.
00:41The electric versions don't, but they decided to keep it on the i5, and it's illuminated.
00:47For 2024, buyers can choose from 14 different paint colors.
00:51Another thing that buyers can choose is leather or vegan leather.
00:55BMW calls it veganza. That's leatherette in BMW-speak.
01:00It's a more sustainable material.
01:02You can't really tell the difference between leatherette and leather.
01:05BMW buyers will love this.
01:08There are some signalers on the outside and on the inside that this is the brand-new 5-Series.
01:13On the outside, you'll see a 5 embossed in the pillar,
01:17and then also in the door frame when you open either of the front or rear doors.
01:22On the inside, crystal is the idea.
01:25And we'll see not only crystal controls,
01:27but this really beautiful crystal-cut bar that spans the entire cabin.
01:32The crystal is actually made by a very well-known crystal maker,
01:37but we can't say who it is.
01:39BMW was able to take these crystal panels and actually embed controls in them.
01:44Here we have the air vent opening, and our rear and front defroster are here.
01:50On the passenger side, there is a slider to control the airflow.
01:56And over on the driver's side is a crystal panel where you have the headlight controls.
02:02You can turn the headlights on or off.
02:04The idea of crystal and luxury is very clear, but the idea of performance is very clear too.
02:09And next to the crystal, we have really beautiful carbon fiber trim.
02:14It's something that we've seen in performance cars,
02:17and it plays a role in the BMW 5 Series.
02:21The BMW 5 Series for the gas version starts at just under $60,000,
02:25so a very approachable price for a luxury car.
02:29When you start to add power, you start to add to the price tag.
02:33The price of the car we're driving, the i5, has a sticker price that starts at about $84,000,
02:39but with all the additions and options, ours comes in at $97,000.
02:44The 5 Series is designed to appeal to a number of customers,
02:47from the auto enthusiast to the customer who's looking for the latest, greatest,
02:52most innovative thing when it comes to electric cars,
02:55but really also the customer who is looking for that reward or to live that BMW lifestyle.
